The Churchlands SHS Wind Orchestra 1 has achieved considerable success since its establishment in 1972. It has performed in interstate and international festivals with distinction including performances in North America, Asia and Europe. The most recent tour was in 2012, when the ensemble performed to great acclaim in the official Dawn Service at the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France.

Australian Military Band performances date back to the reading of the Governor's Commission at Sydney Cove on the 7th of February 1788. Much of the music at official, social and religious occasions in the new colony was performed by Australian military bands. The Australian Army Band Perth upholds this tradition.
