I'll share my theory. First, it's inspired by the myth of Pygmalion. To understand the MV properly, we need to start from a detail revealed in the last sequence: Taehyung himself (the happy one who parties and has the moments with the lady) is a statue himself. It is revealed when he finds himself face to face with the real Taehyung (the sculptor, the creator, black jacket), remembers seeing a statue with his own features (the veiled one) and touches behind his ear to find the scar/mark of the sculptor. He doesn't know until then though. Keeping this in mind, we go back looking at the MV. It opens with him wearing white same as all the others who will come later. He creates sculptures of others to fill his loneliness and is shocked, elated and fascinated when the lady comes to life. He does all the things he wants, playing with her, slow dancing- basically finding happiness in his dreams and imaginations. But if you pay attention, he is aware that it's only an illusion. When he looks at her sleeping, his hand hovers above her neck behind her ear, but doesn't touch. He knows she's a statue, but he also doesn't want to shatter his illusion and go back to being alone. Then, other people appear. Other statues that came to life. And for a while, everything seems happy and fun. But then he realises that something isn't right. The lady isn't always there when he looks for her, and the people partying move from being happy to being mocking and scary. And then they run away/disappear and he finds himself facing an obviously affection-starved and tortured artist who looks just like him. (My theory about the blood and injures is that he hurt himself while destroying all the other statues - when they disappeared from the dancing scene it was because the sculptor was destroying them). Facing him, Tae remembers the veiled bust (himself) and finally touches behind his ear, finding the mark. That's the moment when he realises that although he knew that everything he lived was made up by his imagination, he himself doesn't exist. He's only a sculpture. And the last one left. Although he could try, he doesn't run away. The scene of him smiling wobbly with the tear streaming down his face is a masterpiece of surrender for the happiness of his creator. He accepts to be destroyed so that the sculptor can finally find some peace. The pieces of the statue under the final writing "Winter Ahead" have Tae's features, and there was also another frame previously with that. The theatre is a way to show how it all is a fleeting illusion, a play. The him in the flower white cardigan who has to stop at the border of the garden can be explained better by this tweet: "In the end, it's just like hotel California by the Eagles: you can check out anytime you like but you can never leave. The sculptor Taehyung was looking for himself. Throughout the whole house he looked. Until he found his "innocence" the part of himself willing to be fooled." Taehyung truly has a penchant for beautiful, tragic stories, and with this one, he outdid himself imo.
@@karensinclair5035 to be honest, when BH issued the press release and mentioned the Pygmalion inspiration, it was already a huge help to frame the situation. However, my initial idea from the trailer was more towards a new evolution of the Jung theory and Map Of The Soul, more specifically Anima/Animus, where Anima is the female unconscious of a male person. The whole MV was even more complex, but it still somehow fits. Adding it to Jimin’s Like Crazy and Namjoon’s Come Back to Me made me wonder if they are hinting at their chapter 3 somehow. Of course, it could also be a big coincidence (but we know those are rare in Bora world. In the end, this MV was recorded in 2022.)

My initial thought was that as the song was written during the COVID era/lockdown Tae was showing us the emptiness he felt, how the theatre was empty, how he misses performing, how the people disappeared, how even though he was surrounded by beauty, that house, he couldn’t leave it, how dark he felt, how he cried and was then happy to see the darkness (him in black) being destroyed. All the things he experienced. Or then again, it’s just have showing us how he felt inside during his blue and grey days. Lonely, lost, deserted and confused 🫤 You can never expect the ordinary from the exquisite mind of Kim Taehyung. Artist extraordinaire 💜😎💪🫡🐯🐻
V also faced himself at the end of Friends. I can’t help but think he is expressing the dichotomy of V the idol, and V the man. As an idol he is beholding to his company, fans, critics and public. Freedom has been lost. There is loneliness in this state, even while amongst the admirers. But the V inside, the”real” V, wants true love, laughter, normalcy, authenticity and freedom. The part where he faces himself in this MV shows distain, loss, and finally resolve. Y has sculpted his life as it is as an idol, but there is some regret, if only momentarily, that it was at the expense of V the man. The acting was stunning!
I do tend to think that the V in shimmery top in outdoor fields setting is the "free" V, where he enjoys the music that he likes, there is lightness and he shines.
It feels like an allegory, to me. The living statue of himself is V, the persona who is created, 'sculpted'; the performer you see on stage. Since debut fans have described Taehyung as looking so perfect he's like a greek statue, someone 'too beautiful for this world', with the constant question 'is he real?' In the statue's world he has the perfect life, with the most beautiful girl who is also created, sculpted; the perfect romance. None of it is real. Taehyung coming back at the end is the allegory; he's injured, representing the damage fame, and the constant attacks of those who say he is nothing more than a pretty face have inflicted on the real person he is. Damaged, injured Taehyung walking through the door and smiling at the sculpted persona of V is his way of telling us the real Kim Taehyung is the winner, he knows who he is, and has survived. The tears of sculpted V represent the realisation of the pain he's suffered in the artificial world of manufactured fame. It's difficult not to think that he's also moralising on how k-pop, and the brutal, regimented control of its teen rookies and artists creates these living 'statues' to fit an unreal world; and after HYBE have just had to apologise for the mistreatment Taehyung's had from his own agency it's even more relevant now. EDIT just to add: Taehyung is known as the 'social butterfly' of Kpop, and I think the red butterfly in the shop window represents V trapped, in a glass cage, where he can't escape from the eyes of the world ~ and the reason Taehyung wears the red jacket with the glitter as the 'butterfly'.

The two things that got me was his shock when the statue came to life and at the end, when he was crying because he realized he wasn't the creator but the created.
he broke his own bust because he cant stand to look at his own face, he cant handle his own loneliness. he's used to watch and being watched but cant quite face the pain in his own heart, in his face. He tries to but he knows he's failing, that something is missing in his life and in his approach towards himself. he cant face his own creation despite it being a pure reflection of himself and the longing makes him yearn for people that arent even there, who might not even exist. this reaches a peak when he makes a body for the girl so that she's not just a bust but a full body. imagination is rich and powerful and wonderful but at some point it ceases to be enough and you gotta face reality for what it is... you gotta look at yourself, you gotta face yourself, you gotta look at your broken self. sometimes broken by your own devise. because the only creation you actually neglected was actually the most neglected one was yourself. At first I was like did he think of making a woman and ended up making a copy of himself? But then I watched a few more times and no. He made both but the work that is closest to a real person not just in resemblance but as a being is the one he neglected and broke. When everything else failed his broken reflection caught up with him. The bust he hated was the one of a real, existing person, and that person was himself, whereas all his other works were about idealized ppl he wish made him company. it's like what SUGA says in shadow: "Yeah I'm you, you are me, now do you know Yeah you are me, I'm you, now you do know We are one body, sometimes we will clash You can never break me off, this you must know Yeah yeah can't break me off, whatever you do Yeah you'll be at ease if you admit it too Yeah succeed or fail, whichever way you flow Yeah you can't escape, wherever you go" you who made me in your spitting image neglect me, abandon me, break me, you hate me.... because you know that looking at me is the same as looking at yourself. what does that say about you? all his videos and most of his songs show longing and deep feelings and yearning and loneliness... and him have to face that no matter what, everything is fleeting. he only has himself when push comes to shove. he has to take care of himself... face himself... love himself

V is deinitely an old soul that's beautiull. Love this song! I picture it as Tae creating V, the persona. Him walking and dancing by himself, in the theater (the performer), walking with a teddy bear (the child in him) the dancing crowd (those who influenced him).. And in the end, he discovers "paradise" when he finally sees his creation of V and somewhat accepts it that it's definitely a part of him. Still just my thought. Winter is Tae's favorite season and, through it all, when winter comes, he still feels warmth even in the cold because he knows he will always have his creation with him. his creation is "dark" because of all the trials and pain" he as endured. He broke the record for the biggest jazz debut in the history of Spotify, surpassing the feat achieved by Laufey. “Winter Ahead “ also topped 75+ countries worldwide within 24 hrs of release. Now it’s up to 82. All this for a slow song , with no promotion at all outside of Korea , with only 1 week notice before the song dropped, only one week when preorders was announced and no other several versions or remixes for more streaming .
I have the impression that not many k-pop idols dare to go against the grain. V is one who is bold enough to express his true passion regardless of commercial consequence. RM is also one, exploring a different type of music. I think in the long term, these are the artists who's careers will endure and have longevity.
@@VC-hg6he YUP! I so agree with you. Tae has a very unique style that is not common at all in KPOP, RM too has a music/sound style that's different from what you see in KPOP. Tae's is more of the old fashion, elegant, Old world , Refined style who's songs and MV's make people create and think of stories or theories about his song/MV. There's an air of mystery and wonder to it. While RM is more old school bronx type hiphop vibe and some mixture of genres. His style of lyricism (like Suga) is more direct. No sense of mystery because you know right away what he's singing about.. So yes, most definitely RM as well. Indigo is actually my 2nd favorite Album after Layover. His RPWP Album was named by the Rolling Stone as the Best Korean Album of 2024!
I've said this in other reactions. There is a lot of similarities to the Slow Dancing MV. He creates an imaginary world because he is longing for love and companionship. The red butterfly is almost exactly the same as the transparent butterfly in SD and I'm sure this is not a coincidence, knowing Tae. My sense is that since 2022 to the Layover album to Fri(end)s, he is making a distinction between the character V and the person Kim Taehyung.

Well said, personally I think the company is scared of him, won’t encourage him, because if he actually uses his talents for himself he will leave BTS and become successful on his own, he is so far away from K-pop already. I loved that you picked up on the frames where V is wearing the shimmery top. Most ignored those frames but I think they are significant. Most of the scenes related to it seem to show V enjoying a certain melody, which may represent his true love for a different genre of music.
I absolutely think this is about the artist V vs. the man Tae. I think there is loneliness, isolation, transformation, and acceptance. A couple of things that stood out... the RED butterfly is significant to Tae personally. He has told us he needs "more fire" because he just has water in his charts. Since then, he changed his mic color to red and has dropped his signature green. Also, just saying, there are only rainbow highlights around him in the party scene at night. No one else and it shows up 3 or 4 times. Anyone wh is keeping up with Tae may pick up on the significance in that. Don't know if it means anything but the candles are pink and blue and they are featured a few times. I really do believe there is a lot of both pain and joy in the creation of the persona of V. He has mentioned it many times. V and Kim Taehyung are not the same

My take is the Black Jacket Tae is the real sculptor and sculptured the Red jacket Tae and Everyone in white. The Red Jacket Tae came to life and enjoyed his life (as described in Pygmalion). but at the end he cries looking at Black Jacket Tae as he realizes everything is an illusion. And that as the statue Red Jacket Tae is confined to the grounds of the mansion and as the illusion cannot leave as demonstrated when Tae walked to the gate and could not go through it. To me (and I could be wrong) not going through the gate signifies that something or someone is holding him back from moving forward.
Consider this. Roscoe is right. He does break through. He puts on that shiny sparking shirt to light up his path as he forges to the winter ahead. Please read my theory in the comments above. I do agree with your theory until the very end. Bravo. You are highly intelligent and perceptive!
@@ideagirl As an illusion there is no substance to pass through the gate. As far as the other items., those could have been projected memories by the Black Jacket Tae. Because we do not know how the sculpture came to life and the tears of realization could be from now finding out that I’m not a real person. This is based on the mythical Greek story of Pygmalion who was a sculptor. He actually detested women, but when he sculpted a statue of a woman who was pretty & lifelike he fell in love with her. Aphrodite the Goddess of love turned the statue real because she saw how Pygmalion truly loved her. The twist in this MV is in the end. V(red jacket) realized he was also a statue turned to life by the real creator V (black jacket). Hence the tears by V in the end. Beautiful acting by V, I believe Korean directors will be clamoring for him when he gets discharged. Some people get confused when Park Hyo Shin starts singing but if you watch the MV that Hybe just released yesterday where V & Park are in a restaurant sitting across each other & singing the song. Their voices blend so well together, Hyo Shin has a background in musical theatre so he was a good fit for this song. These 2 are good friends in real life, they have sung a duet before, have guested together as guest DJ's on a popular Korean radio station. V even guested on one of Hyo Shin 's concerts where they danced to V's song "Slow Dancing". All of these can be found on YT.
The VU by Tae. V made this MV in 20,22 so he knew the storyline and he put Easter eggs and hence in his songs since then. Like multiple V’s and a virtual world in ‘slow dancing’. In Ffri(end)s, he also gave two parallel universes with the inception moment at the end of the MV with the two V’s meeting, just like in winter ahead. Also V when he made the ‘Winter Bear’ MV, he was inspired by the movie ‘About Time’, where he wished he could go back in time. He’s actually making his own VU and he’s doing it in such a clever way by making a storyline in 2022 (winter ahead), waiting until 2024 to drop it and in the meantime seeding is MV’s with Easter eggs and hints. He gave us multiple V’s in ‘slow dancing’ with a virtual world. Followed this up with two parallel universes in ‘Fri(end)s where we get the inception moment at the end of V and Tae coming face to face and now we get the V and Tae’s, again in two ‘universes’ in ‘winter ahead. To me it’s so creative that the other MV’s were puzzling and thought provoking but are answered now with this MV. V really does inspire critical thinking with his thought provoking art.

Dark V’s blood from his head shows he’s the creator, he’s the human vs everyone else was a sculpture (they can’t bleed).Light V’s smirk at the end kinda reminds me of the Twilight Zone “The After Hours” episode ending where the lady in the dept store surrounded by all these mannequins remembers her time living as a human is up and she is actually a mannequin.

So many scenes in this mv has references to his other songs and BTS MVs like blackswan, ON, winter bear, slow dancing even!(Does that make sense?, because this could be before slow dancing, but knowing Tae, he could have planned everything out!) and I think it has references to some of the photoshoots he have done, basically his whole career and life, may be Then as you said something like anticipatory loneliness ahead(I don't know why) but it seems like that, he is going into some unknown winter night, may be the name winter ahead! Winter is said to be the difficult month, but something some people love, eg, Tae. May be he is really anticipating the winter ahead, but it does not mean it isn't difficult or lonely. But the mood of winter changes with someone by your side, it becomes warm and lovely. I hope Tae's life ahead is warm and full of happiness and love He's such an amazing artist and a person.

The scenes where V wear the shimmery white top are also shot outdoors. V love nature, but it can also mean he is putting himself and his love for jazz music out there, regardless of outcome or how some fans may react or dislike it. Freeing himself by being true to himself. The theater scenes may be a contrast, where he watches himself performing what the people in the kpop world expect of idols.
The butterfly is a symbol of transformation, rebirth and personal growth. V is experiencing all three in his life and career. Also, the scene with him alone in the audience and on stage makes me believe that he sometimes feels this way in regards to his company, HYBE, and how it doesn't support him as well as it should.
I would not overthink on the last part about Hybe, please just avoid that for respect of the artist: just the solitude of the artist when the audience is not there, you see him alone in the theatre as well . At the end of the day, the theatre is empty and he is alone. The duality between V, the stage persona and Kim Taehyung the real artist and composer.

It says a lot about the humility and self-confidence of V (as well as his deep admiration for his sunbae) that he would allow himself to be heard up against the superior vocals of Park Hyo Shin. But it makes sense because my takeaway is that V sees parallels in PHS' own history of self-discovery as an artist (the glitter jacket and the MJ red jacket are not accidents, imo - PHS used exactly the same imagery). (Note also the similarity of the French provincial house with the one PHS & Jung Jae Il stayed and co-composed in for the series "Your Song".) The sculpture with his mark ‘V’ on the rear represents the image of himself that he helped create and for which he has developed an almost Narcissus-esqe affection. But it is deliberately of the opposite sex, inherently untrue to himself. This is a very brave move, I believe, on V's part. Some may feel that with his huge fanbase he has the comfort of thinking many fans will follow him wherever he chooses to go, but that is not always certain, especially when this crooning style and song choice (beautifully co-composed by V, PHS, Hyesung, Jesse Harris & Waizmin) is so distant from the music of his idol group years. Standing alone on the stage facing an empty auditorium, V can't help but wonder if there will indeed be an audience for his own music as he envisages it. He knows, from the final encounter with the darker version of himself, that with any rebirth as an artist there has to be a death of some sort as well. His smile at the end tells me he is ready for it.

The fact that he is able to put together a 6 minute film that relies on his voice and facial expressions to tell a story that can have so many interpretations is fascinating to me. I'll share my theory.
First, it's inspired by the myth of Pygmalion.
To understand the MV properly, we need to start from a detail revealed in the last sequence: Taehyung himself (the happy one who parties and has the moments with the lady) is a statue himself. It is revealed when he finds himself face to face with the real Taehyung (the sculptor, the creator, black jacket), remembers seeing a statue with his own features (the veiled one) and touches behind his ear to find the scar/mark of the sculptor. He doesn't know until then though.
Keeping this in mind, we go back looking at the MV. It opens with him wearing white same as all the others who will come later. He creates sculptures of others to fill his loneliness and is shocked, elated and fascinated when the lady comes to life. He does all the things he wants, playing with her, slow dancing- basically finding happiness in his dreams and imaginations.
But if you pay attention, he is aware that it's only an illusion. When he looks at her sleeping, his hand hovers above her neck behind her ear, but doesn't touch. He knows she's a statue, but he also doesn't want to shatter his illusion and go back to being alone.
Then, other people appear. Other statues that came to life. And for a while, everything seems happy and fun. But then he realises that something isn't right. The lady isn't always there when he looks for her, and the people partying move from being happy to being mocking and scary.
And then they run away/disappear and he finds himself facing an obviously affection-starved and tortured artist who looks just like him.
(My theory about the blood and injures is that he hurt himself while destroying all the other statues - when they disappeared from the dancing scene it was because the sculptor was destroying them).
Facing him, Tae remembers the veiled bust (himself) and finally touches behind his ear, finding the mark. That's the moment when he realises that although he knew that everything he lived was made up by his imagination, he himself doesn't exist. He's only a sculpture.
And the last one left.
Although he could try, he doesn't run away. The scene of him smiling wobbly with the tear streaming down his face is a masterpiece of surrender for the happiness of his creator. He accepts to be destroyed so that the sculptor can finally find some peace.
The pieces of the statue under the final writing "Winter Ahead" have Tae's features, and there was also another frame previously with that.
The theatre is a way to show how it all is a fleeting illusion, a play. The him in the flower white cardigan who has to stop at the border of the garden can be explained better by this tweet:
"In the end, it's just like hotel California by the Eagles: you can check out anytime you like but you can never leave. The sculptor Taehyung was looking for himself. Throughout the whole house he looked. Until he found his "innocence" the part of himself willing to be fooled."
Taehyung truly has a penchant for beautiful, tragic stories, and with this one, he outdid himself imo.

@@karensinclair5035 to be honest, when BH issued the press release and mentioned the Pygmalion inspiration, it was already a huge help to frame the situation. However, my initial idea from the trailer was more towards a new evolution of the Jung theory and Map Of The Soul, more specifically Anima/Animus, where Anima is the female unconscious of a male person. The whole MV was even more complex, but it still somehow fits. Adding it to Jimin’s Like Crazy and Namjoon’s Come Back to Me made me wonder if they are hinting at their chapter 3 somehow. Of course, it could also be a big coincidence (but we know those are rare in Bora world. In the end, this MV was recorded in 2022.)

My initial thought was that as the song was written during the COVID era/lockdown Tae was showing us the emptiness he felt, how the theatre was empty, how he misses performing, how the people disappeared, how even though he was surrounded by beauty, that house, he couldn’t leave it, how dark he felt, how he cried and was then happy to see the darkness (him in black) being destroyed. All the things he experienced. Or then again, it’s just have showing us how he felt inside during his blue and grey days. Lonely, lost, deserted and confused 🫤 You can never expect the ordinary from the exquisite mind of Kim Taehyung. Artist extraordinaire 💜😎💪🫡🐯🐻

V also faced himself at the end of Friends. I can’t help but think he is expressing the dichotomy of V the idol, and V the man. As an idol he is beholding to his company, fans, critics and public. Freedom has been lost. There is loneliness in this state, even while amongst the admirers. But the V inside, the”real” V, wants true love, laughter, normalcy, authenticity and freedom. The part where he faces himself in this MV shows distain, loss, and finally resolve. Y has sculpted his life as it is as an idol, but there is some regret, if only momentarily, that it was at the expense of V the man. The acting was stunning!
I do tend to think that the V in shimmery top in outdoor fields setting is the "free" V, where he enjoys the music that he likes, there is lightness and he shines.
It feels like an allegory, to me. The living statue of himself is V, the persona who is created, 'sculpted'; the performer you see on stage. Since debut fans have described Taehyung as looking so perfect he's like a greek statue, someone 'too beautiful for this world', with the constant question 'is he real?' In the statue's world he has the perfect life, with the most beautiful girl who is also created, sculpted; the perfect romance. None of it is real.
Taehyung coming back at the end is the allegory; he's injured, representing the damage fame, and the constant attacks of those who say he is nothing more than a pretty face have inflicted on the real person he is. Damaged, injured Taehyung walking through the door and smiling at the sculpted persona of V is his way of telling us the real Kim Taehyung is the winner, he knows who he is, and has survived. The tears of sculpted V represent the realisation of the pain he's suffered in the artificial world of manufactured fame.
It's difficult not to think that he's also moralising on how k-pop, and the brutal, regimented control of its teen rookies and artists creates these living 'statues' to fit an unreal world; and after HYBE have just had to apologise for the mistreatment Taehyung's had from his own agency it's even more relevant now.
EDIT just to add: Taehyung is known as the 'social butterfly' of Kpop, and I think the red butterfly in the shop window represents V trapped, in a glass cage, where he can't escape from the eyes of the world ~ and the reason Taehyung wears the red jacket with the glitter as the 'butterfly'.

And this is why V is my ultimate forever bias!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ It is based on the Greek story of Pygmalion, with V's twist at the end. The two things that got me was his shock when the statue came to life and at the end, when he was crying because he realized he wasn't the creator but the created.
he broke his own bust because he cant stand to look at his own face, he cant handle his own loneliness. he's used to watch and being watched but cant quite face the pain in his own heart, in his face. He tries to but he knows he's failing, that something is missing in his life and in his approach towards himself. he cant face his own creation despite it being a pure reflection of himself
and the longing makes him yearn for people that arent even there, who might not even exist. this reaches a peak when he makes a body for the girl so that she's not just a bust but a full body.
imagination is rich and powerful and wonderful but at some point it ceases to be enough and you gotta face reality for what it is... you gotta look at yourself, you gotta face yourself, you gotta look at your broken self. sometimes broken by your own devise. because the only creation you actually neglected was actually the most neglected one was yourself. At first I was like did he think of making a woman and ended up making a copy of himself? But then I watched a few more times and no. He made both but the work that is closest to a real person not just in resemblance but as a being is the one he neglected and broke. When everything else failed his broken reflection caught up with him. The bust he hated was the one of a real, existing person, and that person was himself, whereas all his other works were about idealized ppl he wish made him company. it's like what SUGA says in shadow:

V is deinitely an old soul that's beautiull. Love this song! I picture it as Tae creating V, the persona. Him walking and dancing by himself, in the theater (the performer), walking with a teddy bear (the child in him) the dancing crowd (those who influenced him).. And in the end, he discovers "paradise" when he finally sees his creation of V and somewhat accepts it that it's definitely a part of him. Still just my thought. Winter is Tae's favorite season and, through it all, when winter comes, he still feels warmth even in the cold because he knows he will always have his creation with him. his creation is "dark" because of all the trials and pain" he as endured. So the girl is also a part of him, his many facets of his persona. Truly a masterpiece! You should check out the mv sketch! See V directing.

I have the impression that not many k-pop idols dare to go against the grain. V is one who is bold enough to express his true passion regardless of commercial consequence. RM is also one, exploring a different type of music. I think in the long term, these are the artists who's careers will endure and have longevity.

YUP! I so agree with you. Tae has a very unique style that is not common at all in KPOP, RM too has a music/sound style that's different from what you see in KPOP.
Tae's is more of the old fashion, elegant, Old world , Refined style who's songs and MV's make people create and think of stories or theories about his song/MV. There's an air of mystery and wonder to it.
While RM is more old school bronx type hiphop vibe and some mixture of genres. His style of lyricism (like Suga) is more direct. No sense of mystery because you know right away what he's singing about.. So yes, most definitely RM as well.

I've said this in other reactions. There is a lot of similarities to the Slow Dancing MV. He creates an imaginary world because he is longing for love and companionship. The red butterfly is almost exactly the same as the transparent butterfly in SD and I'm sure this is not a coincidence, knowing Tae. My sense is that since 2022 to the Layover album to Fri(end)s, he is making a distinction between the character V and the person Kim Taehyung.

Well said, personally I think the company is scared of him, won’t encourage him, because if he actually uses his talents for himself he will leave BTS and become successful on his own, he is so far away from K-pop already. He has depth. Let’s remember he was hidden in the beginning because they wanted to keep him as a secret weapon. Now he is a weapon that could bring down their cash cow.

Talking of lights and flashes, when that light dazzled him, I thought, Ghod, don't tell me he's gonna get run over again! His voice is ... my luxurious warm bath. Love the way you drilled into the mv, your theories and projections. I would add that from their early BU work Taehyung has always been the best at expressing duality - remember BS & T where he portrayed both innocence and then the fallen angel. His voice blends so well with Park Hyo Shin, they carry off the Dean Martin/Sinatra vibes so well. Talking of the 2022 FESTA, that dinner is the full stop to their time of living together - they moved out of their dorm and into their own homes and then they launched their solo projects. The images in this mv could also be Taehyung's way of coming to terms with all those changes in their lives. But wait, another mv is coming so more layers of the onion to be revealed! V releasing 2 mysterious teasers and 2 different MVs for Winter Ahead is so brilliant in hyping up and in appreciating the song in different ways.
I loved that you picked up on the frames where V is wearing the shimmery top. Most ignored those frames but I think they are significant. Most of the scenes related to it seem to show V enjoying a certain melody, which may represent his true love for a different genre of music.
I absolutely think this is about the artist V vs. the man Tae. I think there is loneliness, isolation, transformation, and acceptance. A couple of things that stood out... the RED butterfly is significant to Tae personally. He has told us he needs "more fire" because he just has water in his charts. Since then, he changed his mic color to red and has dropped his signature green. Also, just saying, there are only rainbow highlights around him in the party scene at night. No one else and it shows up 3 or 4 times. Anyone wh is keeping up with Tae may pick up on the significance in that. Don't know if it means anything but the candles are pink and blue and they are featured a few times. I really do believe there is a lot of both pain and joy in the creation of the persona of V. He has mentioned it many times. V and Kim Taehyung are not the same

My take is the Black Jacket Tae is the real sculptor and sculptured the Red jacket Tae and Everyone in white. The Red Jacket Tae came to life and enjoyed his life (as described in Pygmalion). but at the end he cries looking at Black Jacket Tae as he realizes everything is an illusion. And that as the statue Red Jacket Tae is confined to the grounds of the mansion and as the illusion cannot leave as demonstrated when Tae walked to the gate and could not go through it. To me (and I could be wrong) not going through the gate signifies that something or someone is holding him back from moving forward.
Makes a lot of sense. But then how does stage and the visit to town n car scenes fit in.

This is based on the mythical Greek story of Pygmalion who was a sculptor. He actually detested women, but when he sculpted a statue of a woman who was pretty & lifelike he fell in love with her. Aphrodite the Goddess of love turned the statue real because she saw how Pygmalion truly loved her. The twist in this MV is in the end. V(red jacket) realized he was also a statue turned to life by the real creator V (black jacket). Hence the tears by V in the end. Beautiful acting by V, I believe Korean directors will be clamoring for him when he gets discharged. Some people get confused when Park Hyo Shin starts singing but if you watch the MV that Hybe just released yesterday where V & Park are in a restaurant sitting across each other & singing the song. Their voices blend so well together, Hyo Shin has a background in musical theatre so he was a good fit for this song. These 2 are good friends in real life, they have sung a duet before, have guested together as guest DJ's on a popular Korean radio station. V even guested on one of Hyo Shin 's concerts where they danced to
V's song "Slow Dancing". All of these can be found on YT.
The VU by Tae. V made this MV in 20,22 so he knew the storyline and he put Easter eggs and hence in his songs since then. Like multiple V’s and a virtual world in ‘slow dancing’. In Ffri(end)s, he also gave two parallel universes with the inception moment at the end of the MV with the two V’s meeting, just like in winter ahead. Also V when he made the ‘Winter Bear’ MV, he was inspired by the movie ‘About Time’, where he wished he could go back in time. He’s actually making his own VU and he’s doing it in such a clever way by making a storyline in 2022 (winter ahead), waiting until 2024 to drop it and in the meantime seeding is MV’s with Easter eggs and hints. He gave us multiple V’s in ‘slow dancing’ with a virtual world. Followed this up with two parallel universes in ‘Fri(end)s where we get the inception moment at the end of V and Tae coming face to face and now we get the V and Tae’s, again in two ‘universes’ in ‘winter ahead. To me it’s so creative that the other MV’s were puzzling and thought provoking but are answered now with this MV. V really does inspire critical thinking with his thought provoking art.

I can't even imagine taehyung is dealing with this..i really really really hope taehyung was able to say goodbye.. 💔 My heart hurts so much when I remember Taehyung when he said: “I wish he cld tell me whenever he felt sick or unwell” to those who may not know, tae mentioned that tannie had an issue with his hind legs and also breathing difficulties,before adopting Tannie, Taehyung knew he had health issues. he spent half a year studying about dogs and seeking advice from dog trainers. he gave him the best life possible! Tae truly was the best dog dad! ,Taehyung chose Yeontan as the cover of his first album as a solo artist and Taehyung chose Yeontan as the cover of his Christmas song And also appearing with him on stage in his promotions and performances. Taehyung tried to share every moment with him so that it would remain a memory for him and us and Taehyung made sure that he would be remembered everywhere because he wanted Yeontan to be in our hearts forever. We all love her so much and will remember her For a long time. She is in our memories as Taehyung's heart and we will be forever grateful for the beautiful influence she had on his life. And most importantly Yeontan, thank you for all these years.. RIP YEONTAN 🕊

The scenes where V wear the shimmery white top are also shot outdoors. V love nature, but it can also mean he is putting himself and his love for jazz music out there, regardless of outcome or how some fans may react or dislike it. Freeing himself by being true to himself. The theater scenes may be a contrast, where he watches himself performing what the people in the kpop world expect of idols.
The butterfly is a symbol of transformation, rebirth and personal growth. V is experiencing all three in his life and career. Also, the scene with him alone in the audience and on stage makes me believe that he sometimes feels this way in regards to his company, HYBE, and how it doesn't support him as well as it should.
I would not overthink on the last part about Hybe, please just avoid that for respect of the artist: just the solitude of the artist when the audience is not there, you see him alone in the theatre as well . At the end of the day, the theatre is empty and he is alone. The duality between V, the stage persona and Kim Taehyung the real artist and composer.

It says a lot about the humility and self-confidence of V (as well as his deep admiration for his sunbae) that he would allow himself to be heard up against the superior vocals of Park Hyo Shin. But it makes sense because my takeaway is that V sees parallels in PHS' own history of self-discovery as an artist (the glitter jacket and the MJ red jacket are not accidents, imo - PHS used exactly the same imagery). (Note also the similarity of the French provincial house with the one PHS & Jung Jae Il stayed and co-composed in for the series "Your Song".)
The sculpture with his mark ‘V’ on the rear represents the image of himself that he helped create and for which he has developed an almost Narcissus-esqe affection. But it is deliberately of the opposite sex, inherently untrue to himself.
This is a very brave move, I believe, on V's part. Some may feel that with his huge fanbase he has the comfort of thinking many fans will follow him wherever he chooses to go, but that is not always certain, especially when this crooning style and song choice (beautifully co-composed by V, PHS, Hyesung, Jesse Harris & Waizmin) is so distant from the music of his idol group years.
Standing alone on the stage facing an empty auditorium, V can't help but wonder if there will indeed be an audience for his own music as he envisages it. He knows, from the final encounter with the darker version of himself, that with any rebirth as an artist there has to be a death of some sort as well. His smile at the end tells me he is ready for it.
In the end he realized that he also is a sculpture you see the original artist coming back you see the sculpture driving and the original artist a darker one returning in the back seat returning who I believe he is the one who breaks the statue making the woman disappear in the end he lifts the veil an realizes now the statue he sees his own face realizing when lookin at the darker Artist that he himself is also a statue created and in the end scene in the shirt that looks very idol like represents his stage character V and I believe he is ready to reveal Kim Teahyung
It's like when V released a song with MV, i first listened to his music and feel his magnificent voice❤ cause I know V is an artistic man, the lyrics not necessarily be about the MV, but it has substance and it's very deep😛 he's a very good storyteller, and it's not like me to understand it at once😂 it took me a while to understand the MV, but definitely the song, the music, the lyrics and the collab, they are all perfect👌
