It's probably in the comments somewhere but just in case. The Marshall Plexi plugin is just about the most accurate available. Softube collabed with Marshall when creating the amp, then used cabs and mics from Marshall's vault when recording the IR's. About as real as they can get without needing a trolley to wheel it around.
I picked up a Volt 276 a few weeks back and so far I'm loving it. It is a thing of beauty and has a really premium feel. Also the external power means now that I can hook it up to my ipad without sucking the life out of the battery. Plus I can plug in my old midi keyboard without needing any dongles or adapter. It's a win win for me. :)
I click thumbs up first, then watch. Never have I changed my mind. Thanks for this one as well! edit: Love the beat up Boss Overdrive! Brings back so many memories! 👍👍👍👍👍
This video is informative and good to know! I have an Apollo Twin for my home, but yet to make use of the plugins and consoles it also comes with, as I'm slowly trying to get a handle on music production in general. I do have a Zoom U-44 interface that I have for mobile that does me fine, but the Volt looks impressive at its price point. I'm good with what I have now for a number of reasons, but balanced jacks, quality build, independent gain knobs, an impressive amount of software (yeah, don''t get the Spitfire thing unless it has an easy bundled installer or something). As ever, thanks for what you do!
I recently picked up the Volt 4 to replace my Behringer Umc404HD and could not be happier. The Behringer wasn’t bad but did have some noticeable low level noise which I was willing to put up with, but didn’t play well with iOS which I need for upcoming shows so grabbed the Volt. How little did I know how much better it would sound and integrates with iOS on AUM perfectly.
Hey! So I have a pair of Sennhieser HD 650. Can I plug them in the headphone out of Volt 1 and use it to mix or should i get a new headphone amp? Thanks.
Very, very cool overview which convinces me that I acted rightly when I purchased exactly this AI 3 hours earlier at Thomann. Thank you for this convincing video and the cool audio example! 💪🏻👏🏻👍🏻🙏🏻
Bahahahahahaha!!! That was the best wait for it moment video I’ve ever seen! The VOLT song was awesome! I just picked up one of of these because my $500 Focusrite Clarette 2pre just stopped working on me, and I didn’t want to buy a new one or pay to get it repaired. So I found one of these at our guitar center today for $100, and the damn thing sounds great! 🙌🏼
@@TheGaragebandGuide I am looking forward to trying it this weekend with my acoustic guitars and a 1 inch diaphragm microphone. I usually use two inputs, so I can run a small diaphragm microphone where the neck meets the body, and a 1 inch diaphragm in front of the body. But for $100, I don’t mind recording Acoustic with just a 1 inch diaphragm Mic. I’ll find out how good the mic pre, and the Vintage setting is this weekend. The album I’m working on right now is all open tuning acoustic guitar instrumentals so I will definitely be putting this baby to work! Again, bravo on your most excellent video and VOLT song!
I couldn't make the reverbs work. But I like the standard sound of this USB interface through my Dynaudios so much that after several days I haven't even though of trying the Vintage button.
I've never had an interface before, but I want to do some recording so me and my friend who's a drummer can finally do some proper stuff on our own time. I was thinking of either getting this uad volt or the focusrite Scarlett solo. But I'm more inclined to get this... I'm an absolute noob when it comes to using stuff like this
I bought a Volt 1 and had intermittent audio drops from the interface on my M1 MacBook Pro. Thought I had a bad unit so exchanged it for a Volt 2, same issue. The UA support boards have a thread related to this issue for Apple Silicon Macs. I switched to a Motu M2, much better box overall. Useable meters on the face and much lower latency along with a dedicated 48v button for each input.
I'm about to take the plunge and have been looking at the Volt 1, Scarlett Solo Gen 3, Motu M2, Evo 4, and M Audio AIR 192. I've got an M1 Macbook, so this is extremely helpful - thanks!
I have the Volt 476p and it’s fantastic. 4 inputs, 4 outputs, each with dedicated preamp controls for each channel, and a 76 compressor on each input, with 4 voices for each. Two headphone outputs, stereo monitor outputs, gain meters on each input/output channel, vintage pre-amp option, midi, usb-c, and a ton of actually useful free plugins. And it can be powered from usb-c if you want to take it on the go, and even works with iPads. It’s incredible, but more importantly it sounds fantastic. Best DI I have ever used for under $500
For the 76 compressor, does the mic gain work kind of like the input knob on a normal 76? i.e. in order to get more compression you raise the mic gain / (input)?
Thak you for the review Patrick. Helps a lot for us to choose from so many choices. Just a quick question, the front input is stereo? All the best, thanks.
This is my interface, after long research I decided not to go for a higher model, it works fine for me as a beginner, however, I still can’t notice the difference when switching Vintage mode ON! Guess I have to visit an otorhinolaryngologist to check my ears 😂 I love it as an entry interface, but now I’m more convinced of Motu M6 Thanks a lot Patrick, great video de ❤
Thank you for the review. A huge selling point for me is that it can be usb powered as I plan to use it for live performances, and i can do with one less adaptor. Does this however affect the output? Would it have enough output/gain to run directly into monitors or a mixer? (any difference when externally powered?)
Hello there! Awesome review. Im building a home studio and I need to buy a AI and came across the Universal Ausio Volt 1. I want to be able to plug in a guitar and a microphone and use Neural DSP plugins and record some stuff on Cakewalk. Is Volt1 the interface that covers all these?
I'm pretty new to this kind of stuff, but would like to start recording music. So this is an audio interface, but what are the monitors that hooks up to? Are those necessary if I hook it up to my PC?
Hi, Thank you for making this video. I have a question for you, I am using the Volt1 Audio Interface with the Shure MS58 microphone (connected to my Macbook Pro), I would like to make my microphone sound louder into my headphones while using direct monitoring during my recording without causing any clipping/distortion by adding too much gain. Would a cloudlifter or could you give me any other solution that would fix this? Thank you
In late 2021 I nearly bought a UA Apollo interface but the price was kind of high so looked at the Volt. But the local music chain here in Canada loaned me a MOTU M4. I've never looked back, The sound is beautiful, clear, airy yet full and no I'm not affiliated with the company lol.
Cheers Nick! I *think* vintage mode is meant for vocals more than anything else, so I probably should have done a vocal A/B instead. Great feature though!
Hello my good sir i have a question, can i use the volt 2 connected to my guitar amp and still use my headphones so i don’t annoy the neighbors and still record on GarageBand (ipad) would really appreciate if someone could help me with that
Extremely timely, using windows but my head tells me ios or mac a better option, the audient Evo 4 you reviewed earlier the best option or the Volt. Im in Edinburgh
Depends on your need really. If you only plan to record one thing at a time, the Volt’s single input will suit and it has a load of unique features to boot. The Evo is good if you want the flexibility of multiple inputs, plus it’s smart gain feature is great if you’re just getting started.
Thank you for your replies. To further complicate ive just watched your Scarlett Solo video, how does that fit into the mix, particularly if i stick to Windows 11? I wont ask any more comparisons, promise 😁
The Scarlett is also a solid choice and lands right in the middle of the two I think. Any of the three we’ve talked about will work fine on pretty much any platform, so I still think it comes down to price and how flexible you need your interface to be.
I had to sell my apollo twin x, i ended up with the volt, I have to say, im highly dissapointed with the preamp. I didnt expect them to be as good as the twin x but they are really bad, like, low mp3 quality recording bad. Almost makes me feel like im doing something wrong. Do i need to plug in the DC cable? that 10k roll off is really noticable

You're going from a balanced to unbalanced signal (XLR to TS jack) which the interface may find hard to see given that it expects a Mic/Line input (XLR) and not instrument (TS jack) XLR to XLR is the best way to go

Agree. Lifelong vintage Marshall player and UA’s Plexi is stunning. I use the free version that comes with the Apollo and it’s perfect.

No idea about Windows drivers I’m afraid, latency is unnoticeable.
