Looks brilliant, The colours you chose for the interior, are spot on. The xp has turned out really, really nice. I understand that you have to let her go … it’s the only way to fund the next project. Someone is going to cruise for miles with a big smile
Thanks Chris, appreciate the comment, i enjoyed this resto more than i thought, the body curves are just so unique and with that blue it just pops! cheers !
So far so good, glad you saved a very stylish old ute and it's looking great. Make the best of what you have is my moto because these things are just getting harder to find. Well done and I look forward to more of your crazy efforts in car resto's. It's helping me as well. Cheers mate.
Thanks for the awesome comment Jas! Absolutely they are, rarer by the day these old girls are getting, well, all of the cars from this Era as you know, plenty of more builds coming, and a very very rare car we just bought to restore coming soon! Glad I can help you in any way mate, even if it's just entertainment 😉 👍 cheers 🍻
Hi mate. Loving this series on the XP. I’m doing a resto on a CM Valiant so I’m really keen to see what you do with yours, and also how you tackle the rust (if it’s got any) and panel work. Keep up the great content mate - it’s a amazing resource for us DIY guys trying to work out how to do this stuff
Hi Lindsay, thanks for the comment mate. yeah cool as, what progression are you at on your CM? im excited to get into it myself! ill keep trying to relate my content to the everyday DIY kind of folks! cheers mate
Working through the body work atm. Taking panels off and getting the rust out and finding more! I’m trying to do as much of it with my mate and myself as possible but some of the bigger bodywork bits I have to get other guys to do. My aim was to get it done in a couple of years (only get to work on it some weekends and after work during the week) and got to do it on a budget too. But the challenge of that is the good part I reckon 👍🏻
@@Lindsay-ed2uj ahh yeah ok, yeah sucks when you remove stuff to only find more rust! best to get it all out though while you are going.. keep at it mate, more you do, the more you learn! im thinking of making a membership option on my youtube, ill post a beginners restoration course, rust repairs and basic metal shaping will be all part of it, plus a chat room that any member can ask for advice at any time, might be right down your alley? more details to come but in the meantime , keep at it mate, i would love to see pics!
I’d definitely be keen on the membership option mate. Also wanted to check what the polishing pads you used with the air tool were, and where to get them? That was a great hack you posted for polishing the chrome.
@Lindsay-ed2uj great! Yeah in the memberships section I'll be going in full details on all specific things, otherwise my normal videos will be like 3 hrs long haha.. it was a felt style pad, I got from my paint shop, there are other things you can use too, the membership option is probably about 3 weeks away from being ready. But will have heaps of tips, but all the detailed information 🤙
wheels.. hmm im not too sure yet honestly.. what ever i can afford! haha, i think i have a full set of Globes, but they need cleaning, same as 12 slotters.. but thats all i have
aaah donga life, in my donga watching this ha ha, bit late now obviously but for pieces like the grill, Vinegar is the bomb, let it sit over night comes out mint as. No such thigs as mistakes when ya learning, just steps to learning, I've made a lot of mistakes in my build. that dash and cluster look amazing. really looking so good.
Hey Animal! Thanks matey, yeah it's all part of the journey making mistakes, best way to learn haha, yeah I binge on youtube too when I'm away haha, cheers for the comment mate!
Mate that came up mint nice job on the gun , fellow spray painter ,the ute is looking mint mate ,I guess your must work in the mines ,happy days , cheers , shaneo nelson, nz, 🍺👍
Hey Shaneo! cheers mate! I am all self taught, i was a carpenter by trade actually haha.. not mines but yeah i am FIFO worker. just been working on cars most of my life as a hobby, just learnt a thing or two on the way. but i still learn something new every day!🍻
@@TwistedMetalCustoms awesome bud I was a industrial sandblaster and spray painter ,now just a commercial / interior /exterior painter much easier as we get older have had a few Holden v8s in my years ,now just a double ,cab early Hilux very reliable ,and a boat ,and ,yz450f death machine on dirt ,tell what is a fifo bud are you in queensland ? cheers , shaneo, 👍
@@shanedavies9564 yeah nice mate, i have a yz450f too haha 4 speed.. its a weapon.. fifo means fly in and fly out, i am a shift worker at an energy company, but am wanting to transition into car restorations, hence the youtube channel and content, i just love working on cars and the feeling when you can step back and see all the hard work come to a (hopefully) beautiful finished product, and i want to help others that are starting off on the same path in hobby restoration if i can
Thanks Reardo! not sure yet but i could have a go! There will be 1 more episode on this old girl before off to another home i think. ill get as much as i can done before then, ill probably only ask around 16-20k for it so i dont want to keep outlaying time and big $$$ on it, so i think the seat and tires will be well over 3k alone to get done.. so i might have to have a go at the steering wheel myself
hahaha .. i have to appeal to the US views too don't i??? ihad to use my mobile phone this episode, so that would have been just the front facing camera is all, my go pro is fixed now though! ready for the next episode
When you were speaking of the chrome you just reminded me of something that I heard about, that could actually work . small areas only , silver / chrome nail polish. Sets hard can be cleared over polished etc. All chrome paint is rubbish
It sold matey, pretty much on the last video, and sold the FJ45 cruiser at the same time, that's what helped fund the XW parts and skyline/silvia. Now,I do have another XM ute, really good starting point, rust free, I'm either going to sell it as is, or do a restoration on it too, looking for a project?? Haha
My first falcon (XL) I covered the dash with black fur (this was the days of Custom Vans and Trucks magazine, so forgive me) and sprayed the roof vinyl black, which took the spray really well! So if you spray the roof lining it shouldn't be an issue. Your interior looks just fantastic, hope it has bought you some real pleasure seeing the results mate. Hey Brett, haha you are forgiven! the door cards were painted black and took it very well, i actually have painted the hood lining but only 1 coat, so i didnt show it yet. it looks to be ok so far. appreciate your comment and words mate, yeah i was a challenge restoring this old beat up ute, but you are right, the results are the exact reason why we do this stuff isn't it, make all the effort worth while , thanks for the dash info mate, cheers

hmm not a bad idea Bruce, would be good for small tough ups? ill have to give that a go on something to trial it, thanks for the tip mate!
looks great, not every car has to be a show car, the ute is much more practical, not full of bog, just a good honest car anyone would b happy too own.
thanks jack, yeah i agree.. this is a build that anyone can achieve with effort, and drive on the daily to enjoy!
Great work mate just a bit of a tip you don't want a shiny dash on the top the clare will give you the shit,s cheers
hey Fred! that's actually a really good point mate, i didn't think of that.. Cheers!
