Even as an Englishman I gotta say, 9:51-10:25 is the best part of the entire compilation (other than Nigel of course lol). Hearing the fans belting out the French anthem and it getting louder and louder is just beautiful!!!
There is a reason why Nigel is known, Worldwide, as the referee Grand Master. EVERYTHING is fair. He'll have a laugh & a joke with all the players. But when the game is in play, Nigel rules the field. When have you EVER seen a referee make someone the size of these guy stop arguing by simply dropping their first name? As the commentators said, "When Nigel speaks, we listen."
Sorry Brah, South Africa would have loved to claim him, but we cannot. He is from Wales. South African Referee don't joke around, always serious, because usually, the fans will take their frustration out on the referee so they keep things professional
The whole "this is not soccer" thing is because soccer has a culture of players arguing with the referee and disputing calls, and rugby doesn't. In rugby, only the team captain is supposed to talk to the referee, and when the referee wants to talk to any other player the captain has to be beside him.
He's not South African, as much as we would love to claim that, he's Welsh. It is mentioned that Nigel Owens is from Wales in the video, guess ya missed it.
He is Welsh, which means he comes from Wales. He has a strong west Wales accent with no sign of South African accent at all. From where do you get he is South African? Respect to the referee and your opponents is central to the game and its ethos. Nigel Owen exemplifies the spirit of that respect. He keeps referring to soccer because in rugby it is accepted that no one except the captain should talk to the referee and that players do not call out for infringements by opponents. I do enjoy your journey into rugby!
respect is really important and big in rugby especially to the ref if you watch other refs you'll see that, backchatting to the ref can easily have you send off so you just shut the hell up no matter what 😅also notice how they call the refs 'sir'
You literally repeated Nigel's line that he's from West Wales and yet you say he's from South Africa? Sorry, but yet another example of how many Americans do not understand where the rest of the world is coming from!
Nigel is from Wales. That line where he says "I'm straighter that that one" is because he is gay.

That is why, rugby is a gentleman's game.
U listen to the officials.
U respect the officials.
The most revered rugby ref by pretty much any rugby fan, regardless where you're from

"If you're going to cheat, cheat fairly".......Nigel Owens. Btw, he was using his phone because his microphone had stopped working.
Thanks for this, my friend. SUB TITLES:)
He's Welsh so it's Rugby football and old school so he calls football Soccer but it's really not a thing even back home in Wales nowadays!
He also does it for international players

also the captain is the only one allowed to speak to the ref
He's about 5'10" but looks miniscule against the players (except Faf De Klerk of course) . Nonetheless, everyone listens to him.
The phone I believe his mother was in hospital. Only Nigel could get away with it.
starts at 1:05

The one clip was a verbal penalty because the player showboated as he scored, it’s a gentleman’s sport…not soccer🤣
4:11 "I'm from West Wales". Very much not South African.

Unfortunately poor nigel has the misfortune of being welsh. We all have our flaws
