The reason the gargoil was going absolutely wild with damage is because you took the item that gave a minion a 40% chance of permanently getting +1 attack every time their CD hit 0. The thing has CD 1. It was activating the item every single turn

I love this game but man, you having those rats late game + the ghouls + mummies + rot blacksmith was wrecking your build. For ascension 1 it was fine, but getting into the higher levels you'll need to be more consistent. Just making sure you were popping those burst worms with all the toxic dmg up you had would've made a much more destructive build. Also please take this as constructive feedback, as in how you could have scaled that build better for more difficult ascensions ✌️

range units seem to be the best so they can hit units no matter where they are
Yes but most ranged units are weaker with less synergy

Melee units are stronger, but much more at the mercy of rng
