    I soaked my beans overnight, and cooked them the next day for nearly 3 hours but they were still al dente, not quite soft. I figured it was the salt i added with the chicken bullion from the beginning. I'll never salt them again, only at the end of the cooking time.

      Should of tried an extra hour!! No need to soak them my grandma would cook them 4 hours and add water as the water boils out.

      If you are not blending pls don’t soak, soaking makes it rigid.

      I only boil in salt water and never presoak. They’re perfect every time.

      Old beans don’t soften. No matter how long you boil them 😢

    Skip the salt.... Where's the pollo boillion, 4 bacon strips (pork fat = flavor) get a sliced serrano chili, and add Sazon seasoning. Leave that onion in, but slice it in rings. 👍😁

      You shouldn’t add anything except salt and all other things later. Unless it’s unsalted chicharones or something dehydrated. I also fry my bacon first and add it after the beans are cooked if I choose to at that time.

      Folks use avocado leaves for beans - you can find it in Latino groceries

      it is rajma we call it beans in poland and other countries indians call it rajma

    I do the same thing and the beans take so long to soften...we end up eating them a little hard and I let them sit on the sto e top for 3 to 4 hours the water keeps draining and the beans stay hard 😂I don't get it 😢

      It’s the salt I think, you have to add it at the very end when the beans fully cook or they’ll stay hard. It happened to me too

      Pro tip, try making beans in a crockpot...I will never make them on a stove again... beans, water ...fry half onion (one big piece) some garlic and add to crackpot. Then I add 6 teaspoons chicken bullion, cook on low or high if you want overnight and in the morning you wake up to perfectly cooked beans!❤

    Bay leaf’s only go in black beans. In pinto beans the flavor is really bad.

    I hate watery beans , Family secret is to mash like a quarter of them them you have a thick consistency. 🤷🏻‍♂️

      Beans take like 1-3 hours to cook you just check to see if they’re soft & you’ll know there done , I cooked pinto beans yesterday for like 1 1/2-2 hours
