So far, if I look for tutorials on RUclips about music mixing and mastering, most of the explanations are not correct. But this channel is very helpful
Badass, that's what I was asking you for! Indeed it's like music theory, one tend to overlook the fact that there's a whole diatonic scale in every octave of the spectrum, once you find the octave you can use the 3rd and 5th as guides too although often enough Ive found voices hovering around the 4th on major songs 😃👍
Number 2 is the real secret, no doubt. I use Softube eq mp and I select linear phase option on it instead of dynamic one, sometimes I use Fabfilter eq3, if I cut more than boosting, can I change zero latency to minimum or other linear options? Because I use pro Q3 as subtracting eq and after mastering compressor and saturation, I use additive eq for shaping my mix, as you said, I do it before limiting.
Dear Sage audio, have you ever used Waves factory Spectre, if not, this is additive eq but with 10 models of saturation, I mean before boosting, you have to select one of them as tube tape warm rectify bit crusher and etc. I'm a new fan of this plugin and I don't have significant experience to show the others, but I'm sure that you will kill it 😂 I think that this plugin can solve all the problems of mix and the oversampling option on the left bottom of this plugin is very useful, Anyways, really tnx for your working hard and sharing your experiences with us. Regards.
Mastering is not a secret. Nore do ME’s care if you know every “secret”. It takes many years of training and a really good environment(good monitoring and a controlled room) to even start. Too many think it’s all secrets when it’s just eq,compression and limiting. Knowing when and why to do all of the above is the secret. That my friend takes time. Keep practicing and you will get there
Hey Kambiz! Thanks for watching this one! The Eqing you're doing sounds like it would work well! Natural phase or Linear options should work well too. Also, we'll have to check out Spectre! It sounds pretty awesome, somewhat similar to Saturn but I'll look into! Thanks for your suggestions! SageAudio.com
Pls upload more videos about mastering techniques ect, it's so incredibly helpful and this is the best channel about this topic i've found yet. What also would be super interesting video is a start to finish mastering video without any cuts. You could also provide a link for the song/stems in the description so that us viewers could follow your steps along, with similar plugins ect.
Again a very good video. Thanks a lot for this! Could you produce a video in which you show how you can create a mono track in stereo and overall surround sound in the Q3.
Hey Mario! Thanks for watching and making a suggestion! We don't have any videos on surround sound, but in the meantime we do have one on stereo imaging I'd reccomend! SageAudio.com
@@sageaudio Of course! Is there anything else about it that I should know? I tried it out and it made a noticeable difference, it was just more in-my-face. But any specific Q values or dB values that work well? Or how should I find tune it myself?
Thanks, that last one makes so much sense !!!!!! thanks thanks Also, i didn´t get , how do you find wich frequency are you tuning with Saturn? that trick looks sick
I have a suggestion. When you are explaining a particular mastering processing in random, it would really help if you could also suggest where in the FX chain would that processing best fit into. For eg. in this video you suggested that we can boost frequencies which are in the key of the song. Where would you suggest we place this eq boost in the chain. would it help if we did it before the saturation or after? Before the Mid side eqing of the low end eq? Thank you.
Thanks for watching this one and for your suggestion! That makes a lot of sense - we have some videos about chains in which that's discussed, but it couldn't hurt to include that info in other videos. SageAudio.com
If you're not already an Educator in some other capacity you should be.. calm insightful explanation of all topics without ever sounding like you're patronizing the listener. An extreme example of EQ'ing with respect to key but it really served to illustrate the point. Harmonic distortion as EQ was also a nice angle on a common theme. 👏🎵 🎶
If I play a baritone guitar in Drop A and the tuning is also A, so the fundamental frequency will be somewhere below 60 hz, should I cut it or boost? And how did you decide which octaves should be boosted/attenuated?
Thanks for watching T R A E A R M A N D! Just keep dividing by 2 or multiplying by 2 and you get your other A notes! Glad you liked the video! SageAudio.com
I have left a few comments about the appropriate subject of this video , but sorry I always make you feel tired of my questions, please don't hate me 😊 Have you ever worked with Kush audio plugins? If you have ,as always may you share your precious experiences with us generously? Tnx alot. Sincerely
Hey Kambiz! No worries we don't lol! We'll have to check out Kush plugins as well. I remember looking into them, but haven't tried one yet. I'll take a better look at what they have to offer. Thanks as always! SageAudio.com
Hey Ces! We used automatic gain adjustment and made smaller changes, so it might be difficult to hear. Maybe try the effect with other forms of processing! Thanks for watching! SageAudio.com
thanks a lot unfoutunatly for me my kliptch headset does not let me hear the difference i guess if you guys exagrate what ever you tweak more wil pin point better at what to listen to because your moves are very subtle i really cant hear the difference but any way im learning a lot i really appressiate your videos

Well, all 3 are good, but I already know it... everyone talks about number 2, but if you really want to sound great, prove the 1... Try to define the tone with sat before even touch any eq, you will.surprise
Hey Zech! @Theo and @troeteimarch both make good points! It sounds like you might be distorting the signal if you're mastering is making things too harsh. Also, sometimes ess sounds/vocal sibilance sounds alright in a mix, but when pushed to louder levels can become really harsh and unpleasant. I'd say first check if your vocal sibilance is too loud and if so use a de-esser in your mix. Then be sure that you aren't hitting your limiter too hard, and use a slightly longer release time(100ms+) to avoid distortion. SageAudio.com
As a mixing engineer I love your videos, but as a musician my eyes almost popped out of my head when you said "The key of A# major." There is no such key to musicians. It's an enharmonic spelling of the common key of Bb major, which has two flats. A# major has TEN sharps, including three double sharps. A# B# C## D# E# F## G##. I'm pretty sure that no song has ever been written in that key, unless it was written by a sadomasochist. 🤣
Following the song key when equalizating adds a natural definition to track. Thank you for video
Thanks for watching Dany! You're right! It's subtle but these things add up!

Mixing according to the key just makes life easier. Tucking resonant frequencies in becomes easy when you know the key and the progression

Really surprising to me. Key of A# does not have an F. It has an E#. You're talking about the Key of Bb.
Thanks for watching Douglas! Unfortunately my music theory isn't the best - thanks for letting me know!

This is pedantic and needless in this context. They are the enharmonic and the same pitch, which is what an equalizer applies to.
@@joemarta8221 It's not pedantic, imho, it's confusing for those of us who got their music theory down.

I see your high end is to low, why?
Why does my master track always sound so harsh at loud volumes my mixes are clean but the master turns out so rough??
give it some warmth / harmonics. harshness can occur when overcompressing. tape, tubes and transformers are the key
You might be running it too hot into the limiter. They tend to add brightness and reduce lows when pushed
