I love how passionate and excited you are about this game and this is absolutely the BEST walkthrough and review of Not Alone I've come across so far! Just purchased the game yesterday! Thanks so much for putting this together!
The Artifact is in fact the inverse of the River. With the River you take two turns to play only one card (so you 'lost' one turn), but you almost ensure that you won't get caught; with the Artifact you take two turns to play two cards (so no turn is lost) and you almost ensure at least one will work. The Artifact is more an endgame card, high risk high rewards!
One to one works just fine. Just use the expert settings given in the rules. All games (6 at this point) ends almost totally tied up. The whole game evolves or dissolves into mindgame of bluff and guess. Easily became one of my favourite games to play with my gf.
This has fast become my favourite small box game. And it plays super great 3 to 7! (Haven't tried 2 yet.) I bring it with me everywhere I go. :) The alternate Artefact promo card handed out at Essen is much more interesting and actually gets picked up by players. ;) It reads: "Copy the power of a Place card from your discard pile." I recommend playing with this rule instead.
Great review, thanks. Just got a copy this weekend. We played a five player game and everyone had a great time. It came down to the wire with both the Creature and the Hunted within one turn of victory. In the end, the Hunted narrowly escaped the planet with their lives while the Creature wailed in despair. KHAAAAAAAAAN! It's a good game with an unusual game play that is new to a lot of people.
the artifact is the weakest spot, which also means it is mostly safe to go there. i think that's a good thing it's just a different 10 location, which makes the monster life harder.
There is a discrepancy between your setup and the setup in the rulebook. When placing the Rescue and Assimilation counters on the figure that corresponds to the player count, does that player count include the Creature player or not? You have included the Creature player in your setup but the rulebook does not appear to include the Creature as a player when setting up. Have a look at the example setup in the rulebook and you will see what I mean.
Interesting, my understanding is that it includes the creature player because the game plays up to 7 people and the numbers on the assimilation/rescue board go from 2 up to 7 (not 6 which is what you'd expect if you weren't supposed to include the creature player in for this).
I have finally found someone who actually knows how to review a board game. Thank you for this great review!!
Thanks! glad you enjoyed the review :)

No problem, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did :)

Loooove the table of contents!
It's interesting to think that most of the one vs many games tend to be the group chasing the monster and not the other way around.
Really?!! It's the first one vs. many game I've bought, then the most such games are some players against one?🤔

JonGetsGames That certainly makes perfect sense and I agree that your setup must be correct. I can only assume there is an error in the rulebook.
Seems like an alone review to me.
Is Not Alone or Escape from the Aliens in Outer Space: Ultimate Edition a better game? Also awesome review. Keep them coming.
stuart shannon I haven’t played Escape from the Aliens yet so I can’t compare unfortunately.
