I had a uyghur friend freshman year and after graduating he had to go back despite not wanting to because he felt unsafe and was afraid of being detained. After he went back it took him 3 years to leave after that but his family is still there.

I suppose you could classify China Uncensored as anti-CCP propaganda, but the same label would equally apply to this channel. I would argue that the CCP largely does it to themselves; at least some of the negative bias just emerges from telling what's happening (although China Uncensored definitely does have a habit of picking the negative interpretation when two options are available). And to be clear, the Reservation system was nowhere near as Orwellian as the Uighur genocide. There was no mass surveillance or anything. It is frustrating. It is easy to find proof that certain countries aren't just trying to counter videos like this but actively make Western populations more susceptible to alternative views. For instance you will find many of the tiktokers and such that put out videos like 'ancient Antartic civilization covered up' or 'proof of aliens!' etc. etc. can be linked back to suspicious countries (namely Russia) - not always directly but sometimes just by generating AI content that these creators can use or the original idea for example. It feels like they're trying to persuade people that the 'mainstream' can't be trusted and that you should look towards fringe groups for your information. Basically creating populations that are less likely to believe reputable outlets and more likely to believe alternative facts from unverified sources. It's doubly frustrating because there is a kernel of truth, the West is not perfect, sometimes there are authorities with ulterior motives or coverups, propaganda light and biased news outlets BUT you would have to be blind to not see how absolutely and totally morally corrupt these bad actors are compared to the West. It's like comparing a regular guy who got drunk, drove home and killed somebody and a serial killer without remorse that has killed dozens.

I remember a few years ago one of my best friends sent me a video on Twitter of a very popular male Chinese model who took a video of himself while he was in a labor camp. Somehow the video got uploaded online, and that is something that's still rings in my head years later.
For those of you who may not know much about this subject, there are probably still dozens of American clothing retailers who use Uyghur labor to make their clothes. There was a list that came out a few years ago, I don't remember all the retailers on it, that explores which retailers in the United States utilized slave labor, from the Uyghur people, to increase their profits.

I had a uyghur friend freshman year and after graduating he had to go back despite not wanting to because he felt unsafe and was afraid of being detained. After he went back it took him 3 years to leave after that but his family is still there.

I suppose you could classify China Uncensored as anti-CCP propaganda, but the same label would equally apply to this channel. I would argue that the CCP largely does it to themselves; at least some of the negative bias just emerges from telling what's happening (although China Uncensored definitely does have a habit of picking the negative interpretation when two options are available).

It is frustrating.
It is easy to find proof that certain countries aren't just trying to counter videos like this but actively make Western populations more susceptible to alternative views.
For instance you will find many of the tiktokers and such that put out videos like 'ancient Antartic civilization covered up' or 'proof of aliens!' etc. etc. can be linked back to suspicious countries (namely Russia) - not always directly but sometimes just by generating AI content that these creators can use or the original idea for example.
It feels like they're trying to persuade people that the 'mainstream' can't be trusted and that you should look towards fringe groups for your information.
Basically creating populations that are less likely to believe reputable outlets and more likely to believe alternative facts from unverified sources.
It's doubly frustrating because there is a kernel of truth, the West is not perfect, sometimes there are authorities with ulterior motives or coverups, propaganda light and biased news outlets BUT you would have to be blind to not see how absolutely and totally morally corrupt these bad actors are compared to the West.
It's like comparing a regular guy who got drunk, drove home and killed somebody and a serial killer without remorse that has killed dozens.

Xinjiang has a different form of genocide: their products banned, their businesses sanctioned, and as a result their people are deprived of income and job opportunities. These 2 regions have a common factor - a foreign power supplying weapons and imposing sanctions respectively, thereby facilitating or creating the genocide. @@shaun7142 Whilst you are talking about declining birth rates in Xinjiang, there is a genuine humanitarian atrocity in Gaza. As we speak, pregnant women are killed in Gaza, newborns are killed, and their population being decimated by war, and for those that survived the relentless bombings, they have nowhere to go, no food to eat, no clean water to drink, and worst still, no hope and no future.
There is a genuine atrocity going on against the Uyghurs. A population of innocents that are suffering horrifically from an authoritarian state.
And if you want to downplay it, guess what, Palestinian loses out to Sudan.
Not downplaying it, but hyperbolizing the genocide there committed by an external power using illegal means including sanctions, product ban, disinformation campaigns. We should stand in solidarity for the Xinjiang people including Han and minorities!
