I've always said this. Claude is an absolute terrifying psychopath with no hint of emotion or empathy whatsoever. Trevor may seem crazier but he's emotional, has a code and loyalty, Claude has NONE of that. The fact that even CJ sensed this and chose not to engage with Claude says a lot.
No it was just cj being a little bitch, notices how he never said anything to his face and only after he got the garage. Cj didn't sense shit, just like how he was trying to act all tough with catalina and she sneak surprised him
Donald Love said it perfectly about Claude, to Claude when they first met: "Experience has taught me that a man like you can be very loyal for the right price"
Think about this: he dealt with Catalina for all that time, yet at the end of GTA 3 when Maria is talking nonstop in admiration of Claude, he shoots her. She must've been next level annoying.
Catalina had probably already tipped him over the edge. Salvatore only turned on Claude because Maria lied about having an affair with him, and Salvatore was so paranoid after the Casino Heist back in Las Venturas he acted immediately without questioning anything, despite Maria's track record for causing trouble.
@@JustAnotherNamelessGuy Claude. Cash may be stealthy and take on groups of men with guns, but Claude has shown time and time again that he's basically a one-,man army.
This has nothing to do with the Claude lore video but Professional wearing his jacket and a US World War 2 helmet and standing on his chair with two cases of water to test the weight capacity is one of the many reasons I love him. The dedication is unmatched
Claude would still kill Trevor beacuse the moment he call's him any name's is the moment Claude put's a bullet in his head. No Gta character would be friend's with Trevor.
And the faintest slight of gestures would mean a world of confusion Man's like not human, but a walking parameter You keep the gauge full and he'll wont do anything to you
I never thought about it but it makes perfect sense the garage was just a safehouse for him, and he almost certainly got it from a former employer, either as payment or after a falling out. In GTA3 he basically sleeps in a storage room with a mattress on the floor, and he doesn't seem the type to take out a business loan to buy a piece of prime real estate.
It's so interesting how despite all the money he takes and how often he's motivated by it, he never really spends much on himself. It's like an excuse if anything.
@@TheThing4444damn. I didnt even consider that until now. To think that he just uses it as an excuse while not actually even caring about money makes him even worse. Just way worse than before.
It's funny how much Claude and the GTA Online protagonist have in common. But yet even the GTA Online protagonist shows that they do care about people and are loyal. If Claude was in the doomsday heist he would have sided with Avon Hertz and help him destroy the world just because he would have paid more.
@@shadowninja14th2 Yes and no. Although yes Claude does show up in the character creator as an option... it's non canonical as non of the main 3d universe characters make an appearance. they're just there for fun... if not then we got a serous problem with a time machine if John Marston, a man that lived and died in the wild west... traveled forward through time past his own death to magically be your father. I kid.... but it's wild that they are even options.
For the doomsday heist, probably not considering avon does plan to betray you from the start. Actually, if gtao protagonist weren't already a well established crime lord by the time, they might also follow avon if he's hiring them, they really are very similar. Though considering avon's personality, there's no chance he won't betray us or claude
Claude is 100% BASED Also, Catalina actually loves CJ. Her interactions with men are screwed up because of the way her father treated her as a kid. But the fact that CJ doesn't just roll over to her, drives her crazy for him. Catalina doesn't actually respect Claude, especially because he doesn't care what she does or says. She actually likes criticism, especially from a man, because it shows that he cares. Her father clearly didn't care about her, which is why she grows up to "hate men", but really she just doesn't trust that any man will care about her. CJ doesn't really care about her, but he is a decent person who tries to give her advice to calm down, and at least plays along with the whole "Bonnie and Clyde" act Catalina was putting on. CJ really didn't have to sleep with Catalina at all, he didn't have to call her baby and suck up to her, he did it because he needed the money. Ceaser said nothing about his cousin looking for a lover. Yet CJ just kept up the act to satisfy Catalina, while at the same time giving her really good life advice. CJ was very nice to Catalina. (There is a line that Catalina says about how her father treated her, that clears up why she is the way she is)
@@misterpinkandyellow74 You clearly never interact with women bro. I am all for men's rights, I am a MGTOW man, but I really think you and all men like you need to get a girlfriend at least once in your life. Your brain is all jacked up because you have no practice. You need to ease up, and at least just talk to some women.
This “Claude is French that’s why he won’t talk” theory is actually not that far fetched. You counter it by saying that Claude understands everything he is told in English. But I can tell - speaking and understanding language is very different things. I say this as a person that actually has this problem. English is not my first language, but I read in English like it’s my native, watch shows and videos in English no problem, has no problem with writing (As you can see lol). But man I CAN’T talk. When I speak English it sounds like absolute gibberish no native speaker could understand. I guess Claude could have the same problem If he’s not American
This definitely could be the case. I have a hispanic friend who understands Spanish well but doesn't speak it at all like I never heard him speak a lick of spanish. He told me he sucks at speaking it. So this could definitely be the case with Claude. Plus I looked up his name on Google and it said it is a common French name
@@mr.andrew7820there's some people of French heritage in Louisiana. It's highly unlikely that Claude is from Quebec or France, but rather from the bayou. I had a teacher whose first name was Claude, though I don't know where he was from in the US.
3:30 Seeing this cutscene in 2024 actually makes me laugh, because having a plot of land in a middle of San Francisco near the train station would basically assure your and your kids financial stability for the rest of your life.
Claude even kills maria in the end just because she annoyed him. He probably the most cold blooded protagonist that does the job and doest ask questions for the right money.
Probably also for the fact that she just doesn't know when to shut her mouth at times. It was her fault that Salvatore ended up trying to kill Claude, and I think the ending was his own way of making sure that mistake would never happen again.
I follow the theory he didn't, the noise was the noise of a shotgun and we see none of that in cutscene and yk cutscene logic doesn't work like game logic and if he did it to just get to Catalina I mean why bother giving her money when he can just go and shoot up the place with all weapons? because Maria would die, her dialogue also still plays afterwards in chatterbox but I won't take it as evidence really either, I think him and Maria are living happily together rn or either just did free her as a payback for helping him when Salvatore almost killed her, even tho she's the reason.
@@vlamrcisco5838 Maria did all right. Salvatore abused her, treated her worse than crap, she wanted to leave him for good, she had enough. Of course he was mad, his toy and property wanted to leave him being tired of his abuse. Maria never hurt anyone. If only she had never met Salvatore, her life could be much better.
Yeah and it was basically a bucket of fuck all, nothing informative and was all just opinionated crap, everything he said cannot be backed up by facts and was just non stop bullshit claims
I always thought Claude turned Kenji into fender meat because Donald Love mentioned an opportunity that could potentially weaken Catalina's organization, making it easier to get his revenge on her.
I think its hard to think of a lore reason for it as its so clearly just a choice during game design. Back then, it was more common for protagonists to be silent, they still want to imagine the player as the character and your actions in the world, less on the protagonist being a character as well like they did in all the next GTAs.
Maybe the gta verse lore explains that he was a truly silent kid. Maybe he didn’t speak English growing up. Maybe he was Quebecois and understood English but not quite spoken English. French would’ve made him speak. Maybe being shot by Catalina did killed his larynx that he’s doomed to being only the silent one. He was more or less raised in Vespuccia and started being a hitman and then earned his San fierro garage only to lose the ownership to CJ. As Catalina joined his life and decided to journey a life of crime with her as she needs a tool for her crime waves and Claude needed someone of money and power to cling to. It seems that Claude and Catalina spent 9 years for their crime sprees. For their robberies and decided that the drug trade was more worthy money and power. And soon this caused the divide of Catalina and Claude and seeing Catalina being so greedy and more wise, she lores Claude in one more bank job and turns on Claude. Maybe the ghost town of liberty city is more of less an area of the city that exists somewhere else. But still. He got shot in the chest and that affected his way of communication personally and permanently. Maybe the short distance sprint is the result of him being shot in the larynx and that gave him breathing problems as well. But yeah. He’s a criminal sociopath who devolves into a psychopath as the story progresses. He was only loyal to the Leones for their work opportunity. But betrayal by the Leone family boss turned him more distant about who he’s loyal to and from that point on, he’s not loyal to his wellbeing and personal revenge against Catalina when he sees him. Truly the favors by the long term paid off and Catalina spooks at Claude’s radar and kills the 🐕 forever. And Maria being so annoying costed her life. And the shot by the background is Claude being a psychopath at the end.
Lore wise I'm not sure but development wise, I saw that on Twitter or X (I still call it Twitter), a dev that was part of the team said that they "had to cut something out of the game" so it was probably just easier to develop with the script they were working with so they ran with it.
Online Protagonist has morals. They showed emotions like doing a peace sign and high fiving other players happily. Doomsday Heist on otherhand, although the Online Protagonists were mute just like Claude, they felt guilty by not killing Bogdan after Bogdan explains to the protagonist that Avon Hertz is using them to kill him in order to conquer the world. So after hearing from Bogdan, the protagonist are now trying to stop Avon from destroying the world.
What’s scary about Claude is he only cares about money and is willing to do horrible things for it but he only spends money on things that help him with being a criminal there’s no end game for him he will continue to be a criminal for the rest of his life with other gta protagonists they stop when they have reached their goal
Another thing scary about Claude is how easy he can go into hiding and how hard it is for one to track him down. He can disappear more effectively than Niko and Dimitri or anyone in GTA. This is due to the fact that he has no loved ones, family, and friends. Claude also dosent have any henchman working for him and has no businesses or fronts.
@@ntrainr160thats a really good point. The guy has little to no presence anywhere at any time. Only the things he actually does cause any attention to get on him. Hes like a ghost though. He just appears and disappears for what he wants and you cant rely on him for anything. He has none of those typical weakness that almost anyone else has like you said. He just does it all for what? To keep being a criminal for fun? Thats what it seems like all things considered.
@ntrainr160 That's why he "saved Maria from Catalina", by taking revenge from the last one, and killing the first one who put him into a mess with Salvatore, and since Claude doesn't know Salvatore's experience with CJ betraying him, it was obvious he saw Maria as Liability. And let's be honest, if Catalina hadn't get bored of him and shot him dead, Claude would have done the same thing. The professional said it: Claude used Catalina for 9 years too for his own benefits.
*"He has no rules. No boundaries. He doesn't flinch at torture, human trafficking, or genocide. He's not loyal to a flag or country or any set of ideals. He trades blood for money."* - General Shepherd
Vladimir Makarov. He was so dangerous that he sparked world war 3. In the gta verse, even Makarov had years of military experience before joining Perseus with Bell as the master. And before joining Zakhaev. A self righteous leader of the ultranationalists. Bell only told Vladimir to join Zakhaev to see whether he can benefit his world dominating agenda or not. Because Zakhaev was a higher up position before the anti fascist revolutions of the late 1980s when the world blamed Draka for those Chernobyl style nuclear attacks on major US, Russian, and Brazilian cities. Claude would face his demise by a Forelli. Ironically the son of Sonny Forelli. Giovanni Forelli. After all. Claude’s story of revenge ended. And it seemed that he loved Catalina and because of her betrayal, he wanted her dead. But by then. What’s the point of living. So Giovanni only shot him to put him out of his misery.

Dear professional, Catalina is a sociopath for she is emotional violent, highly sensitive and she has a low functioning personality traits and disorder. Claude on the other hand might be a psychopath after all if he isn’t a sociopath. That aside, wonderful and amazing video you’ve made as always. Good job 💪🏼
I'd definitely agree Catalina is closer to a sociopath than a psychopath. While she is incredibly cunning, sociopaths can form attachments unlike psychopaths and often are volatile with emotional outbursts. Still, Professional does a great job with these videos
Not every sociopath and psychopath is the same. A few sociopaths are intelligent and organized while a few psychopaths are wreckless and prone to outbursts. Both sociopaths and psychopaths can come from abusive households. It’s just that psychopaths lack a component in their brain that allows them to feel empathy. Psychopaths won’t love anybody even if they wanted to. Claude and Cataline don’t love anybody or each other. It was a “business partnership” as one guy put it.
Trevor also aligns more with sociopathy than psychopathy despite being mislabeled as the latter - as he cares for some people as shown in the video but struggles with controlling his emotional outbursts. And despite being called a sociopath, Gary from Bully arguably aligns more with psychopathy.
Claude is also an option to be the online characters father in the character creator. In my opinion he is the cannon father of the Gta online protagonist. They both are mute and don't stop doing crime no matter the amount of money they make. Like father like son/daughter lol
The major problem with that canon theory is that John Martson can also be a "canon" father. But how can Martson be a father concerning the events of Red Dead?

Lost both parents at very young age, grew up in orphanages but was troubled, didn't get along with anyone, and never made any friends there. As soon as he got out, he turned to car theft and other criminal activities. After leaving the orphanages, he grew up in squats, abandoned buildings, or garages, always living alone or among homeless people and junkies, though he barely interacted with them. He never talked to anyone and never experienced anything resembling a home, as even in orphanages and juvenile detention centers, he was constantly transferred from one to another due to the problems caused by others or by himself. He never fit in anywhere. Crime had always been close to him; he never sought any other way to survive besides criminal activity. Thanks to specializing in car theft from a young age, he became an excellent driver early on. This skill led him to racing, another way of earning money. Through racing and selling stolen cars, he began meeting various gangsters. At first, he only stole cars for them, but eventually, they started giving him other tasks, including violent ones like extortion. Violence had always been second nature to him, shaped by the environment he grew up in. Then he met Catalina.
I think there is a misinterpretation of why CJ didn't say anything in front of Claude and Catalina. The truth is that from the moment he heard that she was moving to the other side of the country, he decided to accept and never see Catalina again. It's actually a comical moment, he gives up in a chill way very quickly giving the impression that it suits him. A good joke.
It's also worth noting that Claude never went after 8 ball despite him being the one to rig the car to try and kill Claude. Sure, he probably didn't know it was to kill Claude, i doubt he'd dumb enough to question the mafia and the leone certainly wouldn't tell him much aside from "rig this car". And if he smh knew, he didn't have a choice anyways, Sal would've killed him too if he refused. If Claude didn't Care for 8ball he would've killed him along with Sal. And ofc you have to remember that Claude chooses to help 8ball in the intro. You could argue that he did that to get his favors and because of his connections to the leone but there is zero proof that Claude knew that when he decided to save 8ball. Helping this man is one of the most selfless things Claude has ever done so I think this should not be swept aside
That, and Claude was with Catalina for 9 years. Prof says that it's just a relationship of convenience, and I believe that is the case on Catalina's side but there's absolutely no evidence that that's all it was for Claude.
@@nathanniesche6380 Catalina says it outloud when she betrays Claude so there's no doubt. For Claude, i'd Say it's up to interpretation. Altough I have to admit i've always liked the idea that Claude and Maria drove off into the sunset at the end of GTA III, left Liberty City with the money, getting away from all those ruined gangs that were After them, and that they settled down and lived a normal life as a couple, so to me Claude never loved Catalina and his one true love IS Maria. She also hooked him up with Asuka. So she kinda made up for it.
@matthewsmith3817 if Rockstar can change the pace from the typical on-rails story that would be a nice change of pace (not saying linear stories are bad, but it'd sure be different)
After having been betrayed three times (Catalina, Salvatore, and Maria (because her dumb ass is the reason Salvatore tried to whack him)) I'm guessing Claude has good reason to trust nobody and just do what gets him paid. I always thought he betrayed Kenji simply because Kenji yelled at him in that last mission he gives, and Claude was like ''alright, you're next, then''.
Salvatore was probably going to wack him anyway because he was no longer thinking rationally/was overly paranoid about everyone., it was the worst time to be working for him.
Well Kenji had reasons to reproach Claude because the Colombian cartel managed to steal the Yakuza's potential Business partner, so Claude failed on that mission.
I think Claude doesn’t speak simply because he doesn’t want to give any witness or recording a hint what he sounds like. His basic clothing and hairstyle can definitely make him hard to pinpoint when he’s in the public so mix that with his muteness he’s pretty much a phantom
The guy is like a ****ing ghost. He has a lot more personality than Jason though but surviving a double headshot is supernatural too. Claude is almost like an evil force of nature, rather than a human. If I didn't know any better I'd say he doesn't even eat or sleep.
I feel Michael knows Trevor have boundaries. He even attempted to reassure Jimmy he and Tracy are safe due to Trevor’s loyalty and love for the them as an uncle, something Jim cuts him off saying he is aware and more so worried for Michael’s safety and Trevor once again says he’s fine to an extent. Throughout the game michale isn’t so much afraid of his family or himself in harms way (if Trevor wanted to he’d be able to murder Michael) but Michale possibly knows Trevor wouldn’t personally kill M. Even in Trevor’s death, afterwards Michale mopes around saddened by Trevor’s death and even stops communicating with Franklin. TLDR: His monologue of Trevor with no boundaries is a personal mental cope he personified by speaking to Frank so he himself can rest as he did in his best friend.
I always felt like claudes theme was a perfect example of his persona like it perfectly captured his character like it perfectly showed how he was like he was in a way just ice cold
It will be interesting to see how in GTA 6 with Lucia and Jason if they have morals where one of them cares about the money but the other still wants to do the right thing and not be screwed over. In the trailer they said "The only way we can get through this is by trusting each other". I have a feeling that is going to test their relationship is it more about getting the most money or is it about valuing surivial and watching out for each other?
@mrmoviemanic1 I had a theory that Lucia is Catalina's daughter from another man. Like born late 90's so Lucia would be late 20's by 2025 But she gave it up for adoption because of her criminal lifestyle Should be multiple endings

You could call Claude a leach because he only respects the most powerful people but leaches are usually defenseless and Claude is a threat despite hoping from one power source to another.
He doesn't respect power? every thing the pro said is bullscrap. He is just twisting things up to fit his own narrative without any evidence ti back up his claim. Just because he greets people normally doesn't have any other significant meaning to anything, pro is just looking too deep and creating fake scenarios in his own head
It truly horrifies me that Claude basically is Dimitri Rascalov. How similar they are in the sense that they do not care about anybody and would happily stab you in the back if it means getting something better or if you are no longer useful to them. You feel for Claude at first getting betrayed by Catalina. But then he himself starts betraying nearly everybody he comes into contact with, no hesitation. Or shows complete indifference to anybody else or what happens to them.
Only difference is Dimitri needs someone to do the dirty work for him and minipulate them for his aurge at same time. While Claude does the dirty work and then passively minipulate others for his benefits.
@@MrTheinfoman Another difference is that its much easier for Claude to disappear since he dosent have anybody working for him, dosent answer to anyone, and dosent have an empire. Someone like Claude can basically go under the radar more than Dimitri. Claude is a lot harder to track door unlike Dimitri or Catalina. Claude can last a really long time.
@@MrTheinfoman One more difference is Claude will really only betray you if it benefits him. Dimitri is worse cause he'll betray for his own benefit, and because he legit enjoys it. God forbid he tries to kill you and you get away. Dimitri will chase you down for the rest of your life just like he did Niko. To me, Dimitri is the 2nd most ruthless and sick character in all of GTA. Number one is Eddie Low, that guy is animal that needs to put down .
Omfg stfu. Claude is nothing like that scumbag, just because he is silent and kills people who could care less about him anyways (also very hypocritical when every gta protagonist has done it) somehow makes him equal to dimitri
Claude probably wasn't a hired gun in 1992 there's really nothing suggesting that in SA and you got to remember that at this point he's just 21 so he's barely an adult. He's just a lost kid doing illegal races for a living R* did say that he was possibly a drifter from the west coast. So most likely this garage was both his safehouse and a place where he could fix and tune his car. He became an actual criminal during his 9 years with Catalina. He was defenetly the driver during the robberies : he's a skilled drifter and Catalina refuses/doesn't know how to drive because "that's what men are for" so that's why she picked him. Well that and also she wanted to make cj jaleous. Obviously since he was robbing banks he had to learn how to use a gun and kill, even if he was the driver. I guess it's possible he started doing other crimes on top of that (hired gunwork possibly, and drug dealing most defenetly since at one point they started working as associates with the Cartel, hence why they provided assitance during the Liberty City Bank heist)
Trevor did betray people, what are you talking about? He betrayed The Lost and Aztecas in his first mission! You could say “He was just using them” but that’s still a betrayal especially since they were bussiness partners. If you’re working with someone that you’re just using to get ahead, that’s still betrayal. It’s still bad on Trevor’s part if he was always gonna betray them anyway, that is still betrayal! Trevor ate a person, stole a military weapon for the Chinese(which would’ve gotten the group on the most wanted list all over the world!) and didn’t give a damn to tell Micheal and Franklin, killed military for making fun of Canada, killed hipsters for being hipsters, killed Wade’s friends just so he can control him, and Manipulated Ron into leaving his family! Tell me where his limit is? Doesn’t betray his friends? He sure as hell betrayed Wade and Ron!
Thank you 😂. Finally people who don't jump on the bandwagon that Trevor is better than Michael. I mean Michael is no saint but still way more safer and dependable than Trevor.
Yeah he’s huge, he’s always looking down on characters unless he is on lower ground like on the steps of Luigi’s club) Tommy Vercetti is tall as hell too, he’s like 6’4
Not only that Claude doesn't talk or cannot talk, but most characters don't even acknowledge that he doesn't talk. Carl and Maria aside, most characters don't think to have a chat with him; everytime they meet, they give him a job. He doesn't express his ideas, well, nobody asks him for such. They don't even ask for his name, and we're only knowing it in San Andreas! I guess my theory for his muteness is that, he's not a usual character, but is a player-insert. Y'know, there are games where the protagonist is literally you; a written protagonist doesn't exist. Kind of like, Need for Speed Most Wanted. Also, considering the GTA games before III, there was hardly any story, especially GTA 2. The protagonist doesn't care what he is told to, he just does it for respect and nothing else. And from GTA III's ending to GTA San Andreas (I'm not talking chronological here), the character of Claude started to develop significantly. In The Exchange, he went according to his own instructions, and in his later appearance we have some of his past and his name is revealed. I think the developers kept him to be mute despite this evolution, because one can't change the past; he's already mute in III and it's well known among the players. It has become a characteristic of Claude. So if he speaks in San Andreas, that feature is like, torn apart or something.

These are the kind of videos that deserve a million or more views. Such amazing details and in depth of a powerful GTA character and his story. Love your cosplay of Claude as well by the way !
Another thing I want to add that virtually everyone seems to forget... we don't even know if his name is really "Claude". That name was never mentioned in GTA 3 anywhere. In the game files he's referred to as "Player". The idea of him being named Claude was born out of the final phone call in San Andreas, and then connected to the protagonist of GTA 2. Catalina liked to continue calling CJ through the story just to piss him off, and judging by her scarce loyalty and insane personality I wouldn't put pass her having sex with someone other than her "small time" crime partner, or even faking an intercourse during the call to annoy CJ.
Claude is 35 by the time Grand Theft Auto III takes place in 2001 which indicates that he would be 1 year younger than the Grand Theft Auto San Andreas protagonist Carl Johnson
I am SO happy you did this video. Just clicked and I know I'm gonna love this video more than the Pegarino vid. I hope you do a video/character study on Aiden Pearce from Watch Dogs. Good character!
Great video and an interesting perspective for Claude, one of GTA's least talked about protagonists. I may not agree with every point you made about the character, but I can certainly understand your reasoning and it's rather sound. I'm interested in that Donald Love video you mention. I know Rockstar once said he realized he crossed too many lines and maybe went off to try and return to normal, I'd have to find that interview again.
Claude is also very dangerous is that there is much less leverage one can use against him compared to the other protagonists. He has no business, friends, family, or image that he wants to show. Claude can also easily go into hiding if he really wanted too because of this. Niko and Trevor are badasses in their own right but they can be kept in line by their bosses since there are things you can use against them as leverage.
I watched it all, we can replay GTA 3 under a new light with this one. Can't wait for a lore video on the Old Oriental Gentlenan and what he exactly does that we're not told.
I'm just five minutes into the video and I have to say, Claude's Staunton Island safehouse isn't exactly "abandoned". It's given to him by Asuka upon arriving to the island after nearly getting lured into Salvatore's trap. Also, in Liberty City Stories there's further proof this place belongs to the Yakuza. His Shoreside Vale safehouse though, that is indeed a mystery how he got it.
This was really nice lore video. There was also one GTA Protagonist from 3D universe that you forgot to mention Mike from GTA Advance, but unlike Claude he does has some humanity, and can care about other people like Asuka's niece Yuka Kasen. When it comes to Claude he might have been killed by a assassin from some powerful criminal organization just like it was the case with the original inspiration Claude Speed from GTA 2: The Movie live action trailer. Ps. You can do a lore video about the GTA 2: The Movie live action trailer that was filmed in New York.
Rockstar confirmed that he is alive in a special QeA in 2011 but where he is or what he is doing It's unkown, they also refused to elaborate the fates of Maria and Donald Love

I think Claude was meant to serve as the transitionary protagonist as GTA was undertaking the 3D era. If you think about it, him being a mute allows him to have somewhat of a blank slate for the player, but this video highlights that he does indeed also have his own personality underneath. By comparison, the previous 2D era of GTA had "characters" with absolutely no personality whatsoever, and were effectively complete blank slates for the player to cause arbitrary chaos. Claude parallels this, but still has more depth by having his own personality. It's an interesting in between of the 2D era protagonists versus a character like Tommy Vercetti from Vice City.
GTA 2 live action movie actually explains Claude character well. Also since it is believed this game took place in 2013, I think Claude eventually got finished off by the Zaibatsu for his treachery in the end.
I do think overall you can boil this down to Claude's character being the blankest slate for a person's go ham chaos playground in GTA. But I like to think a lot of his darker showcases are still a case of the devs knowing how to make the chaos of Claude feel nuanced to his character.
I don't think he is mute, because he still makes sounds when he dies. He probably too stubborn to even talk, since that's what French people do when someone talks them in English. Also Claude means ''free-willed'' person so it kinda fits him, although he is not really ''free'' but yes, he has own free will to do what he desires.
If it wasn’t for Asuka and Maria warning him about the bomb he would’ve died, they pretty much saved his life with that warning and he still turns his back on them without thinking twice which is cold
@@historyisthebestmyfans2094I understand and I’m not saying he should’ve been loyal, just a bit grateful that they saved him lol, asuka died and he didn’t even care, he just took the letter and left lol
@ Not to argue your point, I was just saying that Salvatore tinted his view that Asuka was trustworthy. It would been possible that Asuka would put a hit on Claude if she stayed alive and suspected that Cluade and not the Columbians killed her brother.
@20-V_C-20 no that was maria not asuka, asuka only used him to get rid of competition being Salvatore which in fact makes claudes life worse when navigating Portland anytime
My speculation for Claude's nationality is that he's German. The reason behind such assumption is one cheat code in GTA3: GESUNDHEIT, the health cheat. The word itself is a german word for wishing someone good health. And
Daaaamm, i just finished playing GTA3 for the first time last weekend in the defective edition with the classic lighting on and this video showed in my feed. That was one hell of a well made video. 👍🏻
Voice actor of Toni Cipriani said in an interview that he pronounced Cipriani wrong by mistake and nothing else. So, there is no meaning behind Claude reading his name wrong or anything
So Claude basically becomes Catalina - by betraying others to ‘move up’ and gain power. I find it interesting how he mimics the body language of the individual he’s trying to gain power/respect from.
No pro is just reading way too into it, he barley mimicks body language at all and even that itself means absolutely nothing and is basless speculative crap, also he never went out of his way to intentionally betray other scumbag criminals,
I don't really think CJ backed off from Claude, I think it was more he just felt this situation wasn't really worth the trouble. I think CJ would win if they fought
Professional. Time and time again you release these massive videos. The amount of hours poured into this is more than a 40 hour work week I am sure. You donated the proceeds from this to charity and this is something you do time and time again. As a marine I believe I can judge the character of a man through his actions. Some of the toughest hombres I know have gritted their teeth on a bad day and said "Forget this %$!& I don’t need this extra school." They'll keep going and earn that patch though. Words don’t mean too much to me. You are a hero my friend. Through your actions, in your own way, you contribute to the betterment of the world. That makes you a hero in my eyes. Keep up the good work. Semper Fi.
16:47 I don't think CJ was afraid of Claude at all. I think he felt it wasn't worth getting into a fight with those two. Because he already beat Claude in that race, and just wanted to get paid. He had nothing to prove. I feel CJ could have probably easily defeated Claude at that point in the game if a fight broke out because, of all of his past experience in the gang wars between Grove Street, Ballas, Russians, Vagos etc. You have to remember Carl deleted so many people at this point. Claude might be a walk in the park.
As for someone who sees GTA III as their favorite game of all time, thank you for making this video. This was very enjoyable, and after so many times of replaying that game, i still found some parts of this video informative and sparking some new theories. Reason i enjoy Claude because of his simplicity and mystery that people can still talk about him. Great job dude!
9:39 Just realised Pro question also invites another question which also indirectly provides and insight into what type of man/psyche Claude has: _What type of life was he living to meet and connect with someone as unhinged as Catalina that quickly between the time she and CJ breakup?_
Actually....Rockstar explained in one of their interviews little after the game was released back in 01. They purposely didn't want Claude to talk so thst the player could feel as if it were them in the back. If they would have gave Claude a voice they would have to give him a personality which would take away the feeling that youre Claude. It was in an IGN magazine
I would think that killing Kenji while his mission strand was open was more or less an oversight on Rockstar's part. I remember also reading somewhere that the gunshot in the credits was kind of an error that the creators made. The same could be said that Claude's character was supposed to represent the player. Hell, he didn't have a name until it was revealed in San Andreas.

Claude is 100% BASED
Also, Catalina actually loves CJ.

I always thought Claude turned Kenji into fender meat because Donald Love mentioned an opportunity that could potentially weaken Catalina's organization, making it easier to get his revenge on her.
Given how short a distance he sprints, I’d imagine he lost his larynx from cancer due to smoking a whole carton of cigarettes every 10 minutes
I think its hard to think of a lore reason for it as its so clearly just a choice during game design. Back then, it was more common for protagonists to be silent, they still want to imagine the player as the character and your actions in the world, less on the protagonist being a character as well like they did in all the next GTAs.
He was the quiet kid
😂
Lore wise I'm not sure but development wise, I saw that on Twitter or X (I still call it Twitter), a dev that was part of the team said that they "had to cut something out of the game" so it was probably just easier to develop with the script they were working with so they ran with it.

She was honestly pretty cute in III, I quite liked her when I played the game as a kid. It's really GTA SA and LCS that "retconned" her Sweet naïve, clumsy "innocent" idiot personality to something more crude and promiscuous...

I agree that he was pissed at her for ruining his chances With the Leone but she also decided to save his life, at the cost of abandoning her luxurious gold digger lifestyle and becoming an ennemy of the Leone when she could've just left Claude to die and kept living off Sal's riches. She also hooked him up with Asuka.
So she kinda made up for it.
Claude is 100% a killing machine, the perfect hitman. Id hope to see him in a actual HD sequel as some boogeyman you can do a job for or get hunted by
@matthewsmith3817 if Rockstar can change the pace from the typical on-rails story that would be a nice change of pace (not saying linear stories are bad, but it'd sure be different)
It’s great to see such an analysis on a character like Claude. Keep up the great work Patrick, have a great day and a great week. Take care!
After having been betrayed three times (Catalina, Salvatore, and Maria (because her dumb ass is the reason Salvatore tried to whack him)) I'm guessing Claude has good reason to trust nobody and just do what gets him paid. I always thought he betrayed Kenji simply because Kenji yelled at him in that last mission he gives, and Claude was like ''alright, you're next, then''.
id love to hear claudes thoughts during the cutscenes
Salvatore was probably going to wack him anyway because he was no longer thinking rationally/was overly paranoid about everyone., it was the worst time to be working for him.
Well Kenji had reasons to reproach Claude because the Colombian cartel managed to steal the Yakuza's potential Business partner, so Claude failed on that mission.
@RoyalRipper548 no he did exactly what kenji told him to do, kenji was just being an arrogant turd
That monologue goes well with Claude tho.
"There was a girl I knew she said she cared about me... She tried to make my world the way she thought it should be." Tom Petty
I feel like in a weird way Jason and Lucia are Claude and Catalina's spiritual successors.
@mrmoviemanic1 I had a theory that Lucia is Catalina's daughter from another man.
Like born late 90's so Lucia would be late 20's by 2025
But she gave it up for adoption because of her criminal lifestyle

Number one is Eddie Low, that guy is animal that needs to put down
.
Omfg stfu. Claude is nothing like that scumbag, just because he is silent and kills people who could care less about him anyways (also very hypocritical when every gta protagonist has done it) somehow makes him equal to dimitri
The only people Claude actually betrays are the Yakuza. The Italian Mob and Yardies stabbed him in the back, not the other way around
Claude probably wasn't a hired gun in 1992 there's really nothing suggesting that in SA and you got to remember that at this point he's just 21 so he's barely an adult. He's just a lost kid doing illegal races for a living
R* did say that he was possibly a drifter from the west coast.
Fun fact: the guy who voiced Donald love played Hank Maclean in the Fallout show Lucy's Dad
Trevor would despise Claude lmao

Dude your lore videos are the best on RUclips and I think everyone agrees with this 🎉
I was desperately waiting for this one
This video did him justice. Great work as always with as much effort you put into these.
Great video, I really liked how you compared claude to other GTA characters. Most definitely looking foward to the next one.
damn, never been this early to hop on TheProfessional vid
Claude is 35 by the time Grand Theft Auto III takes place in 2001 which indicates that he would be 1 year younger than the Grand Theft Auto San Andreas protagonist Carl Johnson
Oh we eating GOOD today. A TWO HOUR Professional video on Claude?? HELL YEAH BRO.

Another possible theory for Claude's silence is that he probably has some severe trauma, possibly as a kid
Or talking will land you in jail with the police.
Claude can talk, but I think it's more to keep the police off his back.
I am SO happy you did this video. Just clicked and I know I'm gonna love this video more than the Pegarino vid. I hope you do a video/character study on Aiden Pearce from Watch Dogs. Good character!
i really didn't think there was any depth to him, thought he was only driven by money. this'll be a good watch :)
A 2 hour video? Well if it's from The Professional then i'd gladly watch it. No clickbaits or rage baits

It’s said that he was killed by Giovanni Forelli. Son of Sonny Forelli. From the formerly powerful Forelli mob family. Remnants of the forellis have taken advantage of the power vacuum of the Leone family left by Sal’s death. Giovanni really wanted Tommy Vercetti’s head. His long term end goal
Also Mike from gta advance at least got out of the country and left the criminal life.

Just realised Pro question also invites another question which also indirectly provides and insight into what type of man/psyche Claude has:
_What type of life was he living to meet and connect with someone as unhinged as Catalina that quickly between the time she and CJ breakup?_
