spent two years in Fulham in the mid 70's, remember those matches and the friendly supporters and the Cornish pasties. but best memories were the genious of George and Rodney, never saw players since enjoy the fun of playing as much. Great memories,

@@MrGman2804 , yes, today's game seems diluted compared to those days when the tackles really went in. The pitches, the crowds, and then we had the gift of George Best.

As Manchester lad I would normally have been routing for our neighbors Oldham but since George was playing for Fulham I was just honored to watch him do his thing and the fourth goal was the icing on the cake!

Just as our coach arrived at Loftus Rd it came over the radio that the game was cancelled so the supporters club sec said lets go down to Craven Cottage to see Georgie, what a great day, different then we expected but still a good memory. Thousands of other reds also turned up, good on Fulham too I think they appreciated a few quid on the gate.

Wow. I was there for that match, and still have the programme somewhere. I remember the half frosty pitch. More importantly I remember seeing Best and Moore, the two players that mattered in my childhood. I feel very fortunate to have seen them both play. This was nearly 40 years ago. It is stunning. Thanks for posting this. How it is so well preserved is a miracle.

Also at the game - time plays tricks - thought that the Best goal - what a wonderful piece of skill was the final goal but it was NOT - John Mitchell was a great favourite of mine - pleased to meet him in St. Albans when we talked about the semi final replay at Maine Road.

Bobby Moore scored the most spectacular own goal I've ever seen, with a diving header from an Alan Groves cross a few minutes from the end of the Oldham v Fulham game in September 1974 - it was the only goal of the match. A few months later he did exactly the same in a game at Sunderland, which was on Match of the Day!

When in the Merchant Navy I persuaded some of my mates to watch this match at Fulham., me being an Oldham fan.
To make it worse I had to be jeered and ridiculed at again the next day when it was shown on The Big Match.

Quality performance by Best. You can tell how his game changed in his final years at Man U how he couldn't be bothered as they didn't build a team around him as they should have.

I was at this match! Wow. I can't believe it. I remember the frost on the shaded side of the pitch. I certainly remember the score. I was just by the goal behind the coca-cola sign with my Uncle Patrick and his daughter. We saw George Best and Bob Moore that day come right up. I am so pleased to find this on youtube. Now I see I posted on this 6 years ago..... blimey... I forgot that, but remembered the match from 46 years ago.. It was a treasure then and it still is!

used to love going to the cottage in the late 90's. Havent lived in UK for years, but seeing the kick off in day light and then full time whistle in the dark reminded me off going to watch fulham and then heading to the 8 bells for pints afterwards. Would of been amazing in the 70's to watch Best, Marsh and Moore.

Oldham almost always froze in front of the ITV cameras in the 1970s. There's also a dire 0-4 defeat at Bolton from the previous season on RUclips, and we lost 0-6 at home to Aston Villa in the old Third Division in 1971-72.

@@mathewdunne5771 That's right, 29 December 1973. We lost the next match 0-3 as well at Port Vale on New Year's Day, then went on a run of ten successive wins, which set us up to pip Bristol Rovers for the Div 3 title. Highlights of that Watford game were on RUclips until a few months ago, but seem to have been removed.

They talk about George having had a short career but he almost made the World Cup in 1966 - Northern Ireland were knocked out by one goal in Albania. And had he kept himself fit he would have been called up for the NI WC squad in 1982

Tavy@ that pass from best when he switched the play to the right wing and it created another goal with his left foot at 5.40 while running on ice and how every one thought how easy he could have just laid it on to some one next to him was a sign of this mans genius. I never expected best to switch that pass over to the right while running to the left. And neither did any one who watched that game. Becouse he played a pass basicly on an ice rinck to the players foot while running the other way. And then that chip lol a goal keeper at 6ft standing on his goal line woul have struggled to save that. That keeper looked about 6ft2 and he was 3 yards if that, off his line and still wouldnt have got it. Well george dummiend him a shot to make him slip lol then chipped him. Best set up at least 3 goals and scored one. Rip george and thancks.
