    Just bought a single grain from Loch Lomond, 100% malted barley, Great drum for 18€ a bottle.

    Thanks for making this very informative and helpful video. I wish it was made sooner. I bought this Girvan 11 year 54% ABV single grain from Dramfool aged in an Ex Bourbon barrel. I find it very unpleasant, harsh and it makes me think of nail polish. I may try it chilled as I find it almost a drain pour. I’ll target older Single grains next time.

      Ahhh sorry dude!! You nailed it with the essence of nail polish. Even some 15+ can be a bit rough still, but it’s definitely a good baseline, especially if it seems like a good, active cask. Good luck on your hunt! 🥃🥃🥃

    Single grain can still be 100% barley, but distilled in a column still. Circumstance's first whisky is done that way but 100% barley. Love your list of whiskies though. And I'm definitely on board the grain train.

      It’s exceptional, isn’t it. I’m gutted mines nearly gone.

    Interesting video, enjoyed that 👍🏻 Out of interest, have you tried the North British 30 yo that's currently available from MoM? Your enthusiasm for that Girvan is catchy!

    Two distilleries I noticed were missing: Invergordon (I have a 48-year-old from Thompson Bros.) and Cameronbridge (I have two, one of which is a 25-year-old). (I'm not including Garnheath, although I do have a 41-tear-old, because it closed so long ago.) I did buy the Whisky Baron Girvan on your recommendation, so thanks for that!

    • @itsgoodjuice
      @itsgoodjuice  Год назад +1

      I don’t have any Invergorden, but I do have a Cadenheads 29yo Cameronbridge which is absolutely 10/10 (which I completely forgot I had when filming!).
      Some amazing age statements there… and let me guess… not THAT expensive? I bet they are all stunning. I really hope your enjoyed the Girvan, and you don’t now think my taste is whisky is awful! 😂
      Cheers!! 🥃🥃

    Happy New Year mate. Glad you are feeling better. Another fantastic video exploring the outer realms of whisky. Single Grain can be awesome but a bit hit or miss for me. I guess a bit like si gle malt!?!? One to think on!

      @itsgoodjuice  Год назад

      Aye just about! Agreed it can be a bit hit or miss, but of recent I feel there’s been a lot more hits than misses. Need to smash that Dram Mor Girvan… Drams soon. 🥃🥃

    Thank you so much for this video! I've been curious about single grains but have yet to try one. However I do have an unopened 30 yr North British that I bought a while back. Perhaps I'll try some of your recommendations for the younger ones first and then give the older one a try.

    Well it looks like my whisky wish list just got a bit bigger! I must say single grain is an area I have neglected to explore as of yet.

      Honestly, as a “genre” (if that’s the right word? 😂) it’s rapidly becoming one of my favourites. There’s so much incredible liquid out there for such reasonable prices… especially if age statements are your thing. Lemme know what you get! Cheers!! 🥃🥃

      @@anestiszamanopoulos5158 that’s your opinion there, brother. Of course you are welcome to it, but there are an infinite number of incredible grain whiskies (like the ones in the video) which have just as much, if not more flavour and finish than their single male cousins! I’d wager you just haven’t found the right one yet. Understandable, as until now they have been harder to find. Cheers! 🥃

    • @itsgoodjuice
      @itsgoodjuice  Год назад

      @@anestiszamanopoulos5158 I'm afraid we are going to have to disagree there! Flavours, and a persons perception of them, are wholly subjective. If you find them flavourless etc... that doesn't me I or others do. As I said in the video, I love single grain whisky. It's cheap and it tastes good... what's not to like! I see almost no single-grain whisky marketed. I don't think the market as a whole is receptive to the concept vs single malt. I would definitely be keen to see these studies though, if you could link me to some of them?

    • @itsgoodjuice
      @itsgoodjuice  Год назад +1

      @@anestiszamanopoulos5158 I mean, I tried... and I can't find anything. Seeing as you said there was so much of it, I figured you could point me in the direction of something meaningful... but then again, if it's paid... then it's nonsense, and to be ignored.
      With all due respect, you haven't shared any knowledge about it's production. All you have stated thus far is that you think it's a flavourless marketing gimmick based on mostly paid research you are unable to produce. There is no reason to fear grain whisky!! Sure... some of it is shit, usually the stuff that bulks out blends... but like that 27yo brandy... with a bit of time and attention, it can be exceptional. Don't let paid, biased nonsense tell you otherwise. As you distill yourself... give it a go!
