- Here's an example of a 3D printed 7-segment digit as a single piece. Compatible with 5mm LEDs.
In this video I show it used in the application of a 12-hour clock that adjusts brightness with ambient light. At the end, there's a short clip of the digit (and other backlit displays) being used in an arcade game I made for my wife and I.
QUICK TIP: the LEDs used in this video are of the clear type. Before installing them into the digit, I sanded (120 grit) the lens of each LED to create a fogged/frosted effect that softens the light output.
EQUIPMENT SEEN IN THIS VIDEO:
- Arduino Mega with screw terminal breakout (NANO more preferable)
- Arduino UNO (digit demonstration segment of the video)
- PCA9685 PWM board (for LED dimming)
- DS3231 RTC module (time keeping)
- LM2596 DC-DC voltage regulator (5VDC LED power)
- LEDs (green, 5mm, 12VDC rated)
The 7-segment modules reminds me of a recent IKEA clock tear down by @FranLab
Hey. I just watched that video and yeah, I can see the similarities. I definitely like that clock more without the dotted cover/filter.
Hi, Good job! Are the .stl files public?
Hey thanks! I don't have the .stl files posted anywhere at the moment. Similar to my other designs, I'm continuing to tweak the dimensions so I haven't exactly "finished" them yet.
