Casey's voice on my transistor radio in the '60s was one of the most familiar and comforting sounds of my youth. Though I was never counted among his friends, I always thought of him as one of mine. RIP, Casey.
Wow! This is the 1st time I've heard this spoken word single from my main voice man Casey Kasem with the George Martin Orchestra instrumental version of the Beatles song "And I Love Her" serving background. Marvelously recorded on the Warner Bros. record label in 1964 since I was born on that year. I really do miss hearing Casey Kasem's voice and I love listening to him at AT40 on the radio, watching him on Shebang, AT10 ,CT10 and America's Choice on TV, doing voice overs on commercials, narration and cartoon characters. I sure hope that the programs Shebang, The Best of America's Top 10, The Best of Casey's Top 10 and America's Choice hosted by Casey Kasem would all come out on DVD someday in the future. In my opinion, he'll never be gone as long as we remember him. Thank you Casey for giving us your voice and those wonderful TV and radio programs you've hosted. And in the words you've said, "Keep Your Feet On The Ground And Keep Reaching For The Stars!"
THIS JUST IN! I've just learned that Casey Kasem has also recorded 2 singles. "Forget Him (He's Gone Forever) on CMC Records - 1968 & "No Blade Of Grass" on MGM Records - 1970. I sure hope somebody finds those 2 singles & posts them someday.
Casey Kasem's awesome! And he's made such an impact on my life. I'll always have a special place in my heart for him. And of course, I miss hearing him on the radio. My favorite part of his show was the long distance dedications.
Casey Kasem was the best! In one AT40 show, we listeners learned the rankings of all the popular songs, historical chart references made interesting by Casey's musical knowledge and passion, were entertained and informed by his masterful storytelling of the singers and songs, and often saddened by his legendary long distance dedication segments. Many have filled his shows and time slots, but no one will replace this icon. I still listen to his 70s/80s countdowns every weekend on Satellite TV.
Since his death, I've been listening to lots of Casey Kasem on this site. This particular record I haven't heard in about 20 years! What a touching letter about a girl's encountering her favorite Beatle, George Harrison! R.I.P Mr. Kasem
Actually, Casey had left San Francisco when he read this letter and had landed at KRLA, the 50KW blowtorch in Pasadena. I visited with him twice on the phone and he truly was a nice guy. What a great legacy he leaves behind. Thanx, Casey
Heard this on my local radio station this week and thought it was incredibly sweet. The letter was lovely and the way Casey narrated it was very nice. Although, if I were Paul I'd definitely have been scared.
Casey was NOT at KYA in San Francisco as you stated. He was at KRLA in Pasadena, California in 1964. I was working as a staff photographer for the KRLA Beat in 1964 and 1965, and I also did some photography for Casey at his teen dances he held in Thousand Oaks and Simi Valley.
This is pretty cool - heard this for the first time on Dennis Mitchell's Breakfast with the Beatles. The imagery is relatively clear which is good. Casey brought it.
George Harrison was a sweet gentleman, but he really didn't like his personal space to be invaded like this. It's this sort of thing that made him want to quit touring later on. Anyway, his heart belonged to the beautiful Pattie Boyd at that time. No other girl had a chance.
Bless you Casey. Miss being able to talk to you. You were more than just another celebrity. You were a man full of compassion!

May I ask how you do that. I would love to listen to some old AT40 countdowns from the 1970's and the 1980'. Thanking you in anticipation!
His feet are off the ground now...but he is still reaching for the stars......

That got a lot of airplay on KRLA in 1964.

This recording took Casey Kasem from local Radio Personality to National Icon.
I think this became sort of a foreshadowing to what was to become American Top 40's Long Distance Dedications. Good luck on your retirement, Casey.
Bubbled under at #103.
This is a rather touching Beatlesmania spoken record.
Just wow.

The kRLA Beat was available at a local record store. I never missed an issue.
@@Boldorion1958 That's fantastic! I am proud to have helped document a part of history and being able to work with a radio legend Casey Kasem.
His LDD feature started in 1978.
