He served in the Army 1958-60 and was stationed in Germany. They told him he could serve his time in an entertainment unit, but he chose to serve as a regular soldier and was in an infantry division. His mother passed away in August of 1958. By the time he was drafted into the Army he already had 25 gold records (million sellers) and two gold albums, had made four movies, and had purchased Graceland.
