    Bro… You just got my vox tracking quality from 30% to 90% with this 🤯 My room is untreated & I have just a reflection filter as well & was rec so much room sound in my vox but it’s all gone now thanks to the api gate. I always thought the gate would just help with fridge / ac type background noise, but it literally took away all bad artifacts from vox. Really apprec you 🙏🏼🙌🏼🙏🏼

    • @DaBlackMicTV
      @DaBlackMicTV  2 года назад +12

      I mean it’s all still there but with the right usage and combination of mic placement and gain you can tame it all to work for you. Playing around with the setting that gate is heaven sent. I’m so glad u were able to take something away from this video. I’m got some more cheat codes to come and up on my page.

    • @hawkeshiphop

      @@DaBlackMicTV Thanks bro, yeah it helped the most with tracking and just not being distracted by the room sound but using a gate def acts like a noise suppressor / deverberates vocals for sure

      @@DaBlackMicTV I love the Uad 1073>CL1B too but feel like wnv I print comp in console, it adds a lot of underlining noise. Still trying to figure out how to lessen that

      @@hawkeshiphop 🤔 I don’t believe I’ve had that issue…. But the job of an engineer, is to assess until u get down to the bottom of that. But seriously let me know when you’re able to track that issue to what’s causing it. Are you using MAC or PC?

    Great explanation of the gate function and how you can both have a high pass and boost low frequencies. I was moving away from thinking about the Vision but I’ve read a lot of good things about it and I think this puts me back on the prowl for it. I’m torn on if I get that if I’ll be wanting the 1084 as well. I feel like it’s overkill but I’m tempted to just grab both!
    To answer your question I mostly perform into OBS with Maschine, electric bass and vocals. I’m a musician who just got an Apollo trying to figure out Logic but am about to give that a break and try Luna. More templates for how you do your plugins would be great, maybe for instruments like bass or music production tools like Maschine/ableton live. I’m often sending multiple tracks from a loop simultaneously (when I’m running a track from Maschine into my Apollo). You have an excellent presentation style!

      @@DaBlackMicTV thanks man, appreciate the response! That’s pretty much where my head is at with it. At this point the Avalon-737 has jumped onto my list as well. Kind of a midpoint with functionality between the Neve and API. Ive got demos for all 3 open now just going back and forth. I hear you about the API having a wider use. I’m probably gonna end up caving and getting all of them at some point. This is a dangerous system for a guy like me! Again, great work with your channel I’ll be following

    Brotha thank you so much for this video!!! Man I been so tempted to get my hands on that API plug-in from uad and just watching you work with it honestly makes me want to pull the trigger right away. How is the intensity of this plug-in with your UAD chip? Are you able to use a few of them before you run into overload? Thank you so much for this video brother

    • @DaBlackMicTV
      @DaBlackMicTV  3 года назад

      You’re welcome bro… I’m glad u enjoyed it. The API channel plugin is a beast. With an Apollo twin you’d probably get away with running 6-8 (maybe 10) instances of UAD plugins before your run out of DSP. I recommend getting a satellite if your looking to up ur DSP without having to get another interface. But there’s also a bunch of slick work around to conserve ur DSP. Thanks for asking, you gave me an idea for a video 🙏🏿

    Great video. Quick question, is it abnormal to also use plugins in your daw (pro tools) when recording? For example, having an EQ and compressor on the pro tools track AND having it going through the console as well. Just wanted to know if this would be too much processing or if it’s a normal technique. Thanks

    • @DaBlackMicTV
      @DaBlackMicTV  3 года назад +3

      Nah, not at all. I tend to keep it light goin into a DAW because the processing that I do via UAD Console is destructive (much like analog gear, once you record with it, you stuck with it) but once I get into the DAW its non-destructive; I can do whatever I want manipulate or bypass. Either way I'm tailoring the vocals specific to the song I'm recording. What I do in console is general for the most part to achieve a go sounding signal that I can edit on any system, there after.

    Hold and Rel on the limiter are just hold and release King, I use the Api channel stripe offered through UAD Spark on the Api. Dope piece to have and great way to break down your vocal chain. I don't think I caught what Mic your using but great content either way. Now if you can dail in and fine toon hip hop vocals using UAD stock pluging would be one I'm interested in.
