It's amazing how she's basically producing an entire show from her van and on the road with no production company supporting her. No orders to Starbucks while editors work on the footage. Or the host films then goes to his hotel. She's ACTUALLY doing it, then showing us and it looks very, very good. As a person who enjoys film making, I have to say, kudos :) I can't imagine editing while on road. All hot. Lol. I'm so friggin proud of you friend

I also don't normally eat freeze dried meals, but I picked up a Mountain House Thai Style Chicken (I think it was) out of the Hiker Buckets at Red's Meadow. It was warm was the only good thing I have to say about it. I've had a few other free dehydrated meals, and the only one I have anything good to say about was some Lasagne that reminded me of spaghettios. I think that might be called damning with faint praise.

To be honest I get a bit bored with videos exclusively about vans, yours combine, real camping, hiking, backpacking and a van which is a lot more exciting. Hope you made a wish on your birthday and everything comes true. Lots of Lodge Pole Pines but you can see the dead trees many dead due to the drought and Bark Beetle, watch out for widow makers when setting the tent specially with the rains.

That’s kinda a bummer that it doesn’t seem as fun and adventurous as the guy on front of that pineapple chicken pack but it’s these hard times that you push through that you will look back on and be the proudest of yourself. Plus you inspire a bunch of us to push ourselves harder to accomplish our goals. I really enjoyed watching 🤙
Whether or not you get to do it on your birthday, it is incredible what you are doing and to spend you last days of your 20s and the beginning of your 30s is such a great thing to look back on!!
Maddie,I can see you really edit this footage much to the viewers delight..and its not just random..wow is all I got and thank..hypothermia above freezing is directly resulted to dehydration..I about almost died on Mt Washington here in NH was in running shoes & t shirt , weather changes as I saw ice crystals firm in front of me in hail n rain..elevation really makes it happen quite quicker..it's funny how we conceptualize sometimes unreasonable goals then get tough on ourselves with self defeating emotions. You can go easy on yourself..from this point of view I see younger female, alone, in van, delivering food in strange cities, isolated, working your butt off, driving hundreds of miles a week, living on a tight budget, living a life out of the realm of most ppls imagination, major exercise adventures, still smiling and filming all this being able to be vulnerable and humble..I'll stop...I know this is not in real time..and definitely treat yourself and your integrity and value you possess is more than most..this oath you have chosen I see as a viewer and internet friend makes me feel very lucky and inspired just to view you and message occasionally..soooo..enough of that .you are YOU..we are all better that you are..💚😃

Thank you! I’ve done like 22 miles in a day on other trails, so 17 felt low in the moment, but this is the toughest elevation gain/loss and terrain that I’ve ever done so I have to keep that in mind!
Thank you for your videos! So inspirational! I started solo backpacking in 2021 and when I'm on the trail, I love it. However, I have a hard time with boredom at camp. After everything is set up and I've eaten, there's usually a few hours at camp before I sleep. What did you do during your downtime and how did you stave off boredom?
It’s probably not very exciting, but if I have extra time, I look at the map and plan or day dream, like “I could hike to here tomorrow, and then here, and then here…” Sometimes I edit videos on my phone, but you have to be careful about using up your battery. I had a friend that carried lightweight fishing gear on the JMT, as another idea for ya!
Geez, I was only a few miles from Devil’s Postpile when you were there. If I had known, I would have brought you a fresh salad or two with your favorite dressing. 😃 Maybe next time.

Just finishing your documentary. I can definitely relate to the ups and downs. My hike started July 24, 2022 from Devils Postpile SOBO. I have already hiked from happy Isles to Mammoth in previous years. I had a miserable night on top of Muir Pass, I felt it was getting too late and the weather looked too ugly to continue so I over-nighted inside the hut, everything got soaked, it was so cold, I think it was the closest I’ve felt to getting hypothermia. Eventually my woolie base layer and other layers started doing their thing and I warmed up and fell asleep, even though I was fairly wet. There is nothing at all wrong with making a goal for 20 mile days, just like there’s nothing wrong with taking your time and hiking only a few miles a day. I think the trick is being able to adjust on the fly to what your body and mind tell you you’re capable of. I’m 56 and found I really had to adjust. I did do some 17- 20 mile days and they were awesome. But at that altitude, and probably at my age, I found that brain fog really sets in, and I started catching myself doing really stupid things, like leaving important gear behind at a stop, taking unnecessary risks, boulder hopping across a water crossing and falling right on my ass in the creek, when I should’ve just walked across in crocs. I wouldn’t change a thing though, and I learned a whole lot, and I hope to do it again next summer.
