    Very useful, although the older Maglites have a flat switch retaining screw plate which has to be removed from the front of the torch with thin nosed pliers, and the switch assembly has to be pushed out of the front from the rear. However the allen key/grub screw is still the same, so I was able to remove the switch and clean out the leaked battery corrosion.

    Thanks Mate. I had already given up on my torch. Now it's shining bright again.
    The hex key/allen tool/... is a 2 mm one.

    You can't go wrong with a Maglite 3-D. I have one that is over 20 years old. There are a few differences with it: The switch has a more robust click to it, there is more knurling on the tube and the thickness of the aluminium is a little beefier =)

      rompn4x i have a 4 c cell from 1994 and it was 100 percent origonal and worked great even tho it was beat to shit but then i got sick of no brightness ao i ripped apart the switch and made it bright as all crap. then i got sick of my chineseum parts blowing up so i put all the old parts in the switch. i had to replace the reflector cuz it was completely faded.

    Very helpful! Thank you. I'd never taken a Maglite apart before. Had to clean off some corrosion from the metal contacts. Both parts of your vid came in handy. :-)

    Hi and thanks for the comment. the allen key size is a 2mm or a 5/64. 2mm is a better fit but either one works. cheers!

    thank you so much for this post ,i brought a friend of mine a mag 2 cell and the switch has stopped working , we we wondering how to fit the problem , can i order just the switch from mag light ? and you said in your vid that the torch was $74 ,here at wall mart the led 2 cell around $30 us

    My question is if the switch seems to be operating, can it still be the reason the light doesn't work? I'd replace the switch IF I felt the switch was the culprit.

    2:20 this only work if your tube is in great conditions inside, if batteries have leaked and it's oxidated it will not slide that easily, maybe not at all.

    TILZ4U. Thank you for your comment. In answer to your question the only thing required to convert a standard D-Cell into a L.E.D is the l.e.d modual available from M@glite other than that they are identical. I recomend the genuine m@glite bulb as it is 3watt. NiteIze make a bulb but it is only 1watt so it's not as good, although the genuine m@glite one is more expensive costing about $60Au. Thanks

    What size allen key were you using? Mine somehow doesn't come out at all.

    Hello, could you please tell me what size allen wrench to use on the maglite because I just bought a set and none of them fit.

  • @jorgealfaro4637
    @jorgealfaro4637 11 лет назад +1

    what is the size of the allen tool used to remove the switch, since 3/32 wont fit and 5/64 is to thin. Using metric 2 or 2,5 wont work either. Thanks for the help

      I think later models like yours use the Torque heads (Star). My one which I bought recently also uses the Torque screw. You can use a flat head screwdriver but it's risky as you could mess up the screw making it impossible to open.

    maglte has never marked that the c or d cell flashlight is waterproof. Only that they where water resistant. and they are very water resisting. I know that from experience with my own 4D-cell. nice video, but only 4/5 because of that error.

    Hi and im glad my videos helped. As i am in Australia M@gLites cost substantially more over here and i purchased mine in back in 2005 before the L.E.D variant was released.
    As for ordering a new switch i am pritty sure you can order direct from maglite so i would call 800 289-6241 during business hours and order one, but as im in australia i am not sure about any other way of getting your hands on parts. best regards.

    I stopped watching after the little wrench thing. The most important point. The little wrench. Can't go ahead from there
    What size wrench? Allen? Didn't work. Torx, star?
    Too bad, it could have been a good presentation...

    • @chickensfloat7427
      @chickensfloat7427 7 лет назад +1

      the older lights use the allen key but if you light is newer than 2001 it used torx. u can tell by looking at the serial number if there is a D in it is newer than 2001 it uses torx amd a lot of torx dont fit unless u grind down the sides of the shaft. you can also email the serial numner to magloght and ask them the exact day your light was manufactured. i found out that my 1 $ used maglight was made on october 16 1994

      @@chickensfloat7427 Cheers mate, I was using a flathead screwdriver to feel around if it was Allen Key or Torque. You can tell if it's torque because a flat head screwdriver can turn a Torque screw. Very annoying though because I have many Torque screwdrivers yet none of them can squeeze through to the bottom.
