    In this revisit, we're taking a look at the Nexus 6. A gigantic phone released by Google and Motorola Mobility, which Google had acquired a few years prior. In 2014 we saw the growth, literally and figuratively, of the Nexus phone.

    I am riding this phone til it dies. My trusted friend. Gone through a slew of Spigen cases and glass screen protectors . . . but this boy still goes everywhere I go. When my dog started showing his age, I didn't toss him out. Same with my Nexus 6. He a little slow, but we cool.

      Yes I, too, am still rockin' a Nexus 6. I vacillate between LineageOS 16 and Carbon ROM (both work with Franco Kernel R78) and TWRP for my recovery partition. Stock firmware was just unacceptably slow and unstable. Battery is going though, so I'm going to have to crack the case, remove all 22 M4 screws, and put in a new one pretty soon.
      That sure was a lot easier on the Nexus 5.

      @nice95gle 4 года назад +6

      You right, phones haven’t changed. But these phone makers would like you to believe that If you don’t have the latest and greatest phone.
      Then you’re missing something and your last year’s phone is nothing but a paperweight.
      Apple is king at making you feel that your one year old phone is garbage.

    • @sloppynyuszi
      @sloppynyuszi 4 года назад +2

      nice95gle I would disagree with you there. I think tech youtubers and fanboys maybe, but Apple not so much. They support their handsets longer than any other manufacturer with software on the market. Until last year the iPhone 5s and 6 was still getting updates. And seeing how they are still launching products with A10 chips. The iPhone 7 probably has a lot of years in it too.
      Marketing wise, every company will tell you they have a new and best product and buy that. Apple is not the only one guilty of that.
      You can buy an iPhone new and sleep well that it will last you beyond 3 years easily. I wouldn’t say the same with a Samsung flagship. My Note 8 got some heavy burn in after a year, and this seems to be a common problem no one talks about.
      Apple isn’t perfect. It’s just the lesser of the very very evils vying for your money.

    Still use mine in 2020! But not as my daily driver anymore sadly. Those duties went to my pixel 3a XL as of May of 2019. My Nexus 6 is suffering from an old battery so was forced to upgrade. I still use it to watch movies (crispy AMOLED 16x9 aspect ratio screen & those loud front facing speakers tho!), RUclips, football games via the NFL app, & as my tv remote via my home wifi. It streams video excellent to this day! Even has wifi MU-MIMO 802.11ac which is so underrated on this Snapdragon 805 soc! Currently running Lineage OS 16 with Popcorn Kernel. At times it can bog down with memory intensive apps or too many apps open in the background. The memory management on Popcorn kernel helps..but only so much. The weak battery affects its speed somehow which I've noticed especially when it gets warm so I'll be changing that soon. The Nexus 6 can serve as decent temporary backup phone while you wait on another one if necessary for example insurance replacements, warranty exchanges, or a repair service being done on a newer device. I would not recommend buying one in 2020 as a daily driver tbh. But as an entertainment device it works fantastic!

    I'm watching this video on the Nexus 6 phone. It's Superior to my Samsung a50 (2019) for video and audio. Typing in this wide screen is a joy. Even though the Nexus 6 is 5.94 inches and my Samsung a50 is 6.4 inches, do to the aspect ratio that gives a wider screen, the phone's screen is much bigger. When you watch a video especially in vertical position you can see the video in a much larger size. Had I known, I would have gone for an even bigger phone that the 6.4 inch one I got! Because going from a nexus 6 screen to the Samsung A50 certainly felt like a huge DOWNGRADE! Even though I have replaced the battery, it just uses too much battery and if it has too many apps installed it starts lagging. I don't use it as my daily driver but I love this phone... And I do use it to watch RUclips videos from time to time. I have uninstalled any extra apps that I might not need.

    Still have mine. Motorola still makes parts/batteries. The screen on mine lasted 3 years before burn in claimed it. Bought a new panel and blows my pixel 2XL away in terms of colors. Definitely recommend a color changing Navbar or a custom ROM that uses gestures if you don't want burn in. Battery life and camera are pitiful but still decent. People have no idea what it is, but it seems to get compliments too.

      I've had mine for 4 years now, and both the nav and notification bars have burnt in, which I don't really mind too much, but the battery life is garbage. Never tried flashing a custom ROM or doing DIY parts replacements since I'm not the most tech savvy person, but if I can breathe new life into this phone to keep it going a little longer I'd very much like to.
      Any recommendations for custom ROMs? And were you able to replace the battery yourself, or did you send it in to Motorola?

    I have been using my Nexus 6 since 2015 haha... The only problem I've always be having is the battery life, even after replacing it, it's dying faster. I have a custom ROM and I still use it's 2MP front camera for selfies lol. This is one of my first legit phones i got ($280) and I can't seem to find any better contender. I hate these new aspect ratio phones and weird notches.
    i love the AMOLED screen and dual front speakers.
    Now I am the only person in my family who still doesn't have USB-c Phone and my Turbo charger died, even my port doesn't work unless i plug it in at a certain angle.
    Even with it's flaws, this phone is the phone that made me so excited to get one.
    Now I understand why our parents couldn't sell the car they got so many years ago, the emotional attachment.
    Eventually (This year) i'll get a new phone, but no phone excites me, I still look for the same features Nexus 6 has, Asus ROG 2 is alot like this and really good, so most probably i'll get that.
    I never wrote comments but as I see my Nexus 6 dying, i feel i'll leave this comment.
    idk, it's just a good phone, big screen, speakers, I even like its haptics lol, rear camera is great as I still do photography by this on my instagram, battery sucks ass, it gets hot, but i still love it.
    Your video made me happy, and I'm glad I got it in my recommendation. I wish Google Rename their Pixel A lineup to Nexus.
    Nexus 6 family, we cool.

    I'm still using my Nexus 6 in 2020 that I purchased in 2015 brand new on Amazon and don't plan on getting rid of it. I love the size and feel of the phone. In fact I purchased an OEM Motorola N6 battery on Ebay. This phone is like the Energizer bunny, it keeps going and going and going. It's still running Android 7 and I'm thinking of maybe dropping LineageOS 17.1 but I haven't decided as the phone still does what I want. The only phone I'm seriously considering is the P4a.

    Still using it. On my 2nd replacement screen and 1st replacement battery. No plans to stop. I am a "power user" and use this phone for work. I frequently have at least 3 messaging apps going, gmail, outlook, Ring central, salesforce and who knows what else running. It does fine. The dude in the video says you couldn't use this a daily driver? Yeah, ok kid...
    Wireless charging works great, not finicky. Headphone jack - use it every single day with my wired Jabra headset - I spend several hours a day on call with this phone. Quick charge works great.
    Anyway - yes of course there are better phones, but, this phone kicks butt - it did in 2014 and does now. It is FAR better than many new phones you can buy right now under $400.

    still have my nexus 6 with lineage 17.1 it has a snappy android 10 so upto date software wise , with either mega equaliser or viper you get a real loud stereo phone , also with the app color control you can tweak the screen to look great and for a 6 year old phone it still keeps going on.

      I have mine on 17.1 as well, but it's succumbed to a wireless charger. None of the ports work and the battery is going bad. Luckily I have a OnePlus 7 Pro as my daily driver.

  • @lth_lch
    @lth_lch 4 года назад

    Mine has served me well since 2015. The notification bar and navigation buttons have burned in pretty bad, the battery can't last half a day of use, let alone a full one, the screen has scratches, the paint on the metal frame is chipping, the plastic back is loose in places, the speakers make a chirping noise when the battery is below 50% and the device sometimes shuts off randomly when it gets anywhere below 40, it overheats easily, it stutters with even mildly demanding apps, the UI is ugly without a third-party launcher, the camera is average and clunky, and it's hard to get by on 32 gigs of non-expandable storage without relying on the cloud.
    There are other issues I can mention, but I love this phone despite its age. I think design-wise it looks as good, or better than a lot of phones that came out after it, and with a launcher or custom ROM and a battery replacement I can see myself still using it into 2020. That probably won't be the case, as I intend to replace it with either a OnePlus device or a ROG phone if they can manage to give it some water resistance, but I'll never sell my Nexus.

    Back in early 2017, I was looking for a low cost, feature packed replacement for a grossly overloaded budget phone... It had come to either this, or a Moto X Pure... Luckily, I was able to finance a new flagship (HTC 10) through a carrier... I would have probably chose the X Pure, as the NX5 looked too large...
