I remember your Dad well, he was still occasionally in uniform when I first started, but he was away a lot, so didn't make it out every week.... He was always very friendly, and obviously loved his beagling......
Pennine Lad - I watched this again today - with the news about Jack, and then you commented! I was showing my son - Clark (who is named for my Dad) that his Grandpop has met Jack. Thanks for your comment xxx
fantastic only had course fishing growing up as a city boy loved going to the countryside with my dad now i've been involved in fieldsports for some years absolutely love it but watching these videos I realise how much freedom country sports has lost
Lovely film. I am sorry I never got to try this sport before it was destroyed. I always thought I would get round to it another year. Enjoy the countryside while you can. You don't know what they will come for next.
Great video brings back memories for me as a young lad I was brought up in great linford wich is now swallowed up by miltonkeynes I remember geff a man from Yorkshire who used to lodge with Mr and Mrs dix in the village he was whipper in with the hounds in the late 60s he must have been in his 20s then left when the city started the hounds went it's all houses around here now I often wonder if he's still around only memories now .
Reminds me of my beagling days. But these guys did it properly. We had a pack for a few years but sadly my father gave it up and the pack was absorbed into the Staffordshire Beagles. Lovely animals and quite different from the show beagles and most pet beagles that I see around. Great hunters, enormous stamina, lean and full of life.
Fantastic remember this series brings back such great memories,I used to run with the Wye Collage Beagles kennel huntsman was a great character name of William Catt. The Whipper ins were students from the college most times Puss yous to run rings around us, but then the whole object was the chase the kill when it did happen was mainly because the Hare was old or sickly. What Halcyon days they were
been involved in field sports since I was 12 now 73. I'm afraid the townies don't understand and never will they have become totally detached from the land and countryside and think all meat comes in a plastic bag. when they see a field they see mud. we see a landscape that was walked by our forefathers they have no empathy with nature and you waste your time trying to educate them their souls are dead and lost. I pity them they will never know the feeling of being so close the earth that it makes you want to cry and makes your soul ache. Deepest respect to all my fellow shooters hunters fishers etc. & to many to name respect!!
A lovely series. Gone are those olde days. It would have been good to see Jack with some working men and couple of lurchers on the hares too, to get a wider demographic and a fuller hare hunting representation, no credit taken away though.
hare never had a chance when i was a kid in the early 80s+ we used to hunt /course with 1 or 2 lurcher dogs and a terrier. and if i say if we caught a rabbit or hare it wouldt get ragged of 30 dogs . we would eat it and appreciate it
Shame the Blair goverment banned this way of life, who looks after the hares now, not the modern farmer. It’s a shame people don,t understand hunting like this and conservation go hand in hand. Don,t see the anti,s crying for the loss of habitat and hare population, these people always did.
20 dog's that can't out run a healthy hare and catch it. Much better than 1 dogs that can catch nearly any hare. Another clueless comment for a person who as no idea. The hunting ban killed more hare's than any pack of dogs in history and I bet you voted for it? So your responsible for the death of more healthy hare's than this small pack in it's entire history. These are the facts.
Have you watched this vid? have you not taken in any info from it ?take the ear plugs out and the blinkers off. 20 hounds that cant catch the hare. against two grey hounds that can. Do your sums what's the best bet for the hare?. The fact you call them dogs shows me you are a ignorant townie
alan roberts .......That’s as mebee, but tha kno’s t’hounds only kill those es sick, lame n lazy, leaving t’best fer breedin’. If t’hounds don’t get ‘em, buzzard or fox will, mother nature’s a cruel bitch as thee well knows or does thee?
alan roberts your silly attitude brought about the UK hunting ban. The hunting ban caused the death of more healthy hare's than this pack in it's entire history. So you are more barbaric than any of the animals or people in this video. Your responsible for the deaths of millions of healthy here's.
Thanks for this my dad is a whipper in on this video, he's passed now but at the end he's singing in the pub and it's a lovely reminder
It will be nice for you to watch your DAD doing what he obviously loved doing 👍👍👍

I wish them days would come back
Sad to hear of the passing of Big Jack. A great man in all respects, much admired. RIP Jack.
Blinding program before the world went to anti anything animal hunting wise. Thank you for posting.

Kept beagles as pets when I was a kid. They are tough little beggars and as stubborn as they come! What a great film, too. Thank you.
the stamina of them hounds is remarkable they most have been running non-stop for about 6 hours I have done this hunting it brings back memories.

I am the same, never tried it but can't now.
It lives on! Contact the BHSA and they will put you in touch with a local hunt
Fantastic the true English countryside as it once was.

Love this brings back lovely memories
Thanks to the farmers who continue to support our packs. Allow us to hunt legally and move their sheep so we can enjoy our sport.
There is something deeply contagious about canine enthusiasm. They are so obviously enjoying themselves..
A fitting tribute to a great allrounder
Great tv series, it's a pity you can't get them on DVD
Class to watch really enjoyed that
Excellent-no see that for years👍🏻
Good old days gone forever 😢😅
This is a great video but good gosh I would hate having to keep up with that many dogs at once.

Contact the hunt I'm sure they will tell you 😊 Good luck 👍
They don't have much chance against the world's greatest athlete 😆
things aint changing for the better like the country the countryside is being decided by people with no life experience so sad
not bad for dogs that smoked ciggies lol
Shame the Blair goverment banned this way of life, who looks after the hares now, not the modern farmer.
