That's a large amount of blues. is that typical for your palette or unique to this scene because of the water and sky? great video; i'd love to see more!
I find different blues to be extremely useful for mixing grays, and having lots of blues is typical of all my various palettes. I didn't talk about grays in this video - but they're discussed a lot here: ruclips.net/video/gwLQ0cDb4cE/видео.html
Marco, thank you for the videos. I love them.. however I’m new and having issues selecting brush type and brush sizes. Can you please help sharing what size brushes you have used in this video ?
Your tutorials always run straight in my head.... and thankyou for doing these for free! this is a wholesome content! I will surely apply this in my future paintings thank you very very much!
You are definitely one of THE best art teachers I've ever come across on the internet! I always come back to your videos and gain a lot from them. Very, very helpful information put together in a way that is fun to watch. You're the man!
Paint Coach c’mon, you can’t do everything without the expense of something. Is it possible that you really mean to compliment him and actually have no intention of changing mediums? Then just compliment him....
elsa Grace I meant what I said. This is the first video that’s inspired me to do water colors again. Is it possible you have no intent on providing any value and just troll comment sections...?
I love all your videos. You are so generous with information and your videos are extremely well done. I learn a lot about shapes, values and color from your videos more than all books and other videos combined. Thank you sir, and congratulations on 100K subs and can't wait to see more of your videos.
There are an awful lot of watercolor tutorials on RUclips. Your paintings are wonderful and inspirational but your skill as a teacher is fantastic. Thank you for all your help!
Wow, I love how you didn't feel the need to put color everywhere, leaving a blank space between the background and the foreground, it helps with the focus on the boats. I would never have thought about that, your videos are invaluable to leanr watercolor, thank you
Hello Marco, love your works, watercolours are splendid, I do watercolours because of you. On my trip in Vietnam this year I painted nine watercolours and this whole series was inspired by you. I watched your videos before I left and you made to buy my first watercolour. And you still makes me think about my technique, I'm trying keep it simple because I always dig in to details . Thank you! Keep going!
I don't think you can fathom the sheer number of Revelations I've had about a myriad of subjects from your focus example using a simple sentence. Mind-blowing stuff.
Funny how the moment you added the masts in, I immediately thought, “I liked it better when it’s simple.” Then at the end of the video you came back to that exact point and iterated on it. We both came to the same conclusion. I love just how conscious and critical you are of your work process at every stage, and don’t mind relapsing in a meaningful way. I know I don’t paint like this at all; I always want my emotions and mood to inform my artistic judgement above all else. But that’s why your art appeals to me; it has a certain craftsman’s quality that make it feel so compelling and well researched. (That sentence probably didn’t make much sense but whatever!)
Great video! I love the writing analogy. As a realist painter, I find your approach to focus incredibly helpful for painting on location without being overwhelmed by all the details I am inclined to include.
Marco, I just wanted to say how much I appreciate the effort you put into your videos. I have been following your stuff since your first few posts and the quality and content of your videos just keeps on improving with every one. I struggle a lot with color and I find your insight super useful. I've picked up plein air water coloring and haven't had this much fun with art in a long time! Above all else, your passion and enthusiasm is what always has me coming back. Thank you.
I have a constant battle with focus. Sometimes focus can be elusive and I get scared that I will miss the right marks and the painting will come out bad. This video does a great job in pointing out the problem solving behind it.
That focus thing kinda reminded me about how dreams could actually be like. When you're dreaming, u only remember the focus u had in the dream. Actually, I guess that's the same while conscious. We have this "attention filter" when we see things, and I think this is close of what we see and remember of things. It's like a visual representation of a memory. That's cool :)
I really like the way you talk about your process. You have a very clear style of communication, and it helps me to follow what your doing and gain core understanding. Thank you!
very good narration. thought out. clear and concise without eer , aaah, repetitions nor meanderings. Great audio quality. Obviously a pro. well done. Subscribed.
Just started to use watercolour for sketching, and was overwhelmed by the amount of information available - so this video couldn't have been more timely. I've learned so much just from this, that I feel much more confident.
Heard you on Your Creative Push. Liked what you had to say. Liked how you said it. Liked the quality of your voice. Having watched your video, I knew I had to subscribe. You are an excellent teacher as well as painter. There is no real failure only opportunity. I become an artist when I learn the how, what & why of painting beyond muscle memory,
Seriously, this is good stuff! I have no art education but as I dive into this world, your videos have been the most informative thing I have come across. The way you explain art theory in a hands-on way with such easy to understand language is invaluable! The videos are also simply entertaining. Thanks Marco!
You truly are inspiring!! Your information is so useful, I will definitely remember your teaching later. Thank you so much for posting these amazing videos!
You have such a different view for eveything :D Your videos are super helpful. They show everything from a different perspective comapre to other tutorials. The example with the sentence shows exactly how focus works, and while I was listenng, I just realised, I totally lack of focus in my drawings :D
I love the analogy you use everytime to explain ...also various aspects are getting clarified with your videos for sure!! i would definitely recommend your channel to my artist friends.
I don't know where my art would be if I hadn't discovered your channel. Thank you so much for your hard work, and I hope you will be able to continue your tutorials in the future (especially with traditional mediums like this)! Congrats on the 100k!
Beautiful painting and thanks for sharing your videos and I enjoyed seeing you painting also learning from you so thank you again and hope to see more videos.
Dude, that was wonderful! It's such a blessing to watch your process and hear your thoughts that shaped your decisions! Thank you for making these and sharing them with us! And congratulations on surpassing the 100K subscriber mark!!!
Really wonderful video .. perfect timing for me , as I tend to do exactly what you were illustrating in the beginning sentence .. I find it almost just like a habit to lose the focus of the painting and overwork it all.. thank you soooo much!! Congrats on your 100,000 , too... by the way I purchased your “ small world” book and I just love it !!! I left a review for it on your site .. Thanks for inspiring me :-))) I’ve re awakened to watercolors after a twenty year hiatus and I’m totally in love with them and with learning :-)))) thanks again , Marco
Again, a great inspirational clip. The art of reduction is so key and also so difficult. BTW I missed seeing your old and totaly paint covered palette.
I actually really liked the first sentence of the giant monster hiding. It made me picture the exact spot of the monster behind that white door, and then my imagination started running. As opposed to "There was a monster hiding somewhere in the house".
Thank you so much for your videos. I sketch a lot outside, but I feel I just do it kind of without a method. So there are a lot of errors, and with your videos I've realized on what I should focus. Please continue to share your knowledge :)
WOW! This was probably one of the few art videos I watched from start to end - every single second was valuable! I tend to overwork my watercolor and do too much details, that it takes away from the painting - Your art is very inspiring, and the video was extremely helpful!!! THANKS 😍😍
KuyaArgs it wasn’t me but when I compare my pitiful painting skills to his I could feel mad, disappointed, irritated and downvote the video. So that could be why the 👎🏾
Something I've been trying a lot more on my channel with my plein air sketches is not only choosing a focus, but also doing a wash of one single color over everything that ISN'T the focal point. It's helped to further emphasize what it is that I'm trying to bring attention to. I also try to make the background looser, but your technique is even more loose and playful than what I do and I think I may try to evoke the same feel the next time I go out to do one of my Diner Doodles. The tonal contrast especially is something I really like in your examples-thank you for the inspiration and advice! =^.^=
I really enjoyed your comparison of painting to writing and editing. As a writer, it made so much sense to me to go back and review a sketch without seeing as a failure. For those of us who don't do digital paintings, how would you suggest a similar process? Btw, I own every watercolor video you've done, even purchasing some twice.
Maria Peagler Thanks Maria! If you don’t use digital paint, you can simply do that last step on scraps of watercolour paper. Or, even better (because watercolour sometimes isn’t very controllable in real tiny sketches) a few gray markers in a sketchbook. More specifically: get a light-gray-paper sketchbook, a couple of darker markers, and one white marker. You can work out any visual problem with that. Perhaps I’ll do a RUclips video on that process in the future :)
I thank this guy for telling me that writing an essay with 500 world limit is bullcrap, i just want to GET TO THE POINT, not add useless and meaningless stuff that no one needs to know.
Love the pastel color choices! Totally agree about darkening the shadow. I'm surprised you didn't want to darken the back building in the value redo also so that the boats would be the sole focus. Any reason why? Did you think it would be too unbalanced?
Dear sir, thank you so much for this video. I used to be very intimidated by watercolor and wasted many pages because i felt like i messed up.. Following your tutorial, i finally managed to make a painting that i didnt feel like throwing away. Im not sure if i can post the photo here. However i think my colors still get somehow muddy and i need more improvement , so i would appreciate it if you could give me some advice to improve my watercolor paintings. Thank you so much!
My palette, starting at top-left: Cobalt Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Alizarin Crimson, Ultramarine Violet, Cerulean Blue, Horizon Blue, Manganese Blue, Cobalt Turquoise Light, Pthalo Blue, Lemon Yellow, Cadmium Yellow Deep, Yellow Ochre, Cobalt Orange, Vermillion, Burnt Sienna, Raw Umber, Spring Green, Neutral Tint.

Marco Bucci your videos are *always* helpful and we'll made, thank you, and congratulations.
What brand manganese blue do you use?
It's amazing how you condense 4-5 years worth of learning in a 13 minute video! So many tips, so much artistic wisdom! Everytime 11/10
That opening was probably the best explanation I ever heard to an art concept.
Holy cow. I leave every video you post a little awe-struck by the great information. Thank you, Marco. Another really great video. Really well done.
Jared Loves to Draw thanks a lot, Jared!
Marco and Jared, Love both of yours channels 👍👍👍

All the best!
I really like how it turned out. Watercolor is one of my favorite medium and to be honest I'm guilty of overworking details.
Congratulations on the 100K. This video teaches editing and observation equally well for visual artists and writers.

Superb Marco.

haha - I miss the dirty palette too. Much easier to mix colours with it! Thankfully, it'll be back :)
Your videos are the best thank very much marco please upload more more videos 😊
