Great job from France ! I own a 2002 996 Targa since January. This car is clearly the good deal. And one thing concerning the headlights : be aware that all the « disliked » Porsches are those that see them value increase with years...a specialist Porsche told me to not sell it... 996 Targa + 205 GTI 1.9 (full stock, low miles) = my pleasure
I've loved Porsche always...poster on wall doing o levels mid 80s...then buying a turbo within two years of finishing uni...6 since then...have always hated the 996 but you're now making me a nostalgic appreciator... never saw that coming... still think I will stick with my dream ride... personalised 9ff...but thank u sir!
"Listen to people who have owned them." So true. I went with a 997 for the simple complaint about the 996 seats, which I heard dozens of times. Since my commute was 155 miles 2x per week, that was a deal breaker. I got a 2008 C2 with 80k miles for $30K. Never regretted it for a moment.
Good vid, and good advice as you mentioned the strategy that I used my self when I buy a car, especially from a dealership. I recently brought I cayman 987, and that was the first time I brought a car when I loved it and just wanted to buy it regardless of what ever discount. That is what happens when you buy a Porsche I guess. Luckily I did the test drive on my own so car sales man did not see my initial pleasure of driving and after test drive did compose my self and managed a reasonable discount. Basically the Porsche brand evokes so much emotion than other premium brands that you need to control them when making a deal
I can't fault your logic as we're in sync. I've owned various VWs, but the pull of the 911 is strong. Gravitated to a 996.1 and it's in the garage now!
The VW Golf GTi - "a particularly lovely car"... could almost hear your teeth gritting! Definitely a step up to the Porsche and a step well taken. Another great episode - getting better with every view!!
Hi J - enjoying this and your other vids from blighty. Info in this buyer’s guide is very useful and helps me to reconcile these risks and issues with my own additional concerns (should I really buy a 20+ year old 996 and keep on my North London driveway). Thanks again G
Thank you so much! Yes, I think February some time. Depends on money to be honest but I should have enough by then! Can’t wait to do it actually. Should be one of the best Carreras around after that.
Good stuff thanks Jay. You are so lucky being in USA and having some much choice ( and cheap petrol). Intending to purchase mine in Australia and they cost a lot more.. wondering how these go with typical driving such as higher driveway curbs and speed humps, turning circle in Carpark’s - any issues cheers.
Hi Phil! You have to be a bit careful with speed humps and kerbs because they are quite low down but the ride is pretty supple so it’s no worse than a ‘normal’ car really. Same with turning circle: the car is quite small and so no problems there. HTH!
The theory of high milage cars being "safe" is not true, European car sites (mobile.de and autscout24.com) are full go high milage cars with replacement engines done at high miles.......
@@sonnicman I answered incorrectly, sorry. It was Porsche of Mobile, Alabama. If you want really excellent service, ask for Brandon Catchot. Really professional guy.
So long winded have no patience for this shite… half way through and still nothing about what To check on a 996 … nobody is financing a 996 it is a 20 year old car! It’s a cash buyer or you shouldn’t be buying it
3:27 only cash buyer here. Nothing worse than having payments on anything. Learned the hard way when I was younger.
yup on 2 Porsche myself...I own this one...love that feeling!
I love this channel, can’t wait to own a 996 one day

what dealer did you use? Thx. Awesome video btw, I've subscribed and watched a few.
I used Porsche of Mobile Alabama to buy the car and I continue to use Speedsport Tuning in Danbury, CT to work on the car! Thanks a lot!

@@JAYREAD tough to keep a level head on such a passionate purchase but it can be done! And you explain it so well in this video.
I still feel the same, one year after buying my car! I love it! Thanks a lot for the kind words. Really appreciate that.

Thank you. Do it!

Jay what do you think is a good price for a 2003 automatic with 100k miles in todays market with no ims done

Hola!
Each to their own obviously, but I wouldn't condone buying a 20 yr old car on finance.
Own it or wait.
Why not? Nothing wrong with finance if you can afford the interest.
Ironically I sold my mk7 GTI too and bought my 996
Great minds!
What State was this car/dealership in?
CT

What’s the capital of Burkina Faso?
