Very helpful video, thank you. As you show in the video, even after getting the outer end free of the steering knuckle it is still necessary to pry apart the joint between cv axle and diff to actually release the shaft. However, you don't show the reverse when installing the new shaft. Other guides mention pushing in on the shaft until it pops in, including one video where he can't get it to pop in without a BFH blow. This requires first compressing the cv axle in a straight line. I'm unable to both compress the cv axle and simultaneously swing a BFH. I just tried pushing it in with the scissor jack braced against another car but the jack stands started to tilt before any pop in. I'm going to put the other wheel back on and put that side back on the ground and try again with the jack but has to wait until tomorrow. BTW for the axle seal, assuming you are installing a new one, i flipped the old one over and put it face to face with the new one, placed a piece of wood over that and just smacked the piece of wood a few times with the BFH. That distributes the force evenly around the circumference of the seal without crushing the seal part.
Hello Kiri, following these steps is indeed necessary when replacing the axle seals 🤓 If your cv axles are still good, they can be re-used instead of replacing.
@@digitors I hope you cv's are good, too! It would save a whole lot of money 😎 The cv's can sometimes be tough to get out, which stinks. Here is a link for the front axle seals: amzn.to/31N8Tqp
@@digitors the first time I did it I ran into many problems and it ended up taking two weeks because my axle splines had rusted together. Most people don't have that problem, so hopefully yours should only take about 1.5-2.0 hours on each side.🤓
Good question, and I have a hard time explaining it. I put a small dab of grease on the retaining ring and "center" it by touching it from all sides at once so it stays positioned on the shaft without sticking out anywhere.
Mine was not, but I destroyed it while trying to separate it from the axle coupler it had seized itself into. I had to disassemble the CV and, ultimately, the front axle housing in order to have it pressed out of the coupler and outer axle housing.

Starting this today and it's my first time! 😆
Let me know how it goes!
Not bad job same as Colorado
Great vid. I have leaking front axel seals - is this what I need to do?

Great to know. I hope the cv axels are good. The dealer shop wants too much money lol. I want to try this! So look for seals on Amazon?

Thanks for the link. How long does it take realistically to do each?

What exactly do you mean by "centered" for the "Retaining Ring"?

Good video. I need to do that.
I'm glad you found it helpful 🤓 Let me know how yours turns out!
Thank you brother 🌹
My pleasure!
How did you use box end wrench to remove the seal??
I put one end inside and behind the seal and used leverage to pop the seal out of the housing. Were you able to get yours out?
@@H3Humper Yes, I bought a seal puller tool, one that has two hooks on the end. Worked perfect. Thx!
Where is this drive shaft made?
Hey there, in the product listing on Amazon (link in the despription), it shows the U.S. as the country of origin.
Was it making a clicking noise?
