THANK YOU! FINALLY! a video that is helpful - - not just how to open the box. It is dense. Be ready to hit pause. Not a criticism of the video, just a fact that there is so much useful content.
No Joke, this video was extremely helpful. My Yaesu 710 was very easy to navigate w/o opening up the instruction manual. This is my first ICOM and it's a world of difference. Loving the radio and it blows the Chinese HT's out of the water, but I wanted a training video to go over the radio. This hits the spot. You should work for ICOM, your video makes it easier that any manual. Only 6 minutes in so I'm sure you will go over this, but for those who did what I did and just pop in an SD card with a repeater CSV from D-StarInfo only to find it not work, you need to let the radio format the SD card (NOT in windows, on the radio) FIRST. It's under settings and SD card. Format the SD card on the radio FIRST. It will make folders and then you can add your files to the correct location on the SD. Again, thanks for this video!
So much to learn with these HTs - makes HF CW look like a walk in the park. Still haven’t decided on the ID52, FT5DR, or wait for the new Kenwood. Another channel I watch is based in Weston super Mare - he runs Ashworth Automotive (not a ham), and another in the Fens who is a ham.
@@HamTechRadioScannerDrones The ham in The Fens is G0LQV - not exactly close to you but I know he’s been to Weston. But he also runs an ID52 and a 705, so maybe you’ve closed the gap via DStar?
I was also looking at the FT5 DR for the APRS feature but I honestly don’t think I’m gonna use it that much since the store has some thing similar. My favorite features of this radio is the sunlight readable LCD screen and the beautiful easy to read font and charging over USB although too bad it’s not USB-C type.
@@SteveHartmanVideos ID 52 just arrived this week. It's a nice radio, and I believe I've even figured out making a gateway call via DStar - I was able to link to London from North Carolina. No QSO yet, but it did work. I bought the optional drop in charger to avoid charging via the DC In and micro USB ports.
@@Hogdriver88 I think I am leaning the same way to for the ID 52. I will end up getting the drop in charger as well but the USB is a nice feature to have when you are traveling I don’t want to bring the drop in charger. Now I just need to find a good deal on one. 73
Thank you for video. I’m learning a lot from your channel. I was just wondering, how did you get that background color blue. Mine shows only black and white.
Hi, When in DR and I hold down RX-CS to see list of history it doe not hold in that screen so I can scroll thru the past stations? It keeos reverting back to DR but replaces "CQCQCQ Use Reflector with the "station Id callsign" ? Am I doing something wrong ...I hold RX-CS but it just wont stay on that screen.
Thank You! I still ONLY have 1 problem when I go to my LOCAL Repeaters I can hear fine.. but No one Ever hears me TRANSMITT? I have Icom 52A as well as the Icom 50A So I’m sure it’s somewhere N my Configuration settings ?
I can't find this info so I'm guessing no, but does this radio have CW decode? If not, can it be done via an App on mobile when connected via BT? My HT Base doesn't but I've added it when connected to a PC with a separate program. Not a huge deal breaker as this is UHF/VHF and not HF. Just curious.
HI, you mentioned a program that would let you use all of the reflectors without a hotspot. I was curious what that program is and if you have a video on it. I am glad I found you on youtube I just purchased an ID 52 today and should get it in a few days. Thanks for providing all of this great information!
Thanks so much. I learn so much from your videos. I have only had the 52a for a few days and am finding your videos really clear and helpful. 73. K2MR. Ron

No sorry
@HamTechRadioScannerDrones Thanks for the reply. Not needed for UHF/VHF anyway as it's mostly HF you hear CW. Anyway, thanks for the video. Cheers.
Brilliant!

Does tthe wallplug charger charge quicker than the USB?
I think yes
Very helpful thank you
Your welcome :)
Can you change the knobs over so the voloum is the top knob and freq is the bottom???
Ft5
Can you recommend a better antenna?
The stock antenna works great its more about your location .
@@HamTechRadioScannerDrones Understood hoping a Diamont wip will do better.

Hi Ron - thanks
Woooww for 500 euros that's not cheap. I'll wait for the Chinese equivalent 😂
The 52 is good value China does not make DSTAR Radios .
Can you charge via USB an TX at the same time?
Best way to find out is Contact Icom -

Shame it doesnt have Wi-Fi like the 705, should also of been usb c
yes
The data entry is awkward. This is probably the worst HT in this respect. No hard or soft keypad?
Having a keypad is very nice I use keypad on my Kenwood D74.
