A vertical wind turbine would look awesome (and save space)
1) Get soda bottle, make turbine w/ many little vertical slits, bent outward. 2) Mount on wood scrap with bicycle spoke as axle for bottle to turn. 3) Find legacy hard disk drive that use magnets, open, remove disks, tap into voice coil (coil that moves arm back and forth over disk platters). 4. Attach reciprocating linkage from soda bottle to hard drive arm to have wind move arm back and forth, keep voice coil in high flux magnet housing. 5. Attach voice coil wires to FULL BRIDGE RECTIF-

I also built a slayer exciter some time ago. You can significantly increase the arc length by playing around with the number of primary turns.
I used a coil about half the size of the one you built, but a lot thinner wire. It's a great project to play around with, but you also need to be a little careful. I burnt my fingers countless times while grabbing or touching metal objects near the coil. It will wirelessly transfer its energy into you and everything near it.
I also got it to play simple music by interrupting the power supply at the note's frequency.
I love slayer exciters, they are really fun and not as dangerous (at least the smaller ones) as a normal Tesla coil.

Thank You for the video. Why does the coil have such large diameter? Won't the flux linkage be better if has lesser diameter. And also lesser amount for copper wire would be sufficient for same number of turns if the diameter was lesser right?

the dude you could do the same things with an old microwave transformer, a couple of nails for a spark gap, some capacitors, pvc pipe, and a lot of copper wire

Just be a little creative, you don't have to use those exact items to wind your own coil. You could use a drill and put together some assembly to hold it.
Hey, i suggest you to replace / use by smooth topload capacitor to force the charges to stay an accumulate on top , so increase the spark length ;)
I don't recommend to paint the pvc pipe of the secondary in black. Because the black paint is composite of carbon particle that is not a good electrical isolation and can result of internal short circuit between wire (especially if you plan to increase the power )
If you want to increase the performance , use Igbt transistor or bigger Mosfets in a bridge topology (or half bridge), use a interrupter with pulse width modulation. I suggest also to use the tesla coil calculator called JAVATC that is really helpful for desing the coil spec, calculate the coupling ...

To increase output power you can maybe use litz wire for primary coils since ~400kHz is a bit high frequency for using such thick cables as primary.

is it necessary for the coil to me made from a single wire ? I tried joining wires but the Tesla coil doesn't work. maybe because of the sharpness at the joining points
Normally, this shouldn't be a problem, as long as you don't change turn direction.
When joining the wires I reccommend making a western union style joint and soldering it, then putting a small amount of cyanoacrylate or other plastic based glue or varnish over them. Clear nail polish would also work good.

I couldn't get my teenagers interested in doing a mother / daughter project with me this summer - until they watched a few of the Q&A&Cs with me. Putting a face to the voice really broke through to them. It helps personalize the information and make it less intimidating.

A Tesla coil can't kill you because there's not enough amps, it'll just hurt really bad if you get shocked by it.

Dimitrije Krstić When you induce a voltage to a bigger coil (in this case the secondary coil) the voltage will increase. But more voltage with the same current as in the primary would mean more energy/Watt. You cannot create power out of nothing. So in order for the voltage to increase the current/amps must decrease.
Lets assume you have 12v 1A running through the primary coil. this means a total of 12v * 1A = 12W. Now lets say the induced voltage is 2000v. So if you had the same current it means that you have 2000v * 1A = 2000W and this would mean 1988W are created out of nothing. But because the induced voltage is higher, the current has to decrease. So if you would induce 2000v this means a ratio of 2000v / 12v =166.6. So the primary voltage is multiplied by 166.6 at the secondary but the current gets divided by 166.6. So you would have a maximum of around 1A / 166.6 =0.006A. And then your body has also a resistance. And because the high frequency the arcs won't jump into you but they will flow through your skin to ground because of the skin effect which will only lead to minor burn marks on where the arc has hit you. But you won't feel an electric shock because no electricity flows through your body. (I hope my english makes sense)

you can power it with the 230v ac or at low voltage dc. I recommend trying it at low voltage, the worst thing that could happen then is that it won't run.
I powered one with a 9v battery and even this worked slowly.
Keine Ahnung i tried to use 220 v ac (normal plug electricity ) it sparked and smoked (like electrobooms videos) have you got better suggestion? I also tried 19v 4a DC and worked really slow
