    My other video (THE LAZY WAY TO WINTERIZE YOUR BOAT) can be found here: • Fast/Free Way To Winte...
    Fast paced overview of the way I winterize my boat. While not ALL of these steps are critical, I think its good practice to knock out the maintenance before storing. That way when you pull it out in the springtime it's ready to go. The step that CANNOT BE SKIPPED is to get the engine filled up with RV antifreeze and fog the cylinders through the carburetor. The rest is optional but recommended.
    My process in a nutshell:
    1. Add stabilizer to the fuel and top off tank.
    2. Replace fuel filter.
    3. Run engine on the hose while in gear to cycle the fuel stabilizer into system and get all the fluids up to operating temperature.
    4. Once up to temp, change oil/filter
    5. Drain both manifolds/block and prefill engine with 1 gallon of RV anti freeze.
    6. Start back up and run 3 gallons of RV antifreeze through the engine. When jug is almost empty, spray fogging oil into the carburetor until engine stalls.
    7. Change stern drive oil/ make sure there's no water intrusion and grease the zerk fittings
    8. Spray rust inhibitor on bare metal surfaces and service trailer.
    Notes:
    *It's best if you store it with the stern drive in the lowered position so the rubber bellow is not in the "stretched" state. (though I've store it both up and down and have never had an issue either way) `

    It is by dumb luck that I found this video. I bought this boat from a guy in PA this Summer. Is there any chance you know where the title for the trailer might? I am having a hard time registering it in Delaware without it. Just thought I'd ask.

      Thanks man. I mean honestly the best option I feel is storing it under a carport. But otherwise any heavy duty boat cover should do you pretty good. Especially if you use that and then a tarp over top. Of course you can always get it plastic-wrapped too

    Thank you so much for your great demo but I need to ask a question after you flood the engine with the fogging oil and the engine shut off , how are you going to make the engine start back up again?
    Thanks again for your video and I appreciate your answer my question
    thank you

    • @NoNonsenseKnowHow
      @NoNonsenseKnowHow  3 года назад +1

      Splendid to hear you found the video informative. Good question. You can either spray a whole bunch more fogging oil into the carburetor and crank it, it should not start. Or a better way would be disconnecting the wires from the ignition coil so it does not get spark when you crank it.

    Can you just flush the motor with around 5 gal of antifreeze without draining the block? I just got a boat with 4.3 mercruiser. I used to just flush the engine with antifreeze after warming it up in my previous 3.0 merc.

    • @NoNonsenseKnowHow
      @NoNonsenseKnowHow  4 года назад +2

      Yes you can as long as you're certain that the thermostat has opened. I strongly encourage draining the block and running a wire to clean out the sediment though. Might as well get all of the order out of there before putting antifreeze in.

    In your shorter video, you showed how antifreeze still slushes at just about 10 deg. Does this concern you when the cooling system is full of it? I live in MN and already winterized but now I'm concerned about whether the antifreeze will freeze still

    • @NoNonsenseKnowHow
      @NoNonsenseKnowHow  4 года назад +1

      It actually did concern me until I did some further research after that video and found that even when it freezes it does not expand. I suppose if it was below -50 I would be a little concerned though. It's good to store the engine with RV antifreeze inside to reduce corrosion, but honestly I feel like it's a safer bet to just store it dry

    Do you have to stabilize the fuel if using ethanol free gas?

    • @NoNonsenseKnowHow
      @NoNonsenseKnowHow  4 года назад

      My short answer is no. If you can get ethanol free gas you should be in good shape. However it's still recommended to stabilize the fuel and it's such an easy step that you might as well do it. + the marine-grade stabilizer is supposed to help take care of any moisture in the fuel as well
