It blocks out the wavelengths in between the colors you can’t differentiate, so the colors contrast more. It’s not regular color vision, but it does actually let people see colors they haven’t seen before. The way I understand it, a colorblind person wearing the glasses will see colors exactly the same way as a non colorblind person would see while wearing the glasses

Dream and George going trough the colorblind test at first is like when my dads trying to help me with my math homework ;-; It ain’t my fault I suck at math...
But he can finally notice a difference and see brightness contrast, it makes the world a lot more vibrant and less confusing. He seems fairly pleased with it.
the thing is that George still cant see the colours we can see. its cause his eyes cant physically see red, purple, pink and green. (i think) hes just seeing darker of brighter variants of of the colour. (I was sad when i found out as well)

He can’t actually see new colors; the glasses help him distinguish between different colors easier.
However to him those colors are new you have to look at it from his perspective not our perspective.
