after all of the recent horrors in the news, it is good to have the lighter side of life here at JT's..smiles and knowledged earned is fine with me..thx Friend..
You must have the patience of a saint. I could never deal with all those instructions and directions, let alone disassembly and reassembly. God bless you, JT
Neat to see what this clutch pack looks like apart. I gotta do that to a 2470 soometime here. You definatley have a lot of patience working on that and putting together a video too. Good luck getting the basket case back together again.
Bravo JT! Ditto on working in the heated garage. I’m doing so on a woodworking project because I have no heat in my garage and the man cave is the shop now. Much better than frostbitten fingers. But once again a superb job and a great example of following the instructions. Another step closer to moving on its own.
Love the comment turn the page from Bob Seger ,s tunes , looks Like Fluffy is over seeing the operation ,you have a lot of patience following the hook , great job. 🤠
Great job and great video JT. I would use the petroleum jelly over wheel bearing grease given the choice. They also make transmission assembly lube grease just for seals. Hat tip to the writers/illustrators of the manual. Come on spring I'm tired of the cold and ready for some shop time myself.
Dang JT!! Workin on gettin that pwrshift back together! I'm impressed! Makes me want to split my 2090 and rebuilt the pwrshift!! ....NOT!!! Hope you dont lose that nail! (On your finger!) 😂
Congrats JT on another surprise win of getting the Clutch Basket repair and put-in the tractor. Fluffy was survey the areas for any Bad Guy's. no rats today..
I really enjoy watching your videos, and really appreciate your Humor JT... 👍👍👍 With almost 4 decades as a Diesel and Heavy Equipment Mechanic and currently a Training Instuctor for a large consturction equipment company here in Ohio, I Really liked you doing this by the book, nothing worse than having to do the same job Twice... 3 degrees outside + Smashed Finger = Some new Colorful Adjectives Websters is going to have to add to their Dictionary...
I just completed an inframe overhaul on an 1850 Oliver gas. I would not want to try the basket case transmission. I will just continue to watch your progress.
Another great video. It is not only informative but also entertaining as well. Sorry about your finger, but I'm impressed that no vulger language made its way onto the video 😂 I can't wait for this baby to get to paint.
Had me on the edge of my seat waiting to see how you were going to pull those staple-clutch-retaining-clips out... I think I missed it. :-) Another awesome video! Cheers!
Bringing the operation inside when you can is the way to go. Cold concrete (or cold dirt , as the case may be at times, is the worst) Good luck on the Case and thanks for bringing us through the process. I would like to build a shop someday (with in floor heat ideally) but mumma has the money earmarked for other stuff. oh well........same old lament through out the ages!
The surgeon starting to bring his patient back to life. I’m sure this will be a thing of beauty once it’s all back together and painted (White & Orange or White & Brown ) 😉 Looking forward to the next stage of this girls adventure. 👍
At 36:55 I was like NO!!! DON'T REACH BACK THERE WHILE YOU'RE PUSHING!! Exactly ten seconds later at 37:05, you justified my concern. 😂😂 Glad you're mostly okay, because that got a real good chuckle out of me. 😁 Hopefully the ice does the job. Be safe, brother. OMG, that ending, too... 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Good job, I watched this job being done on a 830 Case back in '67 while working in parts at a Case Dealership. May not be the same but it looks close....Thanks..
Glad to see its going together. Now hopefully you have better luck than me. I double split the 1066 to replace some poor bearings and a bent shaft to fix my vibration issue. Got it together yesterday to find out i still have the same issue. Come to find out the rubber In the front crank pulley let loose and is slipping, when it slips that vibration resonates to the transmission...
I once assisted my co-worker put a new seal ring on a pneumatic valve piston. That o-ring was made of hard teflon. It had nearly zero stretch. It took the two of us to pry it on with fingers.
Nice video, JT - very interesting - it went together really well, probably due to the great preparation work you did, new parts and the service manual. It was very detailed. Not exactly sue why they specify Vaseline as it is a petroleum product just like grease - maybe it has the right viscosity for this particular job????? Dunno! Full speed ahead!
One green Petrol motor would be pumping water over a distance for stock water or market garden . Jt take the highest bidder option mate . Small or large You shall see after today will tell .
Awesome sweatshirt JT. What kind of motor is the one out of your old JD combine? I remember our old 300 Massey Combine I believe was a 290? Chevy 6cly. I doubt JD made that engine and if it's a old chevy or ford motor you could find a old truck to put it in. I must tell you I'm so impressed that you can tear into these old tractors and put them back together and they run! It sure makes more sence than leaving them sit and rot away. And I can't wait to see that case all painted in it's black night trim.
And yet another excellent video, from the man! I could see that at the end of the video, your finger was smarting pretty bad. With a small drill bit, just drill through the nail, by hand of course, and instant relief will be felt.
Great job JT, good thing for manuals, it’s definitely better to be a little to long than a little to short, for most things 😂 hope the finger isn’t to sore
Great Video JT, That is a very valuable video, I suggest you give a copy to "case" the only thing that might improve it is a "voice over" of someone reading the Manual, I can still remember a Case 970 doing some field cultivation at a ploughing day that 6 cylinder engine sang it's way down the paddock as the power shift went up and down the rev range, thanks for sharing
JT you need to sell off some stuff so you can afford to insulate and install heating and cooling in your shop. The Vaseline dissolves with heat. I don't think the grease would dissolve as easily.
That would be cool to see you build a 95! My dad told me he use to run a 55 with no cab when he was younger. He said my grandpa also built two pull style Baldwin gleaners from kits. Could you imagine farmers nowadays building combines from kits 😂
Nice one j.t as normal. It's really coming long Nice. You bin lucky getting the parts for the job that's one good thing. Be nice to see her driving around in all gears. Then you got your favourite job paint. L.o.l I'm glad you managed to get parts. I expecting you to it's going 3 4 weeks out. Great job.
My dad's 6600 combine had a 303 gas engine. Apparently it's nothing like yours. It was a hard starter even on a 90 degree day. When it did run it would run hot and drink gas like it was going out of style.
Always a good idea to do a job step by step using the manual always takes a lot of worry about missing a part of the job out.. really great video...looking forward to the next episode....and I must say it was very short sighted of the people who wrote that manual to not include the sentence about keeping fingers out of the way..🙈...Hope you heal soon and if this comment doesn't get a reply or a thumbs up il just assume your injury has made typing impossible 😢
Bellville spring, you had never heard of one, split an old MF tractor that has a duel clutch, on taking the clutch to pieces to sort out any trouble it may have, the PTO clutch plate is pressured by, you guessed it, a Bellville spring......Excellent video.

You should always soak the friction plates in the correct trans fluid (or oil, as the “case” may be) overnight before assembly. I’ve rebuilt several auto trans and done wet clutches, and every service manual I’ve ever read says that same thing.
after all of the recent horrors in the news, it is good to have the lighter side of life here at JT's..smiles and knowledged earned is fine with me..thx Friend..
Appreciate it! Only straight forward fun here 😊
Excellent Video JT vechile and bet going crazy also drive lots when matinee up all completely!
You must have the patience of a saint. I could never deal with all those instructions and directions, let alone disassembly and reassembly. God bless you, JT
I try to be patient 😉
Patience is a must, looks like a mechanical nightmare compared to other tractors of that era. Always enjoy the content. 🇺🇸🇺🇸
Love how you show all the steps. Very educational.thank you
I appreciate it! Trying to show as much as I can.
Great video JT, basket case on road to recovery, hopefully your crushed finger tips are also recovering 🤞. Enjoyed watching as always. 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks 👍. It’s getting better lol
Thank you JT for the amazing video again 🙏😊
My pleasure!
You are a true inspiration to preserve good old machinery👍
Wow, thank you!!
Neat to see what this clutch pack looks like apart. I gotta do that to a 2470 soometime here. You definatley have a lot of patience working on that and putting together a video too. Good luck getting the basket case back together again.

Vaseline part made me chuckle.
Great videos on the Case.
You're making great progress on the basket case making it more better 😊 no pain no gain???
Thanks!
The best thing I learned here . Preparation ,preparation ,preparation . A complicated job made to look easy
That's what it's all about! 👍
That manual is worth it's weight in gold
Nice work jt
It sure is! Thanks!
Good job keeping your patience in check. Glad I stuck around till the end. Peter gave me a good laugh!
Right on!👍🏼
Always entertaining and informative, the old ways are best. Love Fluffy
Glad you enjoyed!
Early 80s shop class love it thanks JT 😅
You bet 😆😆
Good to see the old girl coming together!! Looking forward to the finnish!!
Right on! Thanks!
I had another comment i couldn't resist, "You Picked A Fine Time To Leave Me New Seals"🎶🎶🎶
Perfect!!
Well most people probably thought it wasn’t interesting but I did. Good job, it’s going to work great, I can feel it.
Thank you! Appreciate it!
Great job for following the directions and putting that back together!! I hope your finger isn’t broken.
It’s doing better 😉
Enjoying the progress!!! That manual is so precise too! Keep it up JT!!!!
Thanks! Will do!
Love watching a plan come together. You’re amazing JT. Your will to tackle these issues are way greater than mine. Good luck!
Thanks so much!

👍🏻👍🏻it’ll stop hurting when the pain goes away
😆😆😆. Bingo!
Dang JT!! Workin on gettin that pwrshift back together! I'm impressed! Makes me want to split my 2090 and rebuilt the pwrshift!! ....NOT!!!

😆. I think that nail is on limited time at this point lol
Congrats JT on another surprise win of getting the Clutch Basket repair and put-in the tractor. Fluffy was survey the areas for any Bad Guy's. no rats today..
She kept me safe again 😆😆
Great job so far for the Case.
Thanks!
Love your videos a small farmer making stuff work the way farming should be
Appreciate it! It's all about getting the job done.

Better you than me. You had me lost when you said let check the manual. 🤣🤣👍👍👍

Had me on the edge of my seat waiting to see how you were going to pull those staple-clutch-retaining-clips out... I think I missed it. :-) Another awesome video! Cheers!
I didn’t get that on camera. They just twist out easily 😉
Looks like it’s going together decent, besides the smashed finger or two. Looking forward to seeing what’s next. Thanks JT. Have a good weekend.
Thanks, I appreciate it!
Great video my friend. Sorry about your poor finger. Kind of excited to see if the old basket runs. Cool project. Thanks for the ride.
Thanks! It’s been a long road, but I’m hoping it runs well!
I got chills just thinking about how cold it was there. Just want to let you know it was 58° where I live in Kansas.
I’d take 58. lol 😆
Bringing the operation inside when you can is the way to go. OMG, that ending, too... 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Right 😆😆😆
That was a sick burn re Case tractor and Vaseline 😂😂😂
😆😆😆😆😆
You sure have patience.👌
I try
Been there mashed one a bit myself today. It was a glanceing blow with a 4lbs hammer lol great work buddy!
Appreciate it!
When you put it back together, leave the repair manual inside the cases for the next guy.
Right 😆😆😆
I wouldn’t have been able to sleep the night before worrying over getting that put back together correctly . Great video JT👍
I have to admit, I am a little anxious about it lol
Well done my friend youre getting there. Good luck with the next bit.
Thanks 👍
JT that was an awesome video no matter what you find a way to get it done 🎉🎉🎉
Right on!
Thank you
😉
I am not a Case man, but my Dad was a Cat mechanic. He said NEVER use Vaseline to lube seals. Always drop seals in oil before install.
Interesting...Thanks for sharing that!
18:56 “I’m a little longer than seven inches. But no girl has ever complained about too much length”. Quote of the year! 😂😂😂
Right on 😆😆
Good job, I watched this job being done on a 830 Case back in '67 while working in parts at a Case Dealership. May not be the same but it looks close....Thanks..
Right on!
It was either an 830 with a Case-o-matic torque converter drive, or an 870 with Power shift. 830's never came with Power shift.
Nice job JT your addition to detail is spot on as the book says hopefully the finger is not too bad 🙈👌
It’s getting better lol
I'm glad to see you getting the Ole girl back together Jt.
Thanks!
The vasoline will desolve when heated and be absorbed into the fluid without contamination. Automatic transmission shops use vasoline all the time.
Right on!
Well done DR. Mechanic, you did it.
Thanks!
Awesome job Sir!
Appreciate it! 👍
Well done 👍
Thank you 👍
Good one J T. The power shift is coming together good .
Right on!
What a nice project this is. After all this work and later the paint job its not a tractor to send down the road quick, right😅
My plan is to do planting season with it and see how I like it 😉
So pleased to see you wearing your MF hoody, whilst reading the Case manual. Keep the faith brother 👍
Will do! Massey till the end!
Well done JT soon have it up and running .
Sure hope so!!

@jtsbarnngrill6873 I am waiting for you to find a 4020 to put that john Deere engine in.
I once assisted my co-worker put a new seal ring on a pneumatic valve piston. That o-ring was made of hard teflon. It had nearly zero stretch. It took the two of us to pry it on with fingers.
I can believe that! Those teflon rings are a bear!

very nice precise work , almost like clockwork :)

Great job JT,hope the trobbing finger gets bettor soon lol
Thanks!
Ver nice video again. Lokking forward to the reassembly.
To bad with the " Peter Griffin" knee there😂
Right! Still throbbing lol

Another great video mate hope the finger gets better 👍
Appreciate it!
good job on the basket case JT
Thanks!
And yet another excellent video, from the man! I could see that at the end of the video, your finger was smarting pretty bad. With a small drill bit, just drill through the nail, by hand of course, and instant relief will be felt.
I’ve considered that 😆
@@jtsbarnngrill6873 Keep up the good work, JT, without injury, take care.
Good job!!! Sorry for the smashed finger!
Thanks!
I've never seen a Massy Hoodie before!, where can I get one? Love it!!
Mrs JT got that for me. I have no idea where she found that one
Great job JT, good thing for manuals, it’s definitely better to be a little to long than a little to short, for most things 😂 hope the finger isn’t to sore
It’s throbbing a little 😆😆
My absolute favourite you tube channel
Thanks! Much appreciated!!
JT, try and stay as warm as possible. Good video as always!
Thanks, will do!

JT you need to sell off some stuff so you can afford to insulate and install heating and cooling in your shop. The Vaseline dissolves with heat. I don't think the grease would dissolve as easily.

As much oil as you change you should get an oil burning heater for your shop.
I have been thinking about that!

Ha! I can’t imagine that now a days lol
Vascilean is a great lubricant for putting things together where o-rings are used. It will dissipate with heat and not clog oil passages👍
Right on!

I once saw a 6600 with a gas engine. From what I read it was only the early ones. Always thought a 6600 was a lot of combine for a 303 lol
@@jtsbarnngrill6873 If I remember right it was a 1970 model. It was definitely to much combine for that engine. I was 10 the last time it was used.
I vote for a combine for the 303!!
If ya can find one worthy of it..😊
You’ll have look into a radiant heater up in the ceiling in your new shop
Right on!
Coming along nicely JT
You'll soon be driving the old girl... take care.

Slipped in that Bob Seger reference.. nice!
Thanks!
Im assuming some kind of insulation and a wood heater in the shop for next winter lol.
Yes. For sure
One more step closer to to getting it done and you know a cold beer will help with the swelling of your finger stay warm
Thanks!
That valvoline you using has a low melting point, so the hy-trans will easily replace it when at operating temp.
Right on!
🎉🎉🎉🎉👍👍👍👍nice work 😊
Thanks!
Awesome
Thanks!
Been trying to think of something for you to do with that engine, but I can't lol
😆😆
I've never done a case power shift, but we use to overhaul automatic transmissions in the automotive world. Vaseline was used because it wouldnt cause the orings to swell, and if you had no Vaseline you just used trans oil to lube the seals and orings. And then the only other thing my boss was anal about was soaking the clutches overnight in transmission oil. But that may of just been his way. Cleanliness is the most important part. Good job JT
Appreciate it!
You should always soak the friction plates in the correct trans fluid (or oil, as the “case” may be) overnight before assembly. I’ve rebuilt several auto trans and done wet clutches, and every service manual I’ve ever read says that same thing.
Yes, it seems to me I remember the manuals saying that too. It's only been 20 some years since I did one.
