There's a hundred companies making Turkish shotguns, so the quality varies. You're right about Derya Arms, they're one of the really good ones. Turkish pistol brands are fewer and sold overseas under their own names and have reputations to uphold. But most shotguns get re-badged by someone else, so they don't really have the same standards. There definitely needs to be some consolidation in the combined Turkish shotgun, blank gun and air rifle sector.
I'm coming across this channel for the first time, and I appreciate your unbiased and accurate thoughts. There are many people who generally want to downplay the success of Turkish systems in the world, but no matter how hard they try, Turkey has proven multiple times to the whole world just how successful its national systems are in the regions it operates. This is easily explained by its record-breaking exports every year. I'll be looking forward to more Turkish system videos and will follow your channel. Thank you!
In my opinion, ATOM ammunition and its precise guiding system is MUCH more valuable than this whole 35mm system. It can defend a very large area from swarm drones...Very few countries has this kind of capacity,. Kudos to Turkish Enginering.

as you've noted, Korkut is amphibious. Reason they've used an enlarged ACV chassis in the first place was the amphibious requirement of the program. Command wanted their SPAAGs to be amphibious to be able to follow armoured columns on river crossings, which at the time and still is made up of other ACVs. 6kmh amphib speed is pretty standard for this kind of vehicle.

Türkiye'de ki yeni model radarların tamamı aselsan tarafından üretiliyor. I think it is a great balance between robustness and fire power something that can survive nearby artillery strikes, and avoid being shredded by armor piercing, heavy machine-gun rounds. I wonder if it can defeat incoming artillery rounds? I think the only addition required would be add-on ERA and a multi layered point defense system.
Been following you for ages matt. First time ibever commented, thanks for all the outsanding content, keep up the great work. Always informative and interesting.
Looks like they are utilizing the M-113 as a basis for this system. If you look at it head-on you can tell it is not a native design due to the amount of additional, modern armour applique attached to the sides of the base vehicle. Strip it down to the chassis/body, add integrated engine & control systems, add modern armor and crew protection, and, of course, add fire control and targeting computers and you've got yourself a new, effective AAA System.
Türkiye is one of the countries which produces this vehicle under licence. And yes, it's based on the M113 chassis like the Bradley IFV does. Finally it's not the base what is used, it's the turret and tech inside it.
FNSS began in 1988 as a joint-venture between FMC and Nurol Makina, then FMC merged with Harsco to become United Defense in 1995, then became BAE Systems INC after being acquired by BAE Systems PLC in 2005. Nurol Makina just bought out BAE's 49% share in 2024 to become sole owners of the company.
No, it is an ACV-30 made by the firm FNSS. It may look like an M113 on video but if you see it in person there’s no mistaking it for a 113. The ACV-30 is much larger with a higher gross weight and has modern armor and systems. It is heavily influenced by the AIFV (an M113 derivative) but is an indigenous design.

Most Turkish weapons systems didn't start in the 1970s, and in fact, this very weapon is from a company (FNSS) that was a joint-venture (Nurol) with a US company (FMC) and was founded in 1998. Although the 1974 embargo played a factor in developing Turkish defense industry because of the need for autarky, it is massively exaggerated. The origin of most of Turkish defense industry goes back to the 1980s, 1990s and especially 2000s and 2010s. TEI was cofounded in 1985 with GE and Transvaro cofounded in 1988 with Varo partnerships. Honeywell Turkey formed in 1992. The 1990s is when embargoes struck again, which is why Turkiye turned to newcomer South Korea in the 2000s for howitzers and tanks. Then official and unofficial embargoes struck again in the 2010s and thereafter. The 1990s and 2010s experiences were far more prominent than factors than 1970s.

Nice. It's designed to operate with a battalion and is supported by the Hisar-A short-range surface-to-air system. It has evolved into a close-in air defense system, similar to the Phalanx. A version of it is also used on Turkish ships. The body appears large due to the ballast tanks, which are necessary for swimming. This feature is primarily for river crossings and potentially supporting amphibious landings in the Aegean. Plus The Chieftan says he almost popped a wheelie in one by accident, in almost perfect conditions to do so admittedly.
So interesting to see as someone who was trained on the 35mm air defense here in Switzerland (on the radar). Looks like we could definitely need some Korkuts, our air defense is quite outdated to say the least.

Personally, my favorite M-SHORAD/SPAA is the Stryker M-SHORAD. The fact that it has a 30mm chain gun along with a wide variety of missiles (not just limited to MANPADS) makes it a highly versatile system. Really hope the U.S. Army adds the Israeli Lite Beam weapon system to it though. Adding a laser just ups the ante XD
Turkey has been and is being blackmailed by his “nato partners” in every case of an interest collision with military ambargos!!! So the Turks are desperately trying to build their own weapons to overcome those blackmails. So it is a vital point for the Turkish state to have the best weapon systems possible to become self sustainable and fully indipendent.
True but Turkey doesn't always play nice with other NATO countries making bellicose statements.( Greece even America) In addition it has a "hate on " for Israel. I respect Turkey's ingenuity to overcome and adapt however Turkey is not a reliable NATO partner ideologically .

hi mate, as always its a delight to hear from a gunner. this video reminds me of the German anti aircraft system Manti & Rheinmetall Air Defence Ahead. very capable system. with the proliferation of drone warfare, it looks like low to medium altitude AAA gun systems will continue to exist along with the missile platforms. the ballistic rounds might become more "smart" with timed and programed fuses as the technology improves and the costs come down. the gun systems will remain a viable cost effective and area denial weapons compared to missiles. in certain situations these gun platforms can also be used against lightly armored vehicles and troops for self protection whereas a SAM system wont be able to provide such dual role.
Well, the system looks very attractive as point defense for both armoured formations and air stations. It is unlikely to be cheap. The point is that to defend against airial targets you need to put a lot of shells in the air in the shortest possible time frame. With the twin Oerlikon that has lots of ammo types. What I dislike about the Gepard is, that it is an old system and modern radars is likely to be cheaper and more robust. knowing the turks: The high profile is unlikely to be an issue, as they will probably in prepared positions be protected by a large boulder of granit, that will give even nuclear charges a problem. But the hight means that the guns can elevate quite high. The system is unlikely to be overengineered.

You may want to look at the Madis USMC and M-SHORAD Army in the future. They will have 30mm guns and will be, if they haven't already upgraded from 30mm proximity fuse round to programable round. Being able to cross a stream or canal is important for short range systems as they will want to stay close to troops and armor to protect them from drones. I think the 30mm guns have an effective range between 2-2.5km, less than the 35mm guns, but the MADIS and M-SHORAD will also have Stingers to deal with large at range threats.
Stinger are crap, very short range, not very fast, and crappy altitude. Is almost 60 years old tech ! (1967 design ! ). Max alt to engage air targets is a pathetic 3800m, and max range only 7,8km. They are slow and most of the targets (except helicopters) will just stay high and fast. And the production rate for Stinger missiles is also miserable - some 350-360/month. Stinger is an obsolete missile.
@@mirandela777 Nah. The first variant was A, the current is K. Lots of upgrades in 60 years. Mach 2.4 is not bad against things going less that Mach 1 and has an effective range 8km and alt of 3.8km. Longer effective range than any 30 or 35mm gun. Good enough for small to medium size drones. An initial contract for a new Stinger Replacement for 8000 new missiles is expected in 2026. - Stinger is not meant to replace Patriot or NASAMS. Current production of the legacy design is only 60 per month. I don't think any Russian pilots or drone operator shot down in UA will say it is obsolete.
While I generally appreciate videos like this I find the looping of their marketing video in the background really distracting because it rarely lines up being directly related to anything being said in the moment
thank u very much for the video. Do they always need three gun vehicles firing for more than a second to hit a single target? The Gepard (a 1970s system) takes just a handful of rounds per target.

Well made video! Thanks for making this stuff.
You are part of what makes Canada great. Thank you for choosing us as your comrades. Canada needs more men and women in our defense forces and you show the honest and good that we stand for.
as you've noted, Korkut is amphibious.
18 km range is likely a detection range against a cruise missile sized target. The detection range against drones could be 12km etc.
very well prepared video, respect from Turkiye!
Your intros are the best. And the line up of all that equipment was wild!
Hi Mat, I gotta say you've been posting soo many videos lately, and I like them all.
Glad you like them!
Hi Mat, excellent video. I recommend you cover more of the Turkish defence industry since there is A LOT of new and exciting stuff coming from there,. Everything from the new Altay MBT with some regarding it as the most modern MBT in NATO, new ISTIF class frigates, new drones, the Steel Dome air defence system/network with Korkut being an integral part of it, national aircraft carrier MUGEM and much more. Cheers.
Great video thanks 🤘
The Aselsan Korkut has a nsval CIWS variant , the GOKDENIZ. I believe these were developed together to save money
They have come pretty far with personal firearms. I think they get a bad rap from older stuff they made. I have a Canik and, a Tokarev TBP12. Both run flawlessly
I noticed a lot of the gun tubers don't like their shotguns for some reason I haven't bought one but I have fired one of there semi-auto 12 gauge and it seemed to be okay

Love the new format
Thanks Matt, great to see you back in action 🇨🇦🇦🇺

Been following you for ages matt. First time ibever commented, thanks for all the outsanding content, keep up the great work. Always informative and interesting.

Looks like they are utilizing the M-113 as a basis for this system. If you look at it head-on you can tell it is not a native design due to the amount of additional, modern armour applique attached to the sides of the base vehicle. Strip it down to the chassis/body, add integrated engine & control systems, add modern armor and crew protection, and, of course, add fire control and targeting computers and you've got yourself a new, effective AAA System.
That one, called Akinci is a larger vehicle. You can actually park an M-113 in Akinci cabin.
@@cemgokcanNeither this nor the Bradley are based on an M113 chassis.
The products you see now are the work that has been going on since 1970s. It started with the US embargo to Turkey for defending Turks in Cyprus. The products are new but the companies have been working on them for a long time

Both the vehicle and the Oerlikon are sourced from the existing inventory, with extensive modernization helping to reduce costs somewhat

Favorite air defense vehicle? M-16 MGMC. WW2 American half track with a quad M-2 .50 caliber machine guns, side panels fold down to give 360° traverse with a fairly low minimum angle of fire.

Hi, thank you for your nice videos. I just wanted to say that ASELSAN is pronounced this way: Asel - San
Thanks for the info!
Yippee another video 🤙🏻

Born too late for Gun-Based AD.
Born too early for Gun-Based AD.
Born just in time for Gun-Based AD.
