I was thinking the same thing - although with the supply chain shortages it's more common than you think. This year I swapped out 3 Amana furnaces which were 3 years old because the control board was a 2 month wait in December.

I usually reach out to Korean American owned HVAC contractors and distributors for unavailable LG and Samsung mini split parts. Most of the time, they have the parts. Majority of the LG and Samsung mini splits I see in the NYC/NJ area are usually installed in Korean American homes, restaurants, and churches. I haven't worked on a Samsung but I've installed plenty of LG systems and they are working just fine.

Times are tuff at our business location we are doing better it's my business we have a design remodeling firm with showroom / retail store so the products we use we also sell tile flooring window covering counter tops etc.
Well the unit for our showroom went down 20 year old Frigidaire system.
Guy came out and right away Condemmed the system that you it will be 7,000 to replace it. I'm like you can't get it going I can't afford a new unit right now if I where to buy a unit I would be taking money from my customers needed to place there orders. They said no. The issue it had was the blower stopped running and it iced up. They came said the wiring in the air handler is shot and mis wired unsafe to run you need to replace it the wires had also melted.instead of finding out why they condemned the system.
I asked well can't you just change the unit here and leave the unit on the roof there's nothing wrong with it we have been in this building for 10 years and that unit has always been fine no freon needed nothing they said no you have to change the whole system. I went online and found I could get a Goodman furnace with a r22 and 410 compatible coil pancake type air handler for 700 bucks I would have just needed it installed.
I ended up calling another company they came out and said the heater element is shot and wiring is a mess and dangerous but for 50 bucks I could rewire it for cooling only but that would be a patch no telling how long it will last. I told the guy to do the job that system us still cooling away and freezing everyone out of the show room we rarely run the heat. Display light and equipment keep the showroom hot. It can be 40 out and we still have the ac on and running lights make the showroom hot. I think the big texas freeze we had was the first Time in a few years we actually turned the heat on.
We have 2 units one that cools the larger part of the showroom and this one that cools the smaller section its just a office right off the showroom with a open client consultation area right on the main showroom. Guy asked what I'd do for heat I said we got the main unit that heats just fine and for this section I'll go to Walmart and buy space heaters I'd only need 2. For 500 bucks I'll take the patch and run it as long as the unit runs.

For Samsung back ordered parts we actually had the source from Australia and got them delivered here. For some other parts one of my Korean friends got onto the Korean website in Korea and order directly for some other Samsung parts.
All the parts are easily available just not in this country.
Normally these units last 20+ years

@@zlmdragon. yes I know that. We both know that.
But a lot of technicians only go to their local supply house for parts. And if the supply house tells them the factory cannot get the parts they give up and just replace the unit.
They do not have experience on sourcing their own parts from different sources and different companies.
They don’t know when they’re shortages on parts we just source them from Australia or the EU. / UK
People don’t think outside of the box they’re in their own clothes little world locked away in the closet in their local area.
Our customer would rather pay extra $80 in shipping and wait an extra four weeks for the part instead of having to spend a few thousand dollars replacing a whole entire system.
Can you imagine going down to your mechanic and he tells you you have a dead $80 fuel injector and that part is not available back orders so we have to replace your whole engine for $5000.

Honestly that’s the way of ductless. Do a lot of it in the commercial with VRV. Most of the time it’s a throw away system with mini splits. That’s how they do it in Japan and china, install it, rip it out replace.

    • @dorsetengineering

The Era of the shortages no one no matter how long they've been in the trade has been through times like these.
We've had to do so many crazy repairs because equipment is just not available and sometime it's a year to get equipment. I've replaced 3 ph compressors that wasn't available for 6 months and installed single phase compressors on ice machines by splitting the ohase and adding a dedicated nuetral.
Repaired aluminum coils that were leaking, bypassed trane spine fin condenser coils because circuits were leaking. These repairs were never common because we would just repace aluminum coils, and get compressor whenever.
But now we have to make due with what we have and customers are i-rate. Crazy crazy times for the industry

Yeah... i was forced to replace my upstairs system (different reason)... TWO Techs of the same company tried telling me that replacing a High Pressure switch (which the 1 guy blamed for the problem i was having due to an error light, which i didnt personally see) was going to cost $7000 so i was forced to get a new system for $8000 :/
The thing is, after doing some troubleshooting myself, the problem i was having with the old unit and the unit for the downstairs was A BAD FAN MOTOR! Of which i did replace the fan motor for the other unit and that Fixed it.. So yeah...

    • @DigitalIP
      @DigitalIP Год назад

@@thejnelson88 Tell me about it. Other techs in the same company i mentioned it to seemed surprised while others didnt. But, i do have to say i like the new system, somewhat smart thermostat and room temp sensors, upstairs insulation sucks so they help a lot more than just relying on the thermostat for temp control.
