Taemin is a great artist. He is a member of SHINee since their debut in 2008. He is also a member of SuperM (which may or may not see another release). His solo debut was in 2014 and his work is quite extensive with many Korean and Japanese releases.
In order to express himself, Taemin is very involved in the creative process of the songs and the accompanying videos. His live performances are mesmerizing. You'll see when you watch him. Taemin is one of the top dancers in Kpop. He's my favourite because I like his style the most.
I hope for more reactions to Taemin.

Taemin is the role model of K-pop idols. He deserve world recognition. Discovered him recently through his don’t guilty and I have been enjoying his past music performances as well. He surely is the most unique K-pop artist who breaks the norms of idol culture! Taemin we need World Tour asap…

I listen to A LOT of music. Lots of differents artists, genres, different languages. However, Taemin has stood out to me since he first debuted. That man was born to be an artist and a performer. He just breathes and exhales art, and he always gives his all in the music he makes. I love the way he thinks as well. He puts in so much thought and consideration into what he wants the listeners to take away from his music and MVs. Something about his group, SHINee, is that they're all storytellers.

I see "Advice" as a continuation of the themes within Taemin's previous Never Gonna Dance Again album trilogy -- "2 Kids," "Criminal" and "Idea." With "Criminal" and "Idea," Taemin talks about being involved in a toxic relationship -- not necessarily a romantic relationship, but a metaphor for his relationship with fame -- in which he agrees to be manipulated almost to the point of being destroyed in order to become the artist we see today. But, in the end of "Idea," we see him become free from the box everyone wants to put him in and he comes to terms with his role as an idol. He has now formed his own "Idea" about himself and what it means to be an idol, etc.
As Taemin explained during his VLive event for "Advice" -- which came out in 2021 -- "Advice" is like the end to the first chapter in his life, and it marks the beginning of the second chapter. The song seems to be his way of saying I am done caring to everyone who judged him and all those haters who spread rumors and misinformation about him. "Advice" is showing that he is now free and confident to be himself, breaking stereotypes and now only listening to himself.
Taemin is just one of those performers that leaves you speechless every time he steps on stage. He was born to be a performer and that is one of the reasons why he has become known as the Korean Michael Jackson. That is also why, as one of the top two performers in the industry, he was made a member of SuperM. Taemin is an Idol of Idols and a legend of legends. (He is considered the blueprint for what it means to be a successful as a male solo artist. He was one of the first male idols from an active group to go solo, and he did it at such a young age, starting in 2014 at 21 years old. He has been a solo artist for more than half his career.)
In "Advice" he's basically saying, "Stop trying to put me in a box, in which I'll never fit in." He is also speaking to everyone that says he's getting old, that he's just a Michael Jackson wannabe that doesn't sell a lot of albums because he tries too hard to be edgy, etc. He's rebelling against all those people who are constantly advising him to make more mainstream music, or to follow the traditional Kpop idol style, in order to boost his sales and his popularity. However, as Taemin is making clear in "Advice," that is not who he is and he will never be "normal" or "mainstream" and he is OK with that.
In the scenes where you see him covered in ink, I think that is supposed to be him showing everyone how he is no longer the "unstained," cute maknae everyone wants to think of him as. The diamond you see painted on his hand when he is playing the piano, and you see drawn on his bicep, etc. is SHINee's symbol and all the pearl aqua blue/green colors you see in the MV is SHINee's official color. (The large tattoo of a Peony flower you can see on his hip is real. Hence why in the lyrics he says, "I destroy the torso that you were chasing after." In other words, he's saying he's tired of people thinking they even have a say in what he does with his body.)
This song was specifically designed to not be like anything he has ever done before. He plays the piano, he raps, he shows off his falsetto notes, etc., which is different than what we often hear and see from him. He intentionally used this song to prove that he isn't one type of singer. People often think of Taemin as a sultry vocalist that sings in a breathy comfortable, less dynamic style. So, with this song he wants to prove to everyone that he can be unpredictable and try new things. Yet again, you can't put him in a box or tell him who to be. Everything you see in this MV is 100% Taemin, including the piano playing.
Everything that Taemin's haters like to point out about him and say are reasons why he shouldn't be held to such high esteem, I find completely ridiculous. I don't think that anyone who actually knows him would ever say he has played it safe at any time in his career. If you think he is only one dimensional, and that he is trying to be anything other than himself, then you really don't know Taemin. Everything he does is different, out there and definitely not safe. It's always uniquely Taemin, and he couldn't do it any other way.
Also, because Taemin is a member of SHINee, none of his songs are ever like anything you have ever heard or seen before from him. It will always have a new beat, style and sound. As SM Entertainment's experimental boy group, SHINee is meant to be the first and they are expected to set the trend, and that includes the members' solo work. With every new song Taemin produces it's expected to be different than the last, so you will never hear the same style or sound from him in any of his songs, even on the same album, and yet, it still will be uniquely Taemin-like. Which is another example of how you can never put him in a box or expect anything from him. :D
Another theme in "Advice" is about how Taemin is embracing his androgynous side -- but on his own terms -- which I think is a continuation of the message in his "Move" MV. Early in his career when Taemin was growing up in SHINee -- he debuted in 2008 at 14 years old -- he was known for his delicate feminine features. It took him a long time to accept that he was recognized for his looks and to come to terms with the fact that everyone thought of him as a "pretty boy," etc. So, at this point in his career -- he is now 27 years old in this MV -- he is making a statement about how he has decided to be himself and no longer care what people think. Music is art and art has no gender. So, that is why in "Advice" you see him wearing hair extensions, fishnets and women's Supreme sportswear, etc. But if you notice, his choreography is very fast paced and sharp, which is hyper masculine -- a complete contrast to the "feminine" image people want to give him. You also see him wearing makeup, but it's smeared on his face, as if to say, "people may think of me as a 'Pretty Boy,' but I don't care about looking pretty."
In the lyrics he is saying, "It's creepy how people are always looking to cause drama, so stop trying to create scandals in my life that don't really exist. It's all just stories you make up." He's tired of all those people who seem to look for reasons to cause drama, where none really exists.

Where he says "floppy" in the lyrics, I think he's talking about knowing about or hearing firsthand the things people are saying about him, but he is choosing not to pay attention to them because what they're saying is flopping or doesn't hold any weight or have any substance, etc. "Advice" just proves that every time people try to put Taemin in a box, he destroys it and keeps coming back with something more unique and never seen before.
Hence, why in the choreography he puts his hands in front of his face and creates a movement that looks like an animated mouth talking. It represents how everyone keeps talking about him and what they are saying is nonsense, which makes them look and sound ridiculous, etc. Which is why in the lyrics he says, "You will never get the keys to my lock" because he doesn't ever plan to give people what they want and allow them access to his secrets and personal life, etc. (Those people who like to gossip about him will never truly know the real him.)
I interpret the "One (piece of) Advice" he is talking about in the lyrics as a reference to the advice he keeps being given about being more mainstream, but he's saying, "stop trying to make me conform to the image you have in your head of who I should be and what I should do." In other words, take all that time and effort you have been using to come up with ways to talk about how he doesn't fit in, etc. and put it to better use. "Follow my own advice" and do something original for once.
And the crucifixion pose at the end of "Advice" is sort of a signature pose for him. I interpret it to be like he is saying, "And that is the end, this is my final word, take it or leave it, but don't doubt me. I have given it my all and laid everything I had out there for you," etc.
You should really see his "Advice" dance practice as well. It's a good way to see the full choreography without any cuts, edits or ackward camera angles.

Taemin and his group, SHINee (means receiving light), are probably one of the most beloved and influential groups in Kpop to this day. They debuted in 2008 when Taemin was just 14 YO (and just 11/12 when he entered SM as a trainee). In addition to Taemin, SHINee is comprised of Onew (leader, oldest), Jonghyun, Key, and Minho. Taemin is the maknae (youngest member) of SHINee and today is his 31st birthday. Since he is in his 17th year of being an artist, this means that Taemin has been in the industry more than half his life.
However, his fame has come at a price. As a very "pretty" young boy, Taemin has been very exploited by the industry since his appearance with SHINee. This messed greatly with his head in addition to conflicting majorly with his Christian worldview. Although Taemin LOVES what he does, the struggle to resist all the temptations and the insidious underbelly of the industry constantly clash with his Catholic values. Unfortunately, his SHINee brother, Jonghyun, probably the best Kpop vocalist of his generation, couldn't withstand the pressure. He was exhausted and wanted peace. His loss also greatly affected Taemin, as they are all extremely close and consider themselves family.
Therefore, Taemin expresses these anxieties, fears, anger, frustration, and heartbreak through his music. To know Taemin is to know his music. He tells us exactly how he feels, what bothers him, and how much he loves and appreciates his fans. With each album, it seems that Taemin gets more personal with the trauma he has sustained over the last 16 years. His latest 2023 mini-album, "Guilty" reveals just how controlled, manipulated, and bound he has been over the years. In the MV, while it may "appear" as if Taemin is possessed by toxic love, that is far from the actual meaning of the song. Taemates (Taemin fans) know that Taemin is revealing something much deeper, and in interviews and live chats on various platforms, he gives us snippets of it's meaning. Many of us were shocked at how revealing this was once we saw the MV and understood the true meaning. Playing with the theme of duality, Taemin depicts his struggle as both a Christian performer in an imperfect world trying to stay true to his faith, and the desire to embrace the constant bombardment, enticement, and brainwashing of sinful temptations offered by fame and the false "gods" of the industry that appeal to his very base human nature. It was so beautiful but heartbreaking at the same time.
"Advice" was the last installment released of this continuous personal story of Taemin just two-weeks before his mandatory enlistment. It was considered the epilogue to his entire 2020, "Never Gonna Dance Again, (NGDA)" 2-part album storyline until "Guilty" dropped in 2023. The entire album is cohesive with connecting concepts based upon his philosophical musings. Taemin is DEEP into exploring philosophies from around the world, as he uses them as a foil to explain his struggles. Every aspect of his music/MVs: lyrics, choreography, images, costumes, is replete with symbolic messaging--many of them Christian. You can never look at the MV and think the surface of the lyrics and such is the actual meaning. You must dig much deeper to get to the truth.
The prologue of NGDA as a pre-release was "Two Kids", seemingly the story of the fresh breakup between two lovers. However when Part 1 of NGDA was released, the title song, "Criminal", with the concept of Stockholm syndrome, revealed it was more of a schism that occurred within Taemin's mind between his "good" side and the "bad". Taemin was being held captive by his sinful desires warring with his Christian side and his love for his craft. Neither one wants to give up; they are chained together in one body. "IDEA" is part 2 of NGDA with the concept of Plato's Theory of Forms which states that no created being (form) can create itself. Only an outside force/being can be the creator, and only that being can create perfection -- something Taemin is always seeking from his "Messiah". This theme is perfectly aligned with his Christian worldview. The MV depicts the culminating battle between good (heaven) and bad (hell). "Advice" depicts a battered and scarred Taemin, the survivor of IDEA, castigating both toxic fans and naysayers along with the industry (the collective one advice). Taemin dismisses them all and states he will stick with his own ADVICE. They are stunning MVs, as is the norm where Taemin is concerted.
Taemin is very intimately involved in the entire process of making his music. He will tweak lyrics, the music score, helps with the choreography, often changing it on the fly in performances according to how he feels (Taemin is a natural, self-trained dancer and could dance extremely well at 12 when he entered SM). Choreo staples include his iconic "T-Pose", a nod to the Cross, and he very often incorporates the sign of the Cross into his dancing -- but you have to be quick to catch it. Once you see it the first time, you have no trouble spotting it in almost every choreo. He even has input on his set designs. He is a self-admitted perfectionist and workaholic. To learn more about him, I suggest the excellent mini-doc, "The Artist: Taemin" ( ruclips.net/video/m2_MVBxmdyc/видео.html )
I hope you will continue to explore his thought-provoking, Avant Garde music, as well as SHINee's vast discography. They are all phenomenal as a group, as well as soloists. They are all extremely talented. SHINee is not limited to any one genre, but as one of the very first experimental groups, they regularly explore all kinds of genres and even blend several together to produce their very signature SHINee sound. Thank you for the reaction!

Taemin and his group SHINee are considered legends in kpop. They have been around since 2008 and a lot of international kpop fans from that time discovered kpop because of them in 360p and not HD. They started the trend of releasing dance practice videos and intense choreographies for songs. When they debuted everyone even watched their rehearsals because they were singing live even with intense choreography. All 5 of them are successful soloists. They are considered as performance legends because it’s so much better to see their live performances than MVs or albums. Their debut Replay is considered the best kpop debut and because of it they are the first Rookie Grand Slam winners. Also all boy groups still cover Replay.

Regarding schooling...All the SHINee members have college degrees. Onew (leader) even has a Ph.D. Taemin has a BA in Music & Film studies and is working on his Masters. Taemin was actually at the top of his classes in math and participated in Math Olympiads. He was also quite adept in the sciences. Education is stressed and taken very seriously in Asian countries, very unlike the US to our detriment.

One of my favorite songs.. you can hear that he meant every word. He is a legend . he has beenaroundfor years now. He always does "his thing", and combining styles and new stuff into his songs snd performances, he chooses songs that are uniqe. And he sing it with passion because he believes in his art and he breath and eat art for breakfast lol.
He taught himself how to dance, and when he started as a memeber of boy group SHINEE - he was the best dancer there even though that he was the youngest. he has a very uniqe way of dancing and most of the chiography is his own made movements .
He didn't like that everyone thought he is a pretty boy without singing abilities... now he is a great singer that gets to sing hard parts in songs (when he is performing with group, like SHINEE or SUPERM)

I highly recommend you watch the entire Never Gonna Dance Again story arc, starting with 2 Kids, Criminal, Idea, and then re-watch Advice with fresh eyes. If you want to watch Taemin's newest song Guilty he released post military service, I can't stress enough watching the trailer he put out first: ruclips.net/video/CdYpEjawK38/видео.htmlsi=mFSMnaLOTkjFF3cu It will give you more context for the brilliance that is Guilty. He also put out the performance video for The Rizzness from his Guilty album that generated a lot of laughter and mockery by people who only focused on the word "Rizz" and did not bother to read the lyrics!! As if Taemin didn't know exactly what he was doing with this song... Taemin's brain is wired differently, guys; he is an extremely intelligent, analytical, deep thinking Artist in every sense of the word. The dichotomy between his dark, sensual, introspective work and his own sweet, goofy, and extremely kind personality is utterly fascinating! Please continue to explore his work!
