  • ** remember to disable your GPS when connecting to multi-mode reflectors as it keys up the entire network every few seconds making network managers angry! 😁
A video on how to configure ICOM G3 terminal mode to allow using D-STAR over WIFI to remotely connect to xlx/urf reflectors. Be sure to port forward UDP 40000, 12345 and 12346 through your firewall to your 705 or 9700 radio!
** 2024 update! Please change server name to urf891.wny-digital.network
    * 2024 update! Please replace the TO: field /XLX891C with /URF891C. Some radios also require a space ie: URF891 C. **

Thanks a bunch for your videos! I just got into your system with access point mode on my 705 via a handheld Dstar radio. You’ve really got about the only good videos regarding how to access dstar without a hotspot. Thanks!

Hi, thanks for the video. Don't you need to open up ports on the WLAN? In other videos I heard you have to open UDP Ports 012345, 12346 and 40000 for this to work. I opened them too and I come out everywhere I like, also my GPS data are available on the dashboard, but I have no audio transmitted and also none to hear. What can be wrong here? Thanks

Dumb question here. If you put any XLX### reflector in the Direct Input or do you have to change the Gateway Repeater (Server IP/Domain) to a different one every time you want to change XLX reflectors??? Does the server need to match the reflector??? Thanks!

4:33 You're using the WiFi antenna on the 705, the cell phone WiFi and LTE/5G antenna, and of course the cell towers... so just a few antennae involved. :D Great ability to have when there is no D-STAR repeater without the need to buy, config, and maintain a hotspot though.

Great video. One question though. Heard lots of people saying they were not able to use att and Verizon cell phone hotspots because of some udp blocking or something in the cell phones firewall that couldn’t be changed. The was some time ago so I don’t know if that has changed or if I misunderstood the info. Any success with this or some workaround that you know of?

Once you find ANY XLX reflector, go to its web page, there's a list of all other reflectors and you can click on any of them for their dashboard and usually the DNS name (URL) is what you put in the radio as the Gateway (minus the HTTP:// part)

I realize I’m replying 3 years after the video, but please explain how to make a contact! I may be the only person who doesn’t know this obviously easy process but…
I am using an icon 705. The radio is programmed to an XLX reflector just as you demonstrated. When I key once I get both up and down arrows and I can spot my connection on the xlx dashboard so I know the radio is set up properly.
What do you do next? I’ve seen some videos change to “use reflector cqcqcq”. I just can’t comprehend that.
It’s silly but I’m struggling to understand how to make a contact. Please help by making a short demo!

that stuff is so complicated... anyone has instructions know to the basics of all this, how this is working, where to find the ip adresses, gateways and infrastucture ? and did I understood that a icom radio could be use to run on a different digital mode than dstar when using the terminal mode ?

    • @Abisynth
      @Abisynth 2 года назад +1

IC-705 supports only D-STAR. The reflector must be capable of multi digital protocols/modes. So it depents on the reflector you are using. Some reflectos suppots cross-mode some don't.

Thanks for the video. I too had the cloud with the red X, but somehow I managed to get it to disappear. Still haven't been able to call and talk with anyone, but I'm learning.
My problem now is, I can't figure out how to return to the normal radio made. I ended the TERMINAL MODE, but it doesn't return to the frequency screen. Its gotta be something simple.....Thx,

    • @Abisynth

You are not doing this cross-mode connection, neather does your radio. The reflector must be capable of multi digital protocols/modes. So it depents on the reflector you are using. Some reflectos suppots cross-mode some don't.

You can usually configure the DHCP server to issue a fixed (internal) IP address so the port forwarding always works in a predictable way AND you don't have to put a fixed IP address in the radio itself.

Seems like cheating to use wifi. Ham radio was always unique in that you were working with actual long distance radio communication instead of just using WiFi in your home.
