    Man, this soundtrack is so much better than you'd expect from a random licensed game. So glad I had this as a kid.
    Also gotta appreciate every character have a distinct moveset and feeling identical to their intended portrayal.
    And getting to play as Magneto after beating him in a boss fight was mind blowing.

      the artist had a full album already made and it was stripped to make the soundtrack. in otherwards the artist was not a game composer. similar to the 3 best songs of sonic 3, stage 4, 5 and 6. that may explain why its so good.

      Absolutely NOT. Not even an honorable mention, tbh. This soundtrack uses the shitty GEMS driver, and boy... does it show. Annoying "instruments" and bleeps combined with obnoxious chainsaw sound fx and it just sounds like Ear Rape more often than not. That said, it's still better than 90% of Genesis games that used that shitty music driver.

    I always loved how each playable character has his or her own signature "instrument," much like, the characters in "Peter and the Wolf." That's always a comparison I drew back then, anyway. It gave the characters and their music such personality and I wish it could have been implemented in more levels.

      Ok, i have since found out new information. Running isn't the song I should be talking about. There is another one called "Come With Me" that is actually where the main title theme comes from. If you look at the prototype version of the main theme, it is literally a remix of that theme.

      +Gender Neutral Chibi Thing It's also a fantastic game, one of the best on Genesis. It has fun, responsive controls, cool moves, well done graphics, great sound, a solid (but not overwhelming) challenge and incredibly fluid gameplay with a large cast of characters that actually play differently, so the game has some staying power too.

    • @zanegandini5350
      @zanegandini5350 8 лет назад +9

      DUSTINODELLOFFICIAL Yeah, I remember reading your comment on Vectorman about how this is your favorite western-developed game on the Genesis. I'll have to play it on Regen when I get the chance, though I'd assume this is one of those soundtracks emulators can't get right.

    • @DUSTINODELLOFFICIAL
      @DUSTINODELLOFFICIAL  8 лет назад +9

      +Gender Neutral Chibi Thing It pushes it in a few places. It sounds much harsher on an emulator, particularly the drums and digital samples. Regen will probably sound OK. This is one of the few uploads I've made where being able to get the recording at all was more important than having it be a hardware recording!

    • @DUSTINODELLOFFICIAL
      @DUSTINODELLOFFICIAL  8 лет назад +4

      The blowing wind/snow effect is actually a separate sound effect; I just set it up so that it triggers with the song. Solves that problem!
      I was originally going to just play back the GEMS sequences and manually mix them together in an audio editor but quickly figured out that without the master sequence to lock to, the other ones run at the wrong tempo. So I dug in and figured out how to do it the "right" way.

    • @DUSTINODELLOFFICIAL
      @DUSTINODELLOFFICIAL  7 лет назад

      Normally the game uses 'mailboxes' to determine which player is selected and plays the right music accordingly. I tried setting the "Player 1" and "Player 2" options with the Clone Boss track and it sounds the same, so the game must do it a different way (playing two sequences at once?) You can try using the sequences option in the sound test and playing two sequences at the same time to see if you can get it to sound right. Do you have a video you could show me where the right music is playing?

For the longest time, I thought I was the only one who noticed...or even cared that the music changed based on who you were playing as(in the first level, at least). I found it fascinating that the sound team/Kurt Harland Larson just went for background noise of nature as the "background music", as it was something I wasn't used to hearing in games of that time. I've been wanting to know if the sounds are super-low quality recordings of nature or if Larson and co imitated the creature sounds with synthesizers.

    I listen to this every time I shower. I gets me pumped. At one point, maybe 3 months ago, I noticed there were ads playing before the completion of the song and some of the ads were 2 minutes long. It ruined the vibes. Now, I see the chapters are gone? Is it because of the ads?
    In any case, than you so much for this soundtrack. The Siberia Mix, The Cone Wars, Sentinels Complex, Intro to Avalon, Outside Avalon, Magneto’s Quarters, Savage Land 1& especially 2, As Fluid Rises in the Citadel, Brainchild Mix, and the Phalanx Ship are all bangers. Kurt Harland was a genius.

      I don't enable ads on my uploads, but if the rights holder flags my uploads they can choose to monetize it by enabling ads. Unfortunately, nothing I can do about it. Ad blockers on PC work but there's no solution for mobile or devices.

      @@rhythmchyc3089 That I don't know either as I don't add them in the first place. RUclips normally does it automatically when I add the track list to the description

    This OST you made from scratch is awesome! Except you missed the final tracks: The X-Men clone bosses. Exodus has the secondary tracks depending on which clone are you fighting.

    I havnt thought about this game in years but hearing it again for the first time since i was what...10? Fuck i forgot how dissonant and creepy this soundtrack is. Its very well done but it creates one of the most intense atmospheres ive ever experienced in a game. It is deeply unnerving but works very well to add tension to, from what i recall, was a rather difficult game.

    This is what I'm talkin from the X-Men 1 soundtrack that X-Men has its own sound..movies animated series games they have a sort of futuristic synth sound. I wonder what the criteria is for making a good X-Men sound, music, sound effects. We all know their powers and energy blasts have a certain look so wouldn't there be a certain sound associated with X-Men?

      They'd have panic attacks. We had to endure this. That's why our generation is tough. We had tough video games. No one can take that from us. No save levels. No extra lives..you either beat the game or you didnt. Start over and do it again. And by no means please no one turn off the Sega while I have it paused.

    I played as Magneto on the Climbing the Temple level ;_;
    Tbh I frequently used Wolverine for the level, but iIrc Magneto was useful for a lazy victory over Tusk. There's a sweet spot you can hover at and blast him, just like there is for Apocalypse. The margin for error in landing those spots is practically a pixel though.
