I've had a wee sip of a Gordon & MacPhail 15 year old Linkwood. Jim, you're right, it is VERY nice. Made me sit up and go wide eyed. Will try to get a sample and then sip that Johnnie Walker 15 again. Cheers! :)
Great review, Jim, tasting notes & bottles comparison wise...(great to put into context that JW Green Label). That said, there have been more than this release as official ones, mind you, at least 8 bottlings, but respectively (chronogically) in limited releases such as those 6 ones in the "Rare Malt Selection" range (so a "Pre-Diageo" era releases by U.D.V.-I had the privilege to try their 26 yo 1975 vintage release, gorgeous !), 3 in a wood finishes selection, then 1 in "Manager's Choice" range & more recently 2 older releases in the "Special Releases" range (including that 37 yo which I can still see every week in the "luxury department" glass cabinet of my local "hypermarket" ! ). You can find those bottlings quoted in Malt Whisky Yearbook, by the way, on my side I also have the interesting book that Ulf Buxrud did wrote about "Rare Malts" with more details about them...I totally agree with the "refill Bourbon" statement (& I"ll add to that "refill sherry" too about this distillery & Clynelish too for instance, those cask types suites quite well to the delicate distillate they have imho). I do not own that Linkwood 12 F & F but I should, but I have 3 indie bottlings from this distillery... Slainte !
Just open my first Linkwood. A 12 year hogshead finished in Bordeaux. As blend filler I think the Linkwood as the quality of being both heavy and light at the same time. Never see F&F in NY.
Thanks for reviewing this one, Jim. Have had several Linkwoods, but never the Flora and Fauna, only independent bottlings, which are all to my linking. Might give this one a go ... if I think it's time for some coloured and/or chill-filtered whisky. So we'll see about that. Slàinte mhath
It's really nice, however at that price, you can likely get an IB cask strength bottling of linkwood. Ofcourse at auction they sometimes still go for ~40. Good deal at that price IMO.
Excellent review, Jim. As mentioned I haven't tried this, but your general thoughts about Linkwood are almost a perfect match to mine. If I buy a bottle from the F&F range, I'll guess that the Linkwood bottle will be the first. I haven't tried the JW Green Label either, so that's definitely a must next time I see it in a bar or pub. Cheers mate! 🥃
@@WhiskeyNovice Indeed... the 3 bottles (SV UCF Collection, Wilson & Morgan and Cadenhead's) in my basement all but confirm that 😉 Oh well and the already open Orchard House bottle in my cabinet as well, if that counts as Linkwood too. Fortunately, I won't be running out of Linkwood in the near future 😎
Only recently discovered this channel (damn you, algorithms!) so still going through a ton of videos (and thoroughly enjoying it) so this comment is a bit late - obviously - but I just noticed this for €42 here, so there's really no reason not to try it. 😁
I love the viscous mouthfeel with this dram too! A Speyside surprise. Great review!!
Good review Jim getting nearer that 2k subscribers mark!

Brilliant review ..as usual
Cheers Jim 👍🥃

I have the Linkwood 15 and 25 by Gordon McPhail.... absolutely fantastic spirits. Cheers
Great review. Might have prompted me to go smell a tub of custard powder!

Cheers Frank.
I don't know why they even bother adding colour to this. They must be adding so little just to keep it consistant.
Slàinte buddy.
Having tried the linkwood at SMWS , I will definitely be buying a bottle. Will be checking through the independent bottlings . Great review 👍
Cheers mate. James Eadie might be a good place to start.
Great review mate!😀

I find myself gravitating towards ex-bourbon as well to access the true spirit.
Cheers 🥃
