We use to have a two row New Ideal corn picker did a great job. Pull it with Massey Ferguson tractors. You have a nice Massey Harris. Good video

nice video with nice equipment. We had a M-H 30 with a front bucket, but it was so tired it barely got out of its own way. Also good to see your "on site supervisor" (dog) observing your every move. "Now, Who-all didn't gimme a good day's work?"

We had an earlier version that we bought new in 53. First year it didn't get used as the severe drought fried all crops here, folks darn near had to sell off the stock as no feed was to be had. We hadn't used it in years but kept it inside, I sold it to a neighbor some time back as he needed a picker to do ear corn for the hogs, first time out the guy ran the snoots into the ground and twisted the picker so badly that it also broke the rolls, too big of a tractor and too stupid to stop before destroying every thing. Had the nerve to request a refund, guess what I told him! Most all later pickers had stripper plates over the rolls to prevent shelling and lessen operator entanglement.

Why don't you adjust your drawbar so the picker will trail in the row, or maybe you like fighting steering wheels LOL. Great video! best time of the year!!

Back in the day me and the beagles would hunt corn fields after they were picked. They were always good for rabbits and birds, esp if the fields were along a creek bottom. Real nice equipment, I remember the days when they were still pretty well used on farms

Great video content and filming of older equipment getting it done.

Ah, the sweet little Massey-Harris 30; smallest of the full size tractors, but still very capable. A sweeter engine than the Continental F162 would be hard to find. You just never get tired of its sound or noise level. I've never picked corn in my life even though I'm almost 52, but boy, would I ever like to do that. I'm in Eastern Ontario, and that's not how we handled corn. I'd love to cultivate and pick. Maybe some day... Thanks for a wonderful video. And sorry to hear of your lovely, loyal dog's passing.

Nice equipment and you did a great job of filming it from all angles! I have heard it said that New Idea pickers shelled a bit too much corn and left the kernels on the ground. Also that they sometimes left a few too many husks on. But I imagine that it depends on when you pick it; the stalks have to be the right age and the ground speed affects it too. Compared to the picker I grew up with, it looks like you are moving faster than we did. We had a Farmall H that we used for most of my time growing up, and it had a nice slow first gear. Hard to tell from a video though and it didn't look like your picker was clogging, which was usually caused by driving too fast. Do you feel like the NI does a good job for you? I know there are quite alot of them still in use. Thanks for the post!

Could you pick the corn with higher moisture content ? Would that help out with the amount of kernels being shelled off? Just curious I just bought one of these machines for scrap steel price. Going to help some of my Amish friends harvest.

Is this spring picking? It appears some trees are greening up.

Hey Pops ya need to raise your shoot snoot up before ya gouge to ground and bust your snoot. Very nice tractor, and New Idea, don't let the scrap yard man get it and cut it up like the guy who bought our old New Idea.
