I have one of these at work and absolutely love it. If you need to rack mount something, but don't need lots of drive bays, it's really the only thing on the market.
Love the video, I was looking at this case for an ESXi 8 deployment. Settled for an asrock x570d4u matx in a thermaltake divider and really happy with it at the moment. When I have space for a mini rack, the Silverstone will be on my shopping list.

Like the reviews of all types of cases.. These server type cases are expensive.. but have great features and quality.
I almost purchased the olde case you mentioned but didn't want to get back into server cabinets.
Love server content and projects. Was a big fan of esxi and tinkering in my 42ru cabinet.
Unfortunately I had to down scale such things due to space in an apparent.
Look forward to seeing more conent if you do end up covering it.
Thanks for the overview. This case looks pretty dope. For my setup, I’m using a Primochill Wetbench for the motherboard tray and expansion slots, and attaching that to a rack shelf on rails.
For disks, I wish I had access to two RM316. Instead I’m using two rack shelves, each housing three cheap cages that support a 120mm fan and five 3.5” disks.
I’ve owned the older brother, the RM42-502 for over a year now. It has a backup gaming setup with an EVGA 2080 Super. Runs a custom watercooled setup. With a SFX PSU I fitted a dual 80mm rad with push pull noctua 80mm fans and a very thick 240 up front. It’s in my rack. Been thinking about the RM44 to re-house my more powerful gaming system.

Great review mate. Just brought a few of these, in the process of rack mounting my development boxes and networking gear to tidy up the office. Going to put a custom loop in as going for a silent Pc. Hoping the one day Linus will sell his 4u rack design.
tbh I find this kind of video interesting, I am looking to build a small home lab to add to my setup at some point for running VMs and a nas system. so it's providing me with more ideas and inspiration to add to the setup thank you.

Watching this after ordereing one yesterday, for a media station build , getting shipped to morocco (turned more expensive, arround 600us, unfortunately because it is hard to get hand on 4U chassis for computers here).. Looking forward to watching your build
This case rocks, helped solve so many issues in my home office. In RM44 case one is my main dev/gaming pc with a custom cooling loop, so it’s super quiet. In the another RM44 case I have my dev/build server with a 360 AIO. Put both of these cases in a 12u rack which fits under the desk, added a network switch, patch panel, kvm and a 1u drawer for my laptop. Super easy case to build in, lots of space for custom cooling loop as well. Probably an underrated way to build pc’s but has solved my cabling nightmare and pc’s are now easier to maintain too. Win win win :)

@@fwzmhmd amd 7950x , 2070, used ek waterbloock, pump res and 360 radiator. Replaced all fans with bequiet to keep it wisper quiet.
At work we've built a couple systems with supermicro 4U rack chassis and used cablemod 90 degree adapters to be able to fit a 4090 inside. Even though it only has one small intake fan, it works allright, since most 4090 coolers are way overbuilt. Airflow only becomes and issue when two 4090s are mounted next to each other.

Silverstone just released a even crazier rack mount case: the RM51. It's 5U, which means it can fit all the high end CPU air cooler and all the 4090s you'd want. It has 2x 180mm fans installed on the front, and you can sandwich them into a 360mm radiator with a provided mounting adapter. There are 1x 120mm and 2x 80mm fan mounting holes at the back, and 8 pcie slot covers just like this one. It's already available in China where I live.

Had a Silverstone console layout case for a while running a delidded 7700k and gtx 1070 sli. Pretty crazy little setup lol. Quite similar to this.

Sooo nice😊. You really don’t need the HDD cases for a render server but a lot of airflow.
With those 90 and 180 degree adapters for the powercable it might be possible to use a 40 series gpu. this would be very interesting. Also there is a noctua 4u cpu cooler, which should be enough for a gaming build.
More server videos please! Hopefully vendors would see that there's a market for this and make cheaper rack mountable cases.

silverwater is my local store also i was looking at moving my main pc into a rack mount case but the lack of cable management i already have a rm400 case for my plex server and dealing with the cables are a pain especially with almost 100tb in it i am glad the ryde POI can keep up with my nbn (hfc) usage with ABB

Remountable handles? Smart! Would like to see a test how the attachment handles mildly frequent touring to events or lan parties (if those are still a thing). Say, whether the threads hold or whether the metal around ends up bending and bulging.

There are 16 pin right angle cables for Lovelace GPUs. Already have my 4080 installed in a 4u server chassis which I use as a HTPC.

Glad to see Aussie prices for a change, but hot damn $400 is insane, I'm trying to find something around $150 AUD but it's a nightmare to find anything reasonably price especially in a 4RU size. If you do some more budget content, it'd be great!
Been recently thinking of a DIY project of an under-desk drawer type PC where I take a cheap case and mount it on some drawer rails beneath the table top. Wondering if something ilke this would be easier to work with but it might be a tad bigger than what I need.

There now is the RM52, which is larger but can do dual 360 radiators. Which would be great should I get some accelerators.
Sadly there is zero RUclips videos that show builds in it. So I am left watching the RM51 and RM44 builds that do exists.
I have a 4u rack for RX 580 and 7800 X3D. I hope a new GPU will fit....

My problem with this case (and the RM51) is it's a bit wider than most rack mount case (440mm vs 430mm) so you can't just slap on some cheap rail you find on it and put it in your rack. There's not enough clearance. Silverstone does have their own rails to go with it but guess what they are also expensive as hell. And they are so long they have a minimum depth requirement for the rack you put them in, not very fitting for a relatively short rack mount case.
Nothing in rack mount format is going to be cheap. A 4 bay synology NAS almost doubles in price. Either you have the budget and commitment to buy the silverstone rails, or choose another case.
How about a 90/180° power connector adapter for the GPU?

How do i install their rails?
Sliger makes a cheaper option thats basically the same thing but about $200 cheaper and give you compatible rails for $40 extra as well as an optional 360mm AIO CPU cooler that the case is purpose designed to fit. Also no annoyingly useless door. Those only make sense if the server has HDD's or other external facing drive bays. Doors on a homelab system make 0 sense to me.

You are wrong about not using a 40 series video card as there are already 90 degree 12vhpwr cables. Try searching for "Extension Cable 16Pin to 16(12+4)Pin 12Vhpwr Right Angle for Graphics Card" there's some available on ebay via chinese sellers which are perfect for the PSU placement in that case. You should be using SAS3 or SAS4 internal to external adapters as those are also compatible with SFF-8639 and or (I don't remember the port number) SAS4 port based NVME or TRI mode cards. Using Sff-8087 to Sff-8088 adapters is a waste now unless you have the hardware and cables laying around already. You are speed limiting yourself with that old adapter which will cause you to spend WAY more money down the road.
It's neat it comes with included feet to use as normal desk top however I don't see myself paying 400.00 for this case to be a desktop. Way to many options for nicer cases at that price point. I would rather they took an extra 20.00 off the price tag and kept their feet.

Aww, too bad you can't have the door closed if you do need regular access to the front IO. I get why you would want that lockable in a server env, but at the same time they bothered that much to make it dual-use and still left the FIO behind.
why is a rack mount like this so expensive if you look at other cases you get more but for les... i would love to buy 2 of these and make me and my wife's computer room looking awesome in a rack but why for this mutch

Looks like its build like Chenbro, Inter-tech and all the other chinese brand 19" cases. I find the price simply too high.

Cable issue may be solved in minutes and you are again complaining about nothing.
Unique? Not really. Lets dissect. It has plastic feet. Whoopie. Then it has a bare aluminum interior(they skimped on costs). It has no PSU included. It has no backplane for multiple drives(like a Supermicro SC846). So your only "unique" part is the AIO extrusions? THat is 100% not worth the price.
Its different for the pc market but as a server 4u case its really lack luster for the premium price that it is.

I do agree that it's a "bit" overpriced but you really can't fault SilverStone for their rack mount case build quality. These are on a whole different level from their "consumer" case. Just try to lift one of those with your two hands and you'll feel they spare no steel (yes, steel not aluminium) there. You can see from the video there's another steel panel screwed onto the bottom of the case to give extra rigidity for supporting the motherboard. Most cheaper rack mount case just give you some standoffs and call it a day.

@@Cary_mac I guess this case might be targeting a very niche audience who a) want a rack mount case b) but aren't exactly building a server in it. You can see from the main selling point being water cooling compatibility here. You can probably achieve similar results with a much cheaper rack mount case, but not without having to go through a lot of drilling and cutting.
Actually very cool case. Its still very expensive for whats essentially stamped sheet metal.
