    I did this repair on a 1999 F250 5.4 with my laptop on the front seat with your video for the procedure. It turns out that the plastic holder for the shift cable was broken, the two t30 bolts were tight but the bushings were shot. I replaced all the parts and while I was at it I pulled the dash console and soldered the faulty joint that made the odometer faulty. You made a great video and I couldn't done the repair without it. Thank you!

      It's probably going to cost $400-$500 in the shop right now getting fixed right now at a shop. 2004 Ford ranger daily driver every day. First time something went wrong.

    • @Mark-qv4bn
      @Mark-qv4bn Год назад

      Update : shifter cable $100, plus 2 hours of labor + tax. $400¿ differential fluid changed after 20 years, 100,000 miles on truck, $60? For rear end service oil change, wow. I'm disabled, mine is perfect like brand new, no bushing wear, wow! Ford Rangers will live forever. Other than brakes and oil changed in 20 years.

    I think the hardest part about this repair is contorting yourself under the dashboard to locate what needs to be fixed if you're a small person it's no big deal but if you're a big person per coming out this repair is going to suck. I think the most amazing part of this video is the fact of how good quality the under-dash videoing was

      Thank you for the compliment my friend I knew it was gonna be a pain getting under the dash so I knew if I was going to record it I definitely wanted to make it clear and precise as I could ✌️👍

    I hardly ever leave comments, but I have to say thank you
    I went to go get the replacement part but forgot to take the old one with me. You saved the day by stating clearly the name of the part I need to replace in your video to the AutoZone clerk. I was even able to stop the video and match up the picture with the part. That was the first part which fixed the majority of the problem but still have a little sluggishness in the column. I will go to part 2 and see if that is my next step. Great job with the video and not talking down but encouraging your viewers if they attempt to DIY.

      I'm letting Good Year do mine today. I'm old, getting under the dash, no way. Hopefully, it will be less than $500. 2004 ford ranger, driven every day since 2004. Still runs perfect, gear shifter starting to get real loose. I pick it up at 2:00 tomorrow. This is a nightmare job. 😫

      @Mr_Goody Thanks I'm working elderly taxpayer on ss retirement. I got diagnosed with degenerative disk disease and chronic pain. I always believed in "pain don't hurt", a lot of things I can't do anymore. The part is $100 the shifter cable and 2 hrs labor at $110 an hour plus tax. Hopefully, everything else is OK in the column. I'll know tomorrow. Edit: shop installed rotors and drums a few years ago, I was driving on metal to metal. Not good.

    • @Mark-qv4bn
      @Mark-qv4bn Год назад

      @Mr_Goody I don't think the original fluid in the differential had ever been changed since 2004. Just over 100,000 miles mostly city driving. Really the first time ever in the shop. Now it's perfect like new again. With a new battery, tax $110 an hour, labor 2 hours +$100 cable. $641, battery $200 installed right. Better to find out now, I live by desert wilderness. A person doesn't want to get stuck somewhere. Battery lasted only 3 or 4 years. Amazing trucks, I tell people it was driven every day since 2004. It's not an easy job replacing the cable and the 15 tools you need. I'll keep it forever. Paid cash for it in 2011. 9 years debt free. Life is good.

    I've been searching for a thorough step by step video to figure out why my 2000 Ford Expedition 4.6L, V8 Triton XLT gear shift was loose and not fully going into park, and I can only start it in neutral now. Besides it will roll backwards since it won't go in park completely.😬
    I'm going to follow your entire video to check all of this to make sure I cover it all!
    So glad your vehicle is similar, so hopefully doing all of this will resolve my issue.
    One question, have you ever had to replace your overdrive knob on the end of the gear shift, mine is barely hanging on, had to tape that overdrive knob on to hold it in place.
    You are an amazing instructor for us females also, who can't afford these mechanics. I replaced my alternator and this will be my second fix on my vehicle. Thanks for the video.😊

    • @Mr_Goody

      Thank you for the compliment. Yes and I have just replaced the overdrive button with I new plastic piece that snaps on. But tape will work too it’s all just cosmetics as long as it’s working. Also about your car not going into gear if the video doesn’t help one other thing you can try is the shift linkage. Good luck and if you don’t care give us an update when you get it fixed. ✌️👍

      @Mr. Goody I adjusted the Shift Indicator Wheel and aligned my gear on park, luckily the white bracket wasn't broken that holds the wheel. Now I can start my vehicle in park.😊
      However, when I put my gear shift in reverse, my vehicle won't go in reverse unless I have someone help me push it back while it is in neutral and then I can put it in drive and go.
      1. Do you think I turned the shift indicator wheel over too much?
      2. After adjusting the indicator wheel, l saw that one of my torq screws had fallen out and I put it back in but it wouldn't allow me to shift my gear so I had to take it back out so I could shift my gear to drive my vehicle.
      I don't know why that happened, but I'm driving with one torq screw instead of two.
      Just to let you know, my gear shift column still is a little loose, probably because of only having one torq screw.🤔
      I haven't check the brackets and bushings yet, since I have been working odd hours, but I'm going to do that on Wednesday morning because I'm off and have time.
      But I'm still confused as to why it won't go in reverse.
      Any suggestions for a female whose trying to fix her own vehicle?😏

      I think they put a lot of my cluster gages on everything. Including the Ford Bronco, all the same, looks the same. I got a new shifter cable, but the shop did it. First thing to fail drove it until the brakes were metal to metal. There's a reason they don't make small reliable trucks. I'm keeping mine forever.

      You should be able to replace it without taking it all out.

    I heard something drop under my steering column that hit the floor. It was a stainless pin that had spines on one end and tapered on the other. It was 1-1/4" long and about 1/8" thick about. Any ideas where it came from?

    I just got done doing this. Everything seemed to go good. I put it all back together, reconnected the battery. Went to start it and nothing! No power at all. What could I have done wrong? Could I have put ignition cylinder in wrong? Help please

    • @Mr_Goody

      Check all of the fuses and retrace your steps in double re-check that’s what I would do. Anyways I hope you get it figured out my friend 👍✌️

    On the key ignition I can’t take it out why that sir

    • @Mr_Goody
      @Mr_Goody  Год назад

      Turning the wheel in the opposite direction can release the lock and enable you to take the key out of the ignition. Jiggling the key - Another easy method for removing a stuck key is to push down on the key cylinder with your left index finger while simultaneously jiggling the key with your right hand.
