- The Scenic Railway Roller Coaster, known simply as the Scenic or Roller Coaster, is a wooden triple out-and-back scenic railway at Great Yarmouth The ride was built at the park in 1932 and has been operational ever since. It stands and operates as the only remaining ride of its kind in the UK; and one of only eight in the world. The ride is virtually unique as a 'brakeman' is required to ride with the train to control its speed as there are no brakes on the track. It is the second tallest and second fastest wooden roller coaster in the UK
went on it in the 60's, scared me to death as a kid
I've been on this coaster LOADS of times in years gone by.... A BIG thank you to the uploader...... You've brought back some fantastic memories for me. Even to this day, i still think it is the best wooden coaster i've rode by a country mile. To those not fortunate enough to have been on it, Head for norfolk & take the time to visit 'Botton Brothers Pleasure Beach'...... You WON'T regret it.... !!!!
This ride is legendary and since its twin at Barry Island is long demolished is now unique. The good news is coaster enthusiasts around the world will never let this one go the same way.
My folks (on Mum's side of the family) came from that area, so I went on this coaster many, many times in the 1960's! Back then, this was quite "White Knuckle" stuff. Yes, the 2nd drop is the largest by far. Most people probably expected the first to be the biggest. The second drop goes down into the scenery, with wooden beams whizzing past your head, and you can't see how deep it is. Great to see this is still running.
OMG, my Grandad used to take me on that roller coaster back in the 1970s! It was my favourite ride for years! :-)
Stunningarrayof, there is still a brakeman! He rides in the middle. This is such a lovely old roller coaster, i first went on with my mum and dad when i was 4. I still love it, me and my husband went on it yesterday.
I love it as you whizz past the snails ride... and a snail is going past ....
My favourite roller coaster ever; my Grandad used to take me on it every year when I was little. Back in the early 70s it was painted like a mountain range; I remember being really disappointed the year they painted it blue.
i agree,i went on it with my dad as a kid every year late 60's early 70's happy memories of great holidays.
i also felt sad when thet repainted it
For a wooden coaster, this ride is really smooth!
Yeah. The Wooden Coaster in Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach. It August that me and the Family are heading to. I'll be happy to go on it, And what I'll doing when I come here is to seach for the DDRMAX2 Dance Machine. But I'll still be happy to ride this babe. Good video.
I remember coming here on holiday when i was a kid and wanted so much to go on this coaster but i was to small, well i'm nearly 43 now and still have'nt bieng on it!!!. It still looks good to me
I got lock jaw just by looking at all that rust 😂
i loved going here when i woz a kid with me brother and sis. wicked times xx
I think this is my favourite roller coaster. It's so much more fun near the back though.

Been on this a few times 1989 then 2002 it very safe the way it was designed old fashioned but very good
2 August 2010
the best place to sit is at the back, it is more of a thrilling experience!
@ chardydude just like to say thanks and i am 33 and still think its one of the best Roller Coastersni have been on

I went on this it's incredible
You're right, they were exactly the same design.
I love yarmouth, but i went on the rollercoaster a few times coz my friend dared me to xD Im nto great with rollercoasters, but i look back at those times...it wasnt that bad :D
Been on this ride 13 times in a row and I didn't scream 1
I lived in Yarmouth for years. Apparently, during the second world war they had to dismantle part of it as it was considered too tall and too visible for enemy aircraft !
The answer, believe it or not is: Halfway along the train, there is a gap between the two coaster trains where a loon sits on a high stool operating the brakes !!
wish they had this in California...
Went on it yesterday :P
I went on tht yesterday it was sooooo fun me and my dads pic was really funny
im going to waxham sands near great yarmouth on saterday i always go on this when im there always think i am going to bang my head on thoses wooden sticks !!
a very tame ride for me but just as fun as others ive been on worth it tho
People said it was slow it was built in the early 70s!
Actually 1932.
+Ryan Harper Aaaaaaaaacually the 20's..... it used to be at an exebition in paris!
at yarmouth it is
been there i live in yarmouth
your welcome
# Welcome to the House of Fun... #
Yeah ive been on it 3 times and the second is the worst, you cant even see the track!
Grace Barrett I thought I was gonna hit my head
1:50 was that the bomber?
The ride used to have a brakeman riding along at the back who controlled the speed, anyone know when it was automated?
It isn't automated,
So they still have a brakeman then?
stunningarrayof Yes, it's in the middle
it is it goes sttraight down then up again
I love this wven thp its a bit bumpy but their new ride whirlwind is fun but on the last corner
It becomes very abrupt. My head was ride back like they said to do and the force of the turn made my head come forward then smashed back into the plastic cars. Very uncomfortable. If it was 2 tokens i wouldnt waste
it's been closed down
Its back up
Why was it closed? It's back now anyway
I would LOVE to see the pic's...... Any chance you could send them to my page (PLEASE) ???
I've been on all the rides except the evolution cus it looked so sickening
seems rather slow!!
Pleasure wood hills is better
Having a poo is more exciting
