My problem with those games (crown to factorio, obviously, there is no end to optimalisation there) is what you encountered at the end. You keep optimising until you reach a point of screw-it-I-prefer-to-wait-than-fix-it-again and then you go and grab a beer and watch it go abysmally along. This game looks fun, simple premise, nice quality of life and interesting designs
shapes 1 had this issue when the only real way to end was to create a logic machine that could make any shape it needed. but it also had a tip saying that this isnt a waiting game
Not a big problem in this game tbh. Tom could have easily started working on the next set of quests or optimising output. As a matter of fact, he really limited himself by only using the central platform and miners - you're meant to be building extra platforms along the way. And having an 8000 shapes goal is not there for you to wait around for, but more like a nudge towards doing full 4 or 8 belts of it instead of just 1.
@@Shyl1ght Yeah, that is what I mean. But he designed many other belts and at one point you just get tired of it. You cant think creatively all the time. I mean I cant: after 60th optimalisating modification to my factory in factorio I just look at it and think that its as good as its gonna be because I am done fixing minor issues and smelting my brain during that. Its not that you cant think of better solution or you cant afford another set of machines. Its just you dont want to keep thinking and reinventing the wheel so it goes this 5% better. I get this game is solely about improving your machines and thinking up more ways to do it better but to what end?
@@rysiii811 This game kinda isn't about that. It's very geared around making a fancy blueprint (at the space platform level) once for each problem, and theres no costs, so once you've solved something it's time to move onto the next little shape puzzle, or scale up.
This game does a pritty good job of keeping the requirements not super wait-y. They get a big bump when you reach Space platforms (because you have no good reason to not be running 4 belts over 2/3 floors everywhere) and anouther big bump after trains (train delivery can deliver way more then that).
That said, it's not perfect, especally near the start, I did just wait a couple times. But I've not done that for a while, usually I'm working on 2-4 Tasks and the Milestone at the same time.
Off-topic: you ever modded factorio? Cause man i really feel it there XD sometimes i realise i've done nothing but walk around my base for half-an-hour!
I have a concerning amount of hours in shapez 1 so I really want to try this one out but I'm worried I'll wake from a trance in a month feeling like I've only been playing for a few hours.
Wake up to the sound of your rectangle children leaving for college, your star-shaped wife asleep next to you; seems like it was just yesterday you were setting up your first merge platform....

Tom you need to get back on Twitch if you're gonna play a game like this which is rough to fit into 20min videos even if theres 10 of em. I feel like you did well on Twitch when you did it and this is a chill easy game to play on it. If not then maybe one of those "Superchill" RUclips episodes you used to do

The lack of cost is the amazing thing here- you feel fine tearing down & rebuilding to make new shapes. I don't need to keep everything I've ever made flowing in- I can focus on meeting a current goal & then get to rebuild for whatever's next. It's nice.
The blueprint function is perfect too.
This is going to keep my tism satiated until Satisfactory 1.0 drops.
Shapez 2 is sooo addictive. I’m currently on operator level 48 and still can’t put it down

Hazzah, so good to see a return of this game, it so much fun and such a good time :D Basing down to what we love about production line games, the production line.
Plus, not just the full versioj, but supporter version :D am glad Tom helped this game. Gotta say though, alot has changed since the demo
Also, as Tom said, the little things like the conveyors saying what they transport at the end, really good

The pathing in the miners seems a bit arbatery imo compared to the first game anyway
I feel like I'd rather listen to you yap for however long you actually played this, like a Superchill rather than just the heavily edited and cut down version we get for the main channel.
Please papa I'm begging you, start a second channel for unedited and/or minimally edited long form videos, I would absolutely watch both. Also, you could just dump them as members videos. I wouldn't say no to just more members content, and you could let people know you're not going to make any less actual members content, this is just bonus stuff! But I think a second channel would be good for SEO. You'd be casting a wider net, and be ause so many people would sub so quickly, it'd probably get boosted by the Algo Gods.

I'm sure that Tom really enjoys this and it's superchill to play but honestly I have no damn clue what is going on. Maybe if it was on a long stream style playthrough. Maybe it's just me. Have a like anyway just because your voice calms me.
If you've not watched his video of the demo, that might help, since it's the tutorial he skipped in this one.
