More characters, better graphics, better sound, even the environment takes damage in some areas. You also get the ability of playing Magneto once you unlock him and the story is pretty good for the X-Men series. -

I thought my cartridge had some problem so then i read the instruction manual. It was also very cool that you had to beat magneto to play with him

That opening that literally drops U in the middle of a snowstorm is the best part of this game. One of the best openings to a video game EVER.

I just beat it today, the Magneto fight is still hard. That's where me and my younger brother would lose most lives back in the day and then couldn't beat all the clones at the end. Never made it past the Wolverine clone. I didn't know back then I was that close. Just came to view the video to see how they did the long play. Being cheap with Magneto and shooting from range is the only way I could do it too lol.
It wasn't an easy one for sure, my cousin and I bought it when it came out. Still a great game though, the first half has such great replay value alone.

It's interesting how a studio that is basically lowrung when compared to other studios, ended up developing one of the absolute best games on Genesis.
They originally planned on making a sequel too called X=Women.
Still the best X-Men game. The character sprites were HUGE.
I remember I used to ALWAYS use Cyclops or Gambit on the second part of the sentinel level just so I could stay back and fight from a distance when fighting the boss. That whole level and it's self-destruct sequence is still one of my favorite memories in gaming.
Absolutely. I remember playing it with my brother and his friend. We lost a couple of times until we figure the correct escape route. The gamplays make it look easy, but back in the day when we played it without any guidance at all, it was very hard.

This was the best! After beating it, i would play over and over, i loved how they used all kinds of different characters you rarely see. The best X-Men game ever.

Did you know in the first level, the snow level, the music changes depending on what character is brought forth. If there's two players the music from each character would be fused together for a perfect melody

My cousin and I played this on Sega Channel whenever we could.
I remember the pre-title gameplay gave you different characters, seemingly at random.

Great thing about this one is Cyclops' eye beams fire across the entire screen...not like those short bolts in the first Sega game.

Me neither. Gameplays on RUclips make it look like a piece of cake, but it was actually very hard. Not only that but it pretty long and didn't have any passwords or cordes or something to resume the game from certain level.

10:45 in this era i remember the escape levels with limited time and everything crumbling and exploding, with awesome music that keeps the atmosphere on edge. was one of the best ideas on adventure games. Used on this game, and Super Metroid just to mention some. I cant believe this idea wasnt recycled on modern games. I loved that kind of escape levels. I would buy a game based entirely on escape levels only.
You should play Ori and the Blind Forest and its sequel. Those games have a great story and the big boss fight set pieces are essentially all escape levels that you are pining for.

I loved how Nightcrawler runs in this game. I used to run around like that all the time when i was a kid 😂
This game had a cheat code for invulnerability and I think all characters unlocked. The first stage literally happens when you start the game and you get a random character. Nightcrawler was the easiest to make it through with. Really tough game but a lot of fun.
X-Men 2. It's such a surprisingly fun game, even though I was never able to beat it in my childhood (makes me wonder if I could beat it now if I tried). Much more expansive than the first X-Men game; that's for certain. I also liked the subtle music touches with each character. You can hear it clearly in the intro stage (Cyclops), the first area of the third stage (Gambit), and obviously the final battles. The only thing is that it's such an oddly long game for its genre, or at least feels lengthy with little to no continues. This would have been the kind of game that at least a password feature could have been in place, but I digress. It's still a fun playthough, all that being said.
These levels are Soo much better than the first X game!!!

Great game. I was able to beat it just once without cheats. This game kicked my ass all the time.
I spent so much time trying to beat this game as a kid and it could’ve been done in a little over an hour
with the sentinel core destroyed, its amazing those elevators still work
I remember being 4 and being stuck on the first stage …. I’m 30 and still stuck on the first stage 😅.

I didn't have as much fun playing with Magneto as I though I would.
Magneto sucks. I used him at the end to fight the Queen and I got my ass handed to me. His powers are weak in this game. Only The magnetic orb that you can use for his mutant power is useful but it's slow. Also he doesn't fly, he just hovers and he has no melee attacks like the other X-men just shoots out weak energy blasts. My top pick on the X-men that I always chose for this game were NightCrawler, Cyclops, Wolverine and my all time favorite, Gambit.
Meh, dat slow pimp walk and his super high jump were enough for me, lol.

I remember watching my brother playing this a lot, he first played demo at a mall, then he purchased the game. It was 1997. Oh, the electronic-ish sounds at the intermissions. That's how 90s view the future world.
I loved this game as a kid, me & my friends play it a lot, but never could beat it.
I think it's funny how sparingly the player uses Scott's blasts.

Pretty cool game, and as hard as i remember it, even for being a video that is out of the TAS standards of absurdly perfect gameplay, you are pretty good at this mate.

I remember playing the Master Mold level over and over. It took me forever to remember which game it was that the particular level was in. For some reason I thought it was the X-Men VS Spider-Man game.

You pop in a new game cartridge. You’re not sure where your parents got it, and you have no idea what X-men are.
The game starts. Immediately. No tutorial, no character select, no menu screen. Just play.
You are assaulted by a smorgasbord of techno beats and loud sounds. You decide to cheese most of the levels with Nightcrawler. It’s a damn good time.
What's great about this vid is that I made the same choices when I was a kid at 11-12 for each level. I made it a point to keep each and every X-MEN alive until the end because I didn't know if I needed them or not. For the Jungle though I used Wolverine. It kicked my ass but his healing ability I would wait for it to kick it and I would wait for sure.

Losing the power meter from the first game was a HUGE improvement. Nobody wants to play a x men game where you can only use their powers like twice.

Use to love this game back in the day. Kind of disappointing to see the player get real sloppy near the end, trying to use Nightcrawler to climb walls and spam teleport to avoid enemies, only to take an absolute beating the whole time. My go-to's were always Psylocke, Wolverine and Magneto.

Young people who think souls like games are difficult should try playing Mega Drive games like this one, Battletoads, Contra, Golden Axe, etc.

I still have this game. It's great, but i think that after the Apocalypse boss battle, the game feels a little off and repetitive. From that point onwards (basically all the phalanx stages) there's almost nothing new, even the final boss dissapointed me. And i'm a Sega fanboy

Honestly they are both great games but I prefer the better graphics and music plus I like the street fighter move commands to mutant apocalypse. The two player mode in clone wars was completely unplayable.

This game was okay. Played this game as a kid after already owning X-Men Mutant Apocalypse for the SNES. You’re out of your mind if you think this one is better than the better sound quality/graphics of the SNES. Never going to convince anyone
