I had my boat in storage for 5 years (4018 marine version), put a battery in it pushed the fuel filter primer a few times until it felt heavy (marine version not sure your version has it) and it started up like it ran 5 minutes ago, it also cranks slower than yours, think you might have compression problems. *edit* I never use the pre heater thing as it's not needed at all unless it's way below freezing.
Buen día, Me gustaría saber cuales son los primeros pasos para saber si el motor Perkins está suelto y que debo hacer antes de arrancarlo? El motor en cuestión ha estado inactivo durante 30 años. Soy de Portugal
@@BarcelonaAustinA35 the perkins has sleeves, I thought. The parts guys all sell them. Its just like my boat engine and the starters are a stress point and Ive installed a gear driven chinese starter with a shim adapter and it works great, and reduced the huge amp draw of the old Delco starter that is about 90 pounds, also much smaller/lighter. (great old engine) Just put some warmth on it prior to starting, sit a heater in front of it for half an hour. The combustion needs this to help it light the fire, a heat gun on the cylinder head would also work. In really cold temps theyre impossible to start but when its warm they go off instantly.

Had that engine in a generating set and it ran forever…
