Exactly, that's why ppl shouldn't do it to keep up with ppl or to look a certain way as the heart must be right and there is purpose in ones dedication to Christ
I love that we fast in secret.. it’s such a beautiful yet intense day of denying the flesh. After a few times of fasting eventually it felt weird even asking for something.. fasting became an obedience thing vs looking for something in return. With that being said it’s time to fast soon lol. Shalom my brethren’s!
Examples of Fasting from the Bible 1. Moses’ Fast: • Scripture: “And he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.” - Exodus 34:28 2. Elijah’s Fast: • Scripture: “And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.” - 1 Kings 19:8 3. Esther’s Fast: • Scripture: “Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.” - Esther 4:16 4. Daniel’s Fast: • Scripture: “In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.” - Daniel 10:2-3 5. Jesus’ Fast: • Scripture: “And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.” - Matthew 4:2 Prayer for Those Fasting Heavenly Father, We come before You with hearts humbled and spirits yearning for Your presence. As we embark on this time of fasting, we seek to draw nearer to You and to understand Your will for our lives. Just as Moses, Elijah, Esther, Daniel, and our Lord Jesus Christ sought You in their times of fasting, we too, lay down our desires and sustenance to focus on Your voice and Your direction. Grant us strength and perseverance in this period of self-denial. Let our minds be clear, our hearts be open, and our spirits be willing to receive Your guidance. May this fast bring about a deeper intimacy with You, a renewal of our faith, and a greater understanding of Your love and mercy. We ask for Your protection over our physical bodies, that we may be sustained by Your grace. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit, and let this time of fasting be a testament to Your power and glory. In Jesus’ precious name, we pray. Amen.
Thank you so much. I’ve never properly done a fast. I’m learning so much watching you explain various topics. Thanks for always directing us to scripture.
Absolutely correct. To gain humility and commune with the Lord. The Lord dictates the time, length, and structure of the fast. I love the Lord because He knows exactly what is needed & when it's needed. Excellent commentary Corey
Thank you so much for this explanation Corey. There’s been times when I fasted and that closeness wasn’t there and I couldn’t understand what I was doing wrong. This helped identify everything.
Thank you and God bless you brother Corey 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏my problem is fasting while being at work. Have to focus on getting the job done and also wanting to have that spiritual frame of mind. At home it's not a problem (less distractions). I will do it again!!! Just reading more of God's Word and watching the right videos and praying about it!
God made man a trinity; body, soul and spirit. Fasting brings the body in subjection and brings the soul and your spirit into the forefront. When I want to memorize scripture I fast. When I had an exam in school I would always fast. Try this, fast starting Friday evening and don’t eat until after you’ve preached Sunday morning. Fasting will change your preaching phenomenally. The only problem is that it sets my emotions on edge and often I weep while preaching.
I always drink water only during a fast. Fasting is healthy for the body but dehydration is definately not. I would caution speaking against staying hydrated during a fast.
Brother Corey, I think there might be a misunderstanding on Isaiah 58. They way I understand it, v. 3-5 is the way Israel thinks God wants them to fast, when in reality, God tells us the fast He accepts in v. 6-7. You've been a great blessing to me, and I say this with great respect and for the edification of the church.
Fasting is a practice where the tradition of The Church over the years can be very helpful. In particular when it comes to times where these is conflict in regards to fasting. For example if one is fasting on Fridays during Lent by abstaining from meat and you are offered a dish with meat when visiting someone's house. In such a case tradition would hold that you could eat the meat dish as refusing it would be inhospitable and boastful.
Lord have mercy this video is an answer to my prayers. Haven’t reached 2 mins in yet but thank you sir ! I’ve seen your content on All Things Theology. Subscribed ❤
A prolonged fast, lasting days require water to flush the system. It is danagrous to do a proloned fast and not drink water. Not Juice and beverages. they have food value
Refraining from food and drink is an expression of interior penance, in imitation of the fast of Jesus for forty days in the desert. Fasting is an ascetical practice recommended in Scripture and the writings of the Church Fathers
I think you should say .. fasting doesn't mean ONLY TO NOT EAT FOOD... fasting can be to DO WITHOUT ANYTHING. LIKE IE. DO WITHOUT INTERNET OR YOUR PHONE OR SLEEP OR MONEY OR SOMETHING FUN, OR NEED..
I've heard this before but I'm not convinced. The Bible only ever mentions food and drink as fasting. I don't think not watching TV or not listening to Spotify for a day isn't a fast.
@@tomy8339I think the person means if you are fasting (from food) for the LORD to help stay focused on him you should abstain from worldly entertainment as well during that time
Is it written somewhere not to fast on the Sabbath? Examples of fasting in the Bible has been for multiple days; with Jonah and Esther being 3 days no food and water. Is it safe to say fasting should be for multiple days. Even debatable 3 minimum no food or water, 4 or more with water. Further examples (let me know if I’m reaching) the crowd tarried with Christ for three days (no food or water) and he didn’t want to sending home fasting “lest they faint”. He then blessed them by feeding them. The children of Isreal was led by Moses three days from the Red Sea without out water and murmured against him. God provided them the bitter water that he turned sweet with a specific tree. I’m only asking because I’m learning and wanting to implement fasting into my lifestyle and I came across those as examples.
Do people fast to get closer to Him AFTER he did all there is to do to be in Christ? Also, is fasting a work of the flesh? Could I boast if I fast, (even if I say nothing at all about the fast to anyone?) How can I get closer to Christ if He lives in me and He put me in Himself? Did people fast after Christ finished everything needed for salvation and justification before the Father? Also, why do other religions that don't believe in Christ fast?
Yes it was and would be a work, your right. Also fasting meant to witness and teach during the churchage, look at Isaiah 53:6-7 but start at verse 2-9 about. It doesn't mean a denying of food or things.
@@Daniellapalo I have bread and I have everything Jesus wanted written. (Every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God) Can I add to the finished work of Christ? @@Fernando-qs7bl Yes, I know about that. What I'm looking for are people that fasted AFTER Jesus rose from the dead. I know believers did fast before the finished work on the Cross. Who are some that were full believers in the finished WORKS of Christ that still knew what He did was not quite enough for me to not worry and cast all my cares on Him?
@@orangeandslinky Jesus said when you fast, not if you fast. I never said anything about adding to the finished work of Christ. I think you will understand fasting more when you actually try it. And you will understand why Jesus told us to fast. Fasting is an incredibly powerful part of the Christian walk the devil will keep you away from that.
Good day brother in Christ..not in full agreement with you but its all good. I dont think you should put a time frame that you Corey think is appropriate for someone else's fast...everyone's walk with Christ is different and with the Holy Spirit leading an individual would know how long and how frequently they engage in fasting..when i fast, i pray and read the Bible usually the night before to around 3pm the following day, once a week on average and it's quite satisfying to my soul. Shalom brother
What if you have a wife and she makes you meals. Do you not let her know you are fasting as to not insult her or disgrace her as she kindly prepared the table for her household? Vice versa for your husband’s as well.
I’ve done several three and five day fasts, when I still cooked for my husband, he had not wanted to fast up to this point. I sat down with him while he ate, not every meal but I did, also I will go out to a restaurant with him while I’m fasting and he’s eating. We are one flesh, of course you should tell your spouse. Because we are one flesh, what we do for ourselves affects the other. And praise be to God eventually, my husband started fasting as well. I hope this helps!
I don't agree necessarily with some of your advice. Honestly I didn't have some problem to solve when I fasted. It was simply to deny myself and focus on Christ. I'm not going to meditate 24 hours a day. My last fast was four days long of nothing but water. I didn't have any specific reason to do it I just started doing it out of nowhere with no real explanation. Yes, you can have a reason, but you don't NEED one. Also there's different types of fasting. One day fasts I never do tbh because to me that's no real fast. Neither is the ramadan version. Esther's version was three days according to the Word. Paul fasted for three days with no food or water.... very difficult.. David fasted only abstaining from meat. I went on a fast for some reason only drinking milk(for a year) and nothing else, like some sort of rebirth fast brought on by the Holy Spirit. I think some prayer might also help you figure out what type of fast you should go for. Just my opinion. Christ Jesus, Lord and Savior, Prince of Peace and God of Forgiveness bless you.
Can't say too much but this video is VERY ON TIME FOR ME
God definitely hears our prayers!
