This version of “How Could You Love Me” belongs to the production "Unauthorized" (1985). The images are taken from the performance in Landmark Theater Syracusa, New York. December 1985.
Those were hard years to Mardones, fighting to kick out his addiction to heroin. Legend has it that the record was named "Unauthorized" because Benny did not want it to be released.
"Unauthorized" and "American Dreams" (1986) belong to the "Syracuse only" released by BT Recordings which was owned by Syracuse area concert promoters, and they are true AOR icons.

Benny had probably the best vocal talent in all of rock & roll in the 80's and unfortunately the worst management and promoters. The man could sing circles around anyone else in his heyday. Unfortunate, but for us here in Syracuse he was a blessing from above.
He's right up there with Steve Perry. Both of them have phenomenal vocals!

Benny has been suffering from many health problems. He's a Navy vet. There's a GoFundMe page up for him. So disheartening.
He sure was a blessing for us all here in ny.. he was my favorite!! Sitting here all day crying. Such a shame his music and him were short changed!! He was a beautiful soul.

This song should of been a hit song for him as well as "Into the Night". Sucks he never got the right breaks and is only remembered as a "one hit wonder". He's as great a star to me as Steve Perry was. I like them both.

I was 15 years old when Into The Night was released. I used to pretend to myself he was singing to me. Of course, I'd sing 15 instead of 16. Played that record over and over. Still do. But now i can sing 60 years old. Well almost hahahaha 😅
Loved Benny's voice and I don't think he received the attention he deserved. Was sad to hear he passed away the end of June. Such an Amazing singer!! His songs will Live on❤️🙏🏻

I was thinking the same, i couldn't understand that this Great Man with the most Amazing voice and hundreds of Great songs did not get more attention, however , my Daughter who is 29 came over and i was listening to his music and she new it was the guy who sang into the night and then she asked me if i could play " This Time " i was surprised she knew that one so there are alot of people under 40 that know him and that makes me happy. Into the Night was one of my favorite songs as a teenager and unfortunately it was all I knew of Benny's music. Only recently did I start looking into his other songs, and all I can say is WOW. The world missed out on a treasure. This song is a heartbreaker.
