The single player maps not allowing certain cosmetics (especially lobby tracks) is ridiculous. The only explanation I can think of is that they want the rating to apply to streams and recordings of those maps as well. In the past they let us refund any cosmetics that were altered after they were released. I wonder if Epic is gonna compensate players because when the cosmetics were purchased they did not have this restriction and have now been changed retroactively.

What they should do is for the skins that they think are not age appropriate, let it be visible for the user, but not other players in the server

It could be easier said than done. They already have a system that makes your cosmetics the default if you don’t have the right skin equipped as well, so it would be easier to change the one that already exists than to write something else from scratch.

For the pickaxes like Thor's hammer and the other variants, the warning was for the fact that you can only use it with a specific skin, not that you couldn't use it in the everyone category.

What I don't get, is why they don't just make a "content filter" under some parental control section in the settings. So they can specifically allow some things and not allow others, but it would be client-side only.

I think they should only make it so that people with parental controls on can’t see the skin, meanwhile everyone else can. I also think banning skins that have weapons on, when this game is literally based on using weapons is dumb. This change is reasonable, but the extent Epic took it to was not necessary at all.

9:41 Thors hammer isn’t banned, you just can’t use it with the skin you have equipped. They use the same symbol for both can’t be used with this cosmetic and rating.
They really gotta remove this feature and keep it for accounts with parental controls only

@@wilbs5970 well thats not really epics falt there. in normal seasons, its rare just to get 1 location added to the game in a update let alone a biom. hell we got an entire map back just for 1 season and a biom on its 2nd weak. hell after this season ends, were getting a whole new map, machanics, weapons, skins, a whole lego collab, and much more. they got alot of work to do for this season and adding all that stuff for 1 mini season is to much time. another reason why this shouldn't have been a mini season.
Epic is known to make dumb idea's I mean they killed off Unreal's series for Fortnite. I mean the engine they use has the name Unreal in it for crying out loud.

the reasons that certain skins (for example: Deadpool or Midas) is because if a skin has a gun holster strap or ammunition strap on their body, it wouldn't be considered appropriate for maps rated E, only T. That's why so many skins got restricted.

This is just beyond. My son is now 11, but he and his friends have been playing Fortnite since they were 7 and 8 years old and none of them have ever been scared or shocked by the fact that skins in a shooting game would have guns on their hips. I mean, come on Epic.
This is more of a legal protection in my opinion. So many kids play call of Duty but it's always based on the parents if they care what their children play.

Maybe they're future proofing these? What if an item comes out that can display your loading screen or play your music pack?
I'm not saying I agree with Epics decision, but that is my speculation on why they went through the trouble of banning loading screens and music packs. The whole thing still sucks.

ALSO I noticed when playing squads using team fill it now kicks out all team at the end of each game. So if you have a good game and win at the end of the game you normally have the chance to leave team or stay but now it just says team has left the match.

The pickaxe bans are very confusing because there are so many swords knives axes etc that arn't banned but some are
Just to be clear, the thor hammer, venom pickaxe, etc. always appear with that sign on it because they can only be equipped with their respective skins(it goes away when you wear them).

FYI the BR (both build & zero build) got an M rating in AU. We dont have the "T" rating here, but M = 15 yrs old (and up of course)
As an action figure collector who has slowly seen guns and weapons be phased out from iconic characters due to legal issues with companies like Warner Brothers, this just feels like more of the same. At least it doesn't affect the BR experience.
If we pay money for these skins we should be allowed to use them anywhere in game.

i see no problem with the update since i played a bit today ranked and some creative box fights and zone wars and got no restriction on those maps got no intention of playing E rated maps unless its a mission giving a pickaxe or sum like that
This is so disappointing. I really like "roleplay" maps in Creative. Now I can't use half my cosmetics in those maps because they're all rated E just because they're not combat focused.
This is the worst change in Fortnite history. If this change stays, I'm done playing the game and supporting it. This is one step too far, Epic. Fix this. or I'm sure EVERY player is leaving the game.

Can't just be weapons. I did same as you - picked an E lobby and checked skins. Same bans as you, but found not banned skins with weapons on their person. For instance, Ruby Shadows and Ruby Reg (and her options). As to scary being the reason.... Renzo is still available and he's a skull headed robot. Turk is banned but Wolverine (or Logan) isn't?

Im not 100% sure if this'll turn out to be the case, but i feel like this will hurt the population playing creative more than it bringing in more players. I mean, maybe epic games was thinking they could increase the playbase if they have more options to welcome younger players. At the same time a LOT of players seem to be opposed to this or at least think it should be implemented differently though and it could make them not wanna play creative with this new limitation implemented. Just my thoughts. Keep up the good work though tabor and thanks for informing me and others on this.

Little kids are the ones who spend most money on skins to use all those "inappropriate" skins. If they can't use them they'll go where they can.

I mostly play creative, so this is pretty annoying. Though with this update, hopefully at least we'll start to see more out there stuff added to fortnite, stuff that was previously seen as too adult.

My 6 year old nephew loves creative modes like only up and his only skin is venom. How is this not illegal? Restricting something they already sold seems illegal without offering a refund. Making certain maps on a rated T game somehow a separate rating seems illegal as well. What stops GTA from making a race mode that is rated E? I hope a lawsuit is underway

Thor's and venoms picaxe weren't band they're just only usable with their respective skin and just shows your equipped picaxe when not using Thor/venom

Sure, this change has its pros, but for the overall benefit of the game, they should really revert/limit the cosmetic restrictions. Also, another thing that I found interesting is at the time I’m commenting, your video has the same amount of views as one of your old videos covering the banana badge emoticon. To think that it’s now one of the banned emoticons for rated E experiences is crazy.

I think they should restrict the smaller community that ONLY does E ratings showing default items. That way all the cosmetics could be used and there wouldn’t be any restrictions. Doesn’t make sense they did it that way. I don’t really feel affected though because I only play the T rating game modes.

The difference between domino and Kate bishop are the guns in the skins. Like the ones in domino’s holsters. I’ve noticed a lot of “not scary” skins that are banned because of holstered weapons.
Could you make a video explaining what the most recent end user license agreement is about because i recently logged in to play the new season and was given this end user license agreement and dont know what to select with my options being accept and decline.
They should make it so that when you equip that skin, it shows up for you, but for other players you are a default skin.

I refuse to believe the ESRB/PEGI forced Epic’s hand on this. This has to be like, lawsuit-proofing or something.
There are a few other skins which are selectable styles they forgot to flag. Some are just somehow overlooked as well
Just make an age rating setting you can turn on for kids so they only see default skins clientside.

They should implement a feature kinda like vrchat revamping this system, where you will always be able to see your skin you’re using but in those younger ratings a different skin will be showed for them like a fallback skin/avatar, boom everybody wins

From what I've seen its any skins that have ammo or weapons on them that are flagged. With that being said I just don't see the point as the game revolves around using guns, so having them on a character skin shouldn't matter. BUT I think that if an account belongs to a person under a certain age then they should see any of the flagged skins as default, since we bought the skins we should be able to use them regardless and for the kids that play they wouldn't see the skin.

Its funny and is cracking me up how the base game is T for teen so people who are downloading this game cant even play battle royale if they are too young, and can only play the sometimes decent E for everyone creative matches. So what's the point of fortnite doing this if they are marketing their battle royale and not the creative matches. ITS THE BASE GAME, if they have a teen rating on the game itself they don't need to add this extra crap that doesn't matter since their parents decide whether they download it or not.

The rating, for most of these, is based on whether or not a weapon is a part of the skins design. There's nothing "wrong" with Black Widow, per se. The same goes for the Cable skin since he has rounds of ammo strapped to his chest. I have no idea why Venom is restricted, though.
The skins being "scary" seems to also be a factor in the rating system

As a kid I thought venom was fucking awesome and not scary. I feel like unless you’re 3 years old venom will be fine.
This gives me some insight on this year's Fortnitemares and why it seemed worse than last year's.
I figured the random zombies that poped out was too scary so that's why they got vaulted.
this is wild. i think there should be a parental control option that you can change. it’s up to the parents to control this type of thing if they have a problem with it.
Another change I noticed is that after a match there is no button to ready up anymore. You have to go back to your lobby everytime push play and enter the que. Not sure if it is a change or a glitch.

If want to see how arbitrarily they decided this look at some of the seven skins.
The Order and The Visitor are banned for the bullet casings, but The Imagined and The Origin aren't.
Other skins with bullet casings that are fine include Calamity, Ultima Knight, Bandolier, Lt. John Llama, and Indiana Jones has a holstered pistol but is still fine.
Meanwhile Slurp Bandolier is vaulted smh

I think the way they should do it is if an account is under 10 then make it not display the skin. But if your count is over 10 then you should be able to see the skin you bought and paid for
Thor's hammer isnt usable because you werent wearing a worthy skin. i always archive those pickaxes so the annoying triangles dont pop up but so much for that since they'll be everywhere now
I’m assuming that the deadpool skins are locked is probably for what the movie is rated and with the pickaxes like Thor’s hammer and venoms pickaxe it’s because those pickaxes are only able to work with those skins etc: Thor from ch2 season 4 his hammer is only usable with the Thor skin.
