Novel ghatashradda was written in kannada by u r anantha murthy and was made into a film by Girish kasaravalli which received national award and international acclaim. In this a young widow is abandoned under a tree as a punishment for having an affair with a school teacher. Last rites are done when she is alive and healthy.
It is really interesting and worth watching to understand the condition of young Brahmin widows a century ago
This film is really catchy and informative.
Kamal Hasan has told that this film was one of those which made him question harsh rituals of Brahmin community on widows
