- Foreign investors have frozen their participation in Russia's largest gas project. Chinese, Japanese and French companies are no longer going to take part in it. Initial investments in the Arctic LNG-2 project totalled $21bn. Its key goal is to increase the share of the Russian Federation in the global market of liquefied natural gas to one fifth by 2030. Liquified natural gas is a terribly expensive and delicate process. Russia's very long Artic pipelines and pump stations in Siberia when disused for some months in the frigid winter, will cause it to suffer internal fractures, expansion, etc. and thus cause permanent damage. The pipelines will then have to be rebuilt !
I think these pipelines have already cracked, at least those that fed nordstream.
Another problem is that those pipelines are running from areas where the resources are running out. Russia ofc have massive reserves but those are much harder and more expensive to extract from.
The last time they were damaged it took them 30 years to fix, and that was with help from NATO countries. They couldn't fix it on their own.
At this rate, there may not be a Russia in 30 years.

Well, since Mr Putin signed a bill authorizing the conscription of all the workers who maintain all of Russia's power/water/heating/gas infrastructure, into the Russian Army, he has effectively drained Russia of all the manpower to do maintenance work on said infrastructure, so if the gas pipelines fracture and break, that's it, Russia will lose it's gas reserves, forcing it's citizens to live in third-world conditions.
Why sanctions, AFU with the right tools could eliminate energy infrastructure.

As long as they're selling petrochemicals below cost, Russia should be allowed to do so, because that will also incur other costs (maintenance, salaries, etc) and drain Russia's economy faster. Cutting them off from certain markets completely will force them to not engage in the sunk cost fallacy, which is what we want them to do (throwing good money after bad, and in this case, removing their own natural resources.) Due to the brain drain Russia faced during Putin's rise, no one's left to tell him that selling petrochem below cost is not a better option than not selling at all.
its always nice to see new sanctions clamping down ... the US definitely is protecting and spreading freedom. You know ... i always disliked the US - but then came the war and the entire country displayed what it actually is all about; and i like it.
