He was the lead in “ Sorry to Bother You” and that film was hilarious
Lakeith can’t act. The rest rest of the actors were awesome! How can someone famous be that bad at acting?

It’s funny that you mention how some actors can elevate a mediocre script because my first thought was “Eddie Murphy in the original Haunted Mansion”. Sure, it’s not a good movie, but he was still good in it.
I personally liked him in the film. To me, he sort of balances out the over the top nature of Danny Devito, Tiffany Haddish and even Owen Wilson with the toned down performance. He says some funny things, has some funny moments, but never has to over do it. If anything, the contrast of him playing most of it straight helps elevate the other performances.
LaKeith Stanfield was perfect in "Haunted Mansion". He brought a mysterious, sexy vibe to the role which is kinda how he presents himself in public. And his eyes are so emotional.
I love lakieth but he needs a little more work. He still gives off stoner vibes in all of his roles. Now to his credit it isnt as if will smith hasnt been playing will smith with different degrees of smitheness and emotion
Lakeith is grumpy at the beginning at the movie, but later on he becomes better.
Love LaKeith, but for the role as it was written, either of his male co-stars on Atlanta would have been a better fit.
Disagreed, he was actually the best part of the movie for me. He kept everything relatively grounded for me and didn’t need to be over the top. He was just a normal dude who had depression and idk, that was a bit relatable in how he reacted and engaged with stuff.

Oh, I totally agree. He would be good in maybe something dramatic. This movie just didn’t suit him at all.

In this type of movie, you've got to have a little hamminess to your performance, and Lakeith is just...too good for this, LOL
Like he can't help but to be in Legitimate Actor mode most of the time, so he ends up down playing a role that really should be more over the top, that's how you make mediocre kids fodder like this rise a little above its station.
Gotta disagree with this. The movie needed a more grounded lead to offset the other over the top characters, and he was great at that

Him and the little boy were my least least favorite characters.. I wish they would’ve scouted for those two roles longer. The rest of the cast was really fun to watch though.

LaKeith Stanfield can, kind of, play straight. You all should watch Short Term 12. It was his feature film debut, and he was great in it. Rami Malek and Brie Larson are both in it as well.
