I can't believe Carter immediately went full boomer during a segment on 'ok boomer'.
I feel bad for Ana, she wasn't even able to get her point across before the dude went full boomer. Like, boomers have been saying millenials are this, millenials are that, how we killed the car and housing industry, how we're avocado toast eating good for nothings. That we're all pie in the sky dreamers who never worked hard before. And that's the prevailing opinion on the main stream news. The "okay boomer" thing was a DIRECT response considering we never get a fair chance to defend ourselves on the main stream news.
When you've been insulted to your face over and over, and they won't listen to you. The ONLY thing you can say is "okay think whatever you want". Hence, "Okay boomer".

I'm 36 and I don't really agree with that dude. Well actually I don't agree with him at all. There is a 1.6 trillion student loan debt crisis that primarily affected people who are currently under 40 years old. That is a real problem. I'm not sure what youngsters he is referring to in this video. I don't really see that generation acting entitled. I see them drowning in debt and unable to buy a house.
This sums it up well enuf Uo0KjdDJr1c
The complaints this boomer says the younger generations have they also have subliminally, the majority of that group probably are not as well of as this guy but don't want to admit it. Why is Washington's approval rating so low amongst that group, why Trump the outsider if the direction they have been selecting has worked so well. Now Trump gives them bigger shovels full the stuff they hate Washington about mixed in with racisms and ineffective populism and they don't want to admit they are being duped once again by the Koch brothers media brainwashing they have been following for 30 years. Maybe 20% of that generation have money and like the direction big money Republicans have moved the country, 80% are angry and brought us Trump against the initial wishes the money people, but they have plenty of money to bribe Trump who was in it for the money anyways.

I’m a Millennial. I had Boomer parents telling me money doesn’t grow on trees, life isn’t fair, and the world will be filled with people who don’t care about me. They painted a fairly cold, bleak picture that filled me with fear. They’d tell me they loved me and I could talk with them about anything. Meanwhile, I didn’t really feel safe coming to them and talking about anything. My older brothers were repeatedly yelled at, pushed around, and hit by my dad because they weren’t behaving the way my parents wanted them to. I did, however, feel safe quietly vegging out as I watched TV, played video games, and surfed the net. I also learned to be very quiet and secretive to avoid disapproval from my parents. I’m about to turn 35, and I still feel like a teenager with no idea what I want to do with my life. I’ve had anxiety and depression all throughout my adulthood with no end in sight for either of them. I often don’t see a point in living and wish I could just go to sleep forever.
...but yeah, I’m a piece of shit because I want everyone to earn enough to cover basic costs of living, and to have access to healthcare (including mental healthcare) and education (K-12, plus college).
You just described most of are generations up bringing and current position in life.
I want everyone to make enough money to survive too. By getting a job and actually contributing to society. You should have listened to your parents when they told you that life’s hard but can be great if you have goals and work towards them. Instead you “vegged out.” Too bad.
Life’s not over yet and things can always turn around but you have to break free of your mold and you’re probably going to hate this part, but it’s going to hurt.
I’m not a robot. I have a job and I contribute to society through taxes. I wasn’t vegging out when my parents talked to me about adult life, so I can tell you that they talked about life being hard, but they didn’t talk about it being great if I have goals and work towards them. The closest they came to that was my dad telling me he always hoped that we’d find work we liked. Yeah, everyone wants that, but few actually succeed, if polls are any indication. My parents didn’t really have many talks about adulthood, they mostly vegged out (dad on TV, mom on books). They mostly left me to my own devices and crossed their fingers. I guess that explains why they were confused and disappointed that none of their sons turned out the way they hoped. You can’t just pray and hope god will steer your children into being carbon copies of you.
Hippies didn’t “realize it wouldn’t work”. They were strategically destroyed.
@Jason Jason "Thank God the hippies were destroyed. Otherwise their vision of living in harmony with nature, and reconnecting in small, supportive communities might have had a chance to develop past the grunge and dirt of its birthing ground and become a mindset that spread into science and politics thereby rendering our society more sustainable decades ago. Older, suburban Millennial here (34). I work hard and smart, go to a top school, pay my rent, have treated anxiety disorder, a child, wife who also works and still living paycheck to paycheck. I shouldn't be characterized as someone who "Wants free stuff". I am objective when it comes to a sense of equity and when i talk to my parents, they 100% understand the systemic failures that led to me becoming this overworked, underpaid "indentured servant". We just want equity and we don't have it. Stuck in forever school debt, costs of healthcare, low wages, rising costs on goods is just something the older generation was way less likely to experience as i cite the wealth gap over time. A lot of older Americans had the opportunity to live the "American dream nuclear family" where as we are shamed for not overcoming massive debt. If the older generations had the experiences we have now, they would understand. Let's not focus on labels and instead explain the data that show the inequalities due to the brolen system and define what empathy is through the scope of "The American Dream".

Born in the late 60s, I guess I might be Gen VW. Haha. But since mid 2001, I've been unemployed or underemployed, though I have a 4-year college degree, which employers couldn't care less. I don't have a big student loan payback compared to others, but I cannot afford a new out-of-the-factory car, or an entry level home. If billionaires are like the oceans, the working poor are shallow puddles after a short rain. The American dream was more like snake oil, and I won't have much to retire on in less than 15 years from now. Thanks Uncle Sam. Thanks Wall Street. Thanks Boomers. For Nothing.
I'm 70 years old and have children that were born during the time considered millennial. What Beck said only applies to a very small minority of millennial generation. Most are hard working. First of all, their Generation does not have nowhere near the opportunities that FDR Dems setup for Boomers. During the fifties one person employed could support a middle-class family, two can't do it now. So difficult for their generation to be financially successful. The destruction of the middle-class is the cause, not them. The country moved to the right under Regan and destroyed the good jobs and unions. So it is not the millennia generation fault, it is ours and ours alone. Elect Bernie and join their revolution, all of us, young and old. The take over of our government by special interest has purposely created an economy where two people working can't survive. Most of the youth can't afford their own apartments, they need roommate's. My generation needs to really be involved with the youth and see how difficult it is for them financially. Most of my generation had grants for college, not loans for ten's of thousands. Like the song says, " worth ever treasure on earth to be young at heart".

Most of us had to join the military just to have any hope of getting money for school or to get away from dysfunctional homes etc. Anything we wanted to be was only possible for kids whose parents had money and many of our generation became parents at 14-16 years old due to lack of sex education and the fact we often came home to an empty house because both parents were working and couldn't afford childcare after school (the latch key kids)...so we had a lot of time alone and bored and that meant more time for other things. Because of that, most of us couldn't get a higher education after High School because we were busy raising our kids and trying to make ends meet while trying to be home when they got home cause we remembered how important it was. etc. etc.
The only Boomers I have ever found to totally get why the generations after them are so disenchanted and even angry are the ones who were teens and young adults in the 60s and early 70s who participated in anti-war marches and railed against the establishment. They were judged by their own generation in the same way as the younger generations were and are.
There's a common thread there about knowing that the utopia we were sold is a lie but it's not because better isn't possible...instead, we know that there are forces blocking the construction of a better world and they simply don't like being called out on it. Nor do those who have fully bought into the system like being reminded that they have struggled needlessly and wasted so many years in a life that could have been so much more rewarding...not to mention the jealousy that arises when they think that we might be able to make that better world a reality for ourselves and so they try and talk us down so we don't try.
It's screwed up...but I honestly think that's what it boils down to in the end.
Boomer generation college education expense: 20-50k for a bachelors

It is a fact that these young people have to work twice as hard for half as much.
1984, I was making $15 an hour and a nice new home (not a big home) was $54,000.
2019, Millennials are making $15 an hour (if they are lucky) and a new home is $250,000 to $350,000.
This is the real issue everyone is ignoring.
Thank you for seeing this
$15 in 1984 had the purchasing power of roughly $36.25 today. In today’s terms you were being paid $36.25 an hour. That’s unfathomable to young people today, most of which are definitely not getting paid $15 an hour even in today’s terms.
Im not understanding why it's entitled to presume that everyone is equal and has a right to basic necessities like food and shelter and healthcare. it's more delusional to think you have the right to hoard things away from people and essentially sentence them to death because you are somehow better than them.
What are yall talking about its just a phrase
@@alaynahoward7256 it's a word with the definition. Not just a phrase. Words have meaning. Phrases have a meaning.
It's because no one is entitled to anything. People should appreciate all the opportunities given to them not expect it, that is the point they are making in the video.
@@samanthatucker7796 Iwe are all entitled to the Universal Human Rights established by the UN (which includes America), Those rights include acess to water, food, health and healthcare.... previous generations suffered for knowledge and technology to be developed on the understanding that the gains belong to all future humans. We have the technology and ability to feed and clothe and shelter and provide healthcare for all of us. We only dont do it because money and power. That is a gross violation of all the suffering of previous generations.
honestly, boomers have to be the most entitled people I've ever met. they think we can't know better, simply due to our youth. we want to make things better, and aren't afraid to speak up when we know something isn't right. to anyone who calls us lazy:we work hard, and get nothing, and we're tired of it.

I think the point is that the utopia that millennials strive for is the exact same economic utopia that DID exist for boomers

@Modern Savage25 The boomer generation call younger people less than them. They call them snowflakes and that they aren't built as strong as they were in their day. You criticize that they should take charge, get over it, overcome their struggles. Don't forget they should "stop taking everything so seriously" and "learn to take a joke". Yet, here you sit, butt bothered about a phrase so much you comment at least 10 times on this video. You are the reason this phrase is being rebranded.
Boomers were every bit as entitled as millennials. Every damn bit. And boomers had it FAR better than the depression generation. Talk about entitlement.
I disagree you don't know the pain of a rotary phone, $500 calculators, 13 channels, and honestly everything has gotten so much better than the 50s and 60s....not sure what planet your on but life is much much easier now than it was.
