  • ► Nissan bushing (one): amzn.to/2M6MM4F
    ► E-Clip snap ring: amzn.to/2M59oCy
► Aftermarket brass bushings with pin ($40): amzn.to/2vrUUTL
Replace the broken or missing bushings around the pin that holds your gear shift lever in place or install the shifter from a late 280ZX. 1982-83 non-turbo will have that type of gearshift.
The 280ZX shifter handle shown in the video can be sourced from used cars, parts cars, or sometimes in a wrecking yard. They are getting hard to find now so price and availability will change over the years.

THANK YOU...!! in 1972 my sister was teaching me how 2 drive a stick shift manuel on a COuntry road, she told me 2 change the gear which I then began to follow her instruction and gently without a sound it was free in my hand ( i wondered this doesnt seem right ) and in the same instant i held it before her eyes and said now what do I do?... the rest is history and all was just as fun!!

I'm not going to lie i was really hoping you'd assemble the shifter lever with brand new parts to show us how, but you basically showed us the parts and explained what they're supposed to do so I was able to figure them out thanks!

Thank you this video came in handy while working on my 1985 Nissan 720 pick up 4 x 4 I believe we have the same type of transmission or the same steps to take care of the same issue. Once again you came in very helpful and now I have a very good idea on how to proceed

Is there anything to watch for in terms of removing the center console?

Overall, the plastic is a bit weak and could be brittle. The center section around the ashtray has one side that is smaller and often breaks. If yours is not already broken, be very careful with removal. Keep support on both ends so that it doesn't break in the middle. When you have it all unbolted and start to pull out the console, you may suddenly realize how much weight the radio puts on one end.

Why would you put that old boot on,,

To block heat and air from below the car. The old boot is sturdy and would keep the upper boot clean and in good condition.
